This team is starting to come together, could be a special group. They come across to me as being very focused on winning and being successful. Lots of guys with something to prove is always a plus.

It seems fairly unanimous that we have worries about our D, but we're bringing some excellent skating young Dmen.

This could be a coming out party for guys like Tanev and Rielly. I know our D is younger and not as heralded as last year, but I'm excited to see how they do. Their skating ability top to bottom is among the best at this tourney. Experience is a concern though.

Our forwards should absolutely dominate on the big ice. If things come together and the lines develop chemistry early, I can see our forwards attacking 4 lines deep wave after wave. They'll be very difficult to deal with for opposing teams.

Perry (former Hart Trophy winner) discussing McDavid:

“Oh my god. In person, he’s even better to watch. The goal he scored the other night, in the exhibition game, he took two steps and he was by the defenseman and on a breakaway. You can’t teach that kind of stuff. It’s going to be pretty fun. It’s going to be interesting to see what he can do in this tournament. We’ve got a lot of faith in him. He’s a star already in the NHL, and there’s just more things to come.”

I'm thinking between 20-25 points is a legit possibility for Connor McDavid at this tournament.

I think expectations should be tempered just a bit myself.

Great player, not sure about 20-25 pts though.

We will roll 4 lines pretty evenly methinks and we will face some good teams.

Even rolling 4 lines, he could have 12-15ish points against Hungary, Belarus, Germany, and France alone.

He'll leave the tournament with Euro fans saying "that's the most talented hockey player I've ever seen". Seeing it live is something else, he'll electrify the building.

This is Connor McDavids intro to European hockey fans at the mens level wearing the Maple Leaf, he's going to be unquestionably the best player on the ice every time he steps out there.

Must see TV.

Lol @ 20-25 points.

Crosby had 16 and 11 in the WCs he played in. The 16 point one was after his rookie season.

I'd say McDavid could match Crosby but he's not scoring 25 ****ing points give me a break lmao.

another person to add to my ignore list!

Could happen doesn't mean will happen.

That's the same verse we hear every year. Remember 2012 Oh my God! Benn Getzlaf and Perry. This line will kill it over there...

special, focused and committed groups are few and far between. Ultimately we are 2 defenseman short...

1/4 final game, and depending on the matchup, this team may not go any further than that.

To the bold--it's not ideal.

A lot of these guys are playing for positions on the 2016 World Cup team. Duchene and Perry immediately come to mind. Don't kid yourself, they're motivated.

If things click, I think our forward lines will be very difficult to deal with. 4 deep. Wave after wave.

If Rielly and Tanev step up to the plate, defending the Gold is certainly in the realm of possibility.

I remember Getzlaf saying that as well in 2012. "We are Canada, we are only here for the Gold"...that was right before the trio (+ Benn and Perry) were about to head out to the bar on an all night bender.

So, what players say to the media is all gobbledygook... meaningless drivel. I'm not interested in what they say to TSN for public consumption, I'm interested in what they do.

Fair enough. It could be rehearsed drivel and not sincere what Perry, McDavid, and Duchene have said, I guess.

I think McDavid is that good that he can carry this team to Gold. Response?

He's sublime... but if Wayne Gretzky couldn't do it in '82 (deliver gold) then McDavid has a huge challenge in front of him.

The '82 tournament is not something I remember, I was too young to be following international hockey at that time. My first recollection of international hockey is the '84 Canada Cup. So, I have no idea on how to make a comparison on what the tournament is now compared to what it was then.

Gretsky '82 tournament 10 games 6 goals 8 assists. 14 pts.

There's no doubt in my mind McDavid's only motivation is to win hockey games. I'll never doubt his motivation. I think I told you the story of when he was 12 and pissed at his teammates because they were talking xbox on the bench during a game and not focused on winning the game. McDavid is one focused individual...but it's the others I question.

If I'm wrong, I'll take the appropriate crow.

I think 97 is going to dominate this tournament in a way that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. That would be pure hyperbole if I was talking about anyone other than McDavid.

This is his introduction to European audiences at the mens level. Remember the U18s during his 15 year old season? (rhetorical, of course :)).

You've seen 97 live more than me, I know that you know he's going to own this tournament. Connor McDavid will be the talk of Europe. It's something else to see it live, I wish I was there.

TV will have to do. Do we really have to wait 3 more hours?

Seen that. Yeah of course I remember us chatting about that, another reason why I just have faith man. I know you love playing Devils Advocate, but tell me you don't think he's the type of player who can pull off heroics here.

Seen him play over 70 games now from Junior, Team Canada, to the Oilers. I've never seen anyone like him. He can take over games on this big ice and he will.

I can't wait, we all benefit from him playing. The entire hockey world, not just Canadians. He's so unbelievably special, I've never seen anyone like him.

I am excited to see what the European fans think of him.

Can someone help me to find lineups ? What page could or should I use in this event ? If there would be a pp & pk lines that would be awesome.

Very excited here, for the opportunity to watch him at normal hours, Edmonton and most NHL games are in the middle of the night for me.
