Treveling must never work with the Canadian national team.
He failed to work on the selection of players.
Jimmy O'Neill better formed roster last year/
Pathetic really! Only two teams at this tournament will have anything close to A squads - Russia and Finland. A two team tourney really. Perhaps a 4 out of seven between those squads would have been more entertaining and competitive

So much for hoping to pick up an impact guy on defense.

It won't be easy defending gold with the group we have assembled here, not impossible, but very hard.

Jesus. This is pitiful.
It is amazing that someone like Perry signed on so late, perhaps even knowing that Hockey Canada was failing so miserably at securing the back end. I guess he just wants to experience Petersburg in all its glory.

It must be disappointing for him and the other guys who signed on up front.

I just hope that the defenders and forwards who refused don't get a sniff when it comes to World Cup competition. What the hell happened to Ekblad? The guy is 20 for God's sake! He should be able to string 10 tournaments together. I know he was named already to the under 23 team but give me a break. The others I have already mentioned.

On another note, the World Championship IIHF site is pointing out that only Canadian players have a chance at the triple gold club this year. As of today they were still hopeful for players like Doughty. I guess they have not gotten the memo from Hockey Canada that guys like him are currently doing a wine tour and not particularly interested in their little club.

Why do many (presumably) Russian posters take the time to post videos of missed penalty calls in the 1987 Canada Cup, a tournament in which they were apparently...disinterested?

*****ing about calls, or more likely the lack thereof, would be a sign of anger, not disinterest. I've seen Russian posters who claimed the Canada Cups were fixed, but not boring.

So disappointed in our D corps. Our chance to defend the Gold is significantly reduced with this back end.

They are going to get eaten alive by the Finns. The Russians will walk over that defender if they play them. Who knows they may even fall to less powerful hockey nations. One of those years.

But we may be able to outscore them.

The forwards are good and if we play defense as a team, who knows?

I don't think the Russians or Finns will walk over us, maybe if we took them on early in the tournament they would but once we get a few games under our feet we could be allright.

I hope you are right my friend. But I can just imagine the feeling amongst those players that they have been sucker punched a bit to sign on to this tournament.

Great to see a young team. These players will benefit greatly from this experience. It's a team with potential and youth, and that combination often means promise.

Do you mean promise for the future? Or promise for a gold medal result in this tournament?

Well, I just looked at the Finnish and Russian defenders as it now stands and I don't see any hall of famers in their groups either.

They may have a very hard time keeping us from walking over them also.

I think we can stay with both those clubs and make it interesting as long as the coaching is good and players buy in.

People like big names, whether it's films, art, sport.

This is a good defense core, by no means great, but if you can sit there and say this will result in failure, your kidding yourself. For a World Championship squad, and the depth of the other rosters, this is a top team on paper.

Now, it's time to come together as a team.

The pursuit of these individuals forming a team is a sight to behold also, it would be so boring if the same players would play for Canada each year. Seems like I'm one of the few who loves this roster.

The youth of this team will show lots of risk taking and mistakes also, which will make games fun, probably closer then last year and will make for fun entertainment at least lol.

Can't wait, my favourite Hockey of the year!!!

Yep.

We are so highly emotional about the skoda invitational tournament that when I go into a pub I usually have to ask the bartender to turn one of the t.v's on to the game if I want to watch it.

That is how rabid we are for this thing over here.

Skoda invitational? Is that something like post trauma complex? i. Its called world hockey championship, ii. It does not have any sponzor in its name unlike Labat...., iii. its not invitational unlike..iv. most of its games are comparable to Stanley cup playoffs. Low interest of NA fans is very much understandable with all that limited rosters. But if you think that twisting its name is the correct way how to describe it regardless arguments above, keep continue... For me it just looks very poor...

Edit: this is not SWe Fin trashtalk and never will be...

Nice optimism!

Still the favourites, defencemen just have to get the puck on the forwards' stick. All of them are mobile, have good size, and are fresh. They'll be fine. Experience could end up being a problem especially on the back-end, but Matheson, Ceci, Hutton, Dumba are all good hockey players. Hutton was Vancouver's top-pairing guy and he was excellent, played like a 20 year vet, Ceci found himself a consistent spot on Ottawa's top 4, Dumba was a top 6 defenceman for Minnesota, Matheson was good in the playoffs.

Well it is not a world championship so I had to call it something.

About 10 years ago I zeroed in on the company that always seems to sponsor it and started calling it the Skodas.

Far more appropriate and it even sounds good too.

What can I say? it's caught on.

I did make a mistake calling it invitational though, I meant to say International. Sorry about that.

Perry even showed up to play on the putrid 2010 team, and that was the same year that he played in the Olympics. Have to respect Perry's willingness to play when he's already at the highest level.

The IIHF's website features inaccurate information with some regularity. From a quick glance they mention Getzlaf, Keith, Seabrook, Carter, Boyle, Doughty, Richards, Kunitz and Shark as candidates to actually play in this tournament this year. I don't know if it's laziness or stupidity on behalf of the writer.

The IIHF does enjoy shamelessly trying to elevate the significance of its tournament through the IIHF award for outstanding achievement in the field of excellence. Win the biggest league competition (Stanley Cup), the biggest international tournament (Olympics generally) and... another, much lesser international tournament. Weak attempt by the IIHF to leach off of two much larger tournaments.

Interesting.

Have to think if Brandon Davidson finished the year healthy that he would have got the call before some of these guys. At least Mattheson. Davidson was lights out to end the season.

7 players of the 1993 and '94 birth years? Not exactly our greatest junior tournaments with these players, most of whom competed in the 2 tournaments in Ufa and Malmo, except for Hutton and the other late addition... They should have invited more players from the 1995 birth year...if you are going to go young, may as well go all in...

A shot at redemption for those 2 failures or continue on with more of the same?

Oh well, maybe next year we'll be in the Paris group and the wives will convince their hubbies that an all expense paid Paris spring vacation is worth trying.

as for this year, watching McDavid dance around the competition is the only thing that I'm interested in now...and as a warm-up to that evening's main attraction, the NHL playoffs, that's good enough.
