Tuesday.
God Damn. still no news. my morning coffee ruined. Is it Hockey Canada's priority number 1 to piss me off. I bet it's in their mission statement and painted on the walls at the Calgary offices.

They are waiting for you to say some nice things about them for once.
Scott holds grudges.
For a meaningless Skoda Invitational, you seem to be pretty emotionally invested in this whole thing.![]()
The skodas are rather meaningless.
But he is probably like me, he wants to win it anyway because of the never ending litany of European posters who always rant stuff like this every year:
When Canada wins: 1. Canada not play fair 2. Ref gave Canada victory3.Canada should win with amount of registered players, we just small country
When Canada loses: 1. See? Canada not so good after all 2. What is wrong with Canada depth?, why cannot win with b-c team? 3.If Canada so good, why cannot win lowly Skodas?
And on and on.
That is why he is invested.

you failed to mention the most important. Some of my favorite Canadian players wearing my NT jersey and representing my country...I'd be invested if they were playing a pick-up game of street hockey in the neighborhood.
but if Hockey Canada ever decided not to send a team to the Skodas, if Olympic seeding was determined by other means, then I wouldn't be too disappointed at skipping this annual event...true, I'd have to find some other distraction to get me to my evening's fix of NHL playoff action. but that shouldn't be too difficult of a task.

Don't kid yourself - Canadians are very emotional about the Skoda Invitational! All that "we don't care" business is just in case things go South. These boards will be teeming with highly animated Canadians over the WC in the next 3 weeks.
Yes, I do believe that you believe yourself. Of course a comparison of the amount of Canadian posters in this thread vs the thousands who post in the NHL forums shows that you are pretty clearly far off the mark, but I guess that cognitive dissonance is best left avoided.

As for the average Canadian tilling the fields in Moose Jaw, pipe-lining in Anzac, running a deli in Woodbine Beach, producing maple syrup in Baie Saint-Paul, running the bar in Halifax, and beach-combing in Gibsons... they do not really care about the IIHF Mens Championship.
The Canadians on this board do care about the tournament. That's why we're here because it is hockey for which to cheer, and, at the same time, it's viewed as a consolation prize. Losing the Olympics in 2006 devastated us, whereas losing the WHC is no big deal. Winning it is like finding $20 in your pocket when you switch jackets for spring.

It gets a fraction of the attention that the Olympics receives, an event for which almost the entire nation follows.
What you say is probably correct, but why is there the great need among so many to take the time to write a post emphasizing how disinterested they are in the whole subject? If I was disinterested, I would just act disinterested and not post on the subject at all. There's a whole obligatory litany that has to be gone through - we don't have our best players, conflict with the Stanley Cup, wrong time of year, incompetent officiating - the whole thing. In the end, it doesn't appear to be disinterest.

True story! TSN Montreal just reported it. 3 regular season games and 5 playoff games with the Florida Panthers.
Woof. Adding a defenceman even less experienced than the others. But I guess when you have the chance to add a bottom pairing defenceman from Florida, you have to strike while the iron's hot.
On a positive note... Matheson's at least pretty mobile and from what I heard opinions on him were complimentary from his NHL stint. I guess it's not that hard to impress when you spent the year in the AHL though. Still have to think that there are at least 60 better Canadian defencemen though.
