It's a talented group, a B- group imo. a bit too young and unproven, but if we could have gotten a player like Giroux, then it goes to a B+ pretty quick. but it won't make a lick of difference if the D can't manage the game.

I think our centres 1 through 4 are strong for the Skoda. Other teams will have fits with the skill and ability for us to roll 4 lines up front.

Our D on the other hand...

I agree that experience is a big difference in this case. This group has a bit more talent and is certainly more mobile though. I'm pessimistic regarding this group overall, but there is at least a past example of a similar calibre group (behind a weak group of forwards) pulling out a win. 2003 had Luongo though, and Luongo was much better than whoever Canada will use this year.

I'm pretty confident in Talbot to be honest. I watched the Oilers, and they're d group is a lot worse than this Team Canada group, and he held them in a lot of games.

It's nearly unanimous amongst Oiler fans, we're happy with Talbot.

He played excellent especially in the latter half of the season, he was probably among one of the Oilers best players. He'll be fine for us at the WHC.

finally a scattering of players show up in Prague for a skate...

are you not there looking for McDavid's autograph? You should get it. it will be worth a fortune someday.

He's such a kind and nice kid too, he'll stay and give any fans who ask an autograph.

Better than Smith last year?

I really like Marchand with McDavid. Not sure about Duchene there, as I would rather go with more depth, but that line would have crazy speed. I assume that they want Perry with Hall and Brassard, which might work with Hall allowed to carry the puck up before Perry and Brassard take care of it once they enter the zone.

McDavid with Duchene and Marchand to start - per Ryan Rishaug (also per Rishaug, Peters said we can read a lot into the current line combo's).

Edit - Jack beat me to it with the Twitter links

ya, I'm not particularly thrilled with this coach's line combos.

but 6 games to prep for the game that matters. the 7th game v Finland for 1st place in the group. Unless the Americans pull a miracle out of their ass. which has been known to happen on occasion.

The game against Finland will determine 1st place in our group. The Finns had a 3-2 win over Russia today.

I'm pumped for that game. May 17th will be some good hockey.

Luongo was nothing special at the 2003 tournament. Burke was on a completely different level before he got injured in the semis.

They weren't on the level of the 2015 WHC team. Anyone who seen that team knows what I'm talking about.

I know, but still strong teams. Much stronger than the teams that Sweden sended. So Canada taking gold in this tournament is not by any means a lock even tought you are the favorites.

And indeed the 2015 team was awesome, nobody can deny this.

I honestly don't remember anything other than the gold medal game... I probably did see one preliminary round game though. Certainly would rather have Luongo (2015 or otherwise) than Talbot. Talbot has experience playing behind a young, inexperienced defence though.

It came down to coaching. Last year they had the best system/playing style by far. Like many commentators said, they weren't afraid of the bigger surface, they just adapted and used it to the fullest. I'm suprised they didn't ask the coach from last year back since he was available.

Indeed they should have. The reason they didn't, according to TSN, is because he is coaching the horrible Young Gunz at the World Cup.

Don't like Duchene playing RW on the top line. Would like to see Perry play in that spot and move Duchene to centre the Hall line with Reinhart/Brassard/Scheifele/Stone.

Marchand-McDavid-Perry
Hall-Duchene-Reinhart
Jenner-O'Reilly-Gallagher
Domi-Scheifele-Stone
Brassard

listen, as much as we like to **** on this tournament, it takes more than just a talented bunch of guys throwing on the jersey and lacing up the skates... if you are not well prepared, well coached and committed to winning it, then we can send the 2014 Olympic team, the chances of success are greatly diminished. (assuming of course there's an inexperienced dimwit coaching the team.)

If talking about talent, the 2011, 2012 and 2013 teams were close to the 2015 team. You can forget Olympic years, there's just no appetite to gear up for a tournament 3 months after an Olympics. And you can excuse 1 of the non-Olympic years 1/4 final fiascos as nothing more than just **** happens in a hockey game, but certainly not 3 of those 1/4 final exits. That is just inexcusable.

Curtis Hamilton who plays for Sparta Prague (Czech Extraliga) has been training with Team Canada. HC needed someone. And just 1 week ago, Hamilton was playing in the play-off finals in the same arena (O2 arena). He already represented Team Canada on Spengler Cup.

Here's your winger for McDavid. :)

And the World Juniors in Buffalo. of which I'm still pissed at Hockey Canada for naming him to the roster. but not his fault.
