I'd take both Barker and Robinson. 1 is a righty the other a lefty. natural fit. that makes 8 d. one of the youngsters, Hutton or Dumba can sit if they are lacking.

I also assume that those guys would go all out, viewing this as a chance to impress an NHL team by outperforming NHL teammates. Better than picking Dumba and Hutton and presumably whoever is the likely seventh defenceman.

Maybe it's Aaron Ekblad. :D

I would rather Ekblad than a KHL defenceman, but I also assume that if Ekblad was coming he would have been announced by now. The longer they go without announcing the final defenceman, the worse I expect that defenceman to be.

I know, it is less likely now. And he is also nominated to the World Cup.

qft.

We could really use a Brent Burns type of defenseman but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm just laughing knowing that next year Canada will send an absolute powerhouse team with the tournament in Paris. All the wives will want to go.

I wonder if anyone will fly over after the 2nd round is done?

If Canada is based in Paris the full 25 man roster will be full with A list players right away. But in all seriousness these wives and players have so much cash they would most likely want to jet off to Paris for a month without having to be at a stadium two thirds of the time.

Canadians who will go to the IIHF Worlds was very lucky!
St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world

The most beautiful city in the World.

I envy those who will be traveling to attend this event.

The players who go with their families are lucky to live a Worlds in the magic of Saint Petersburg and learn a little of Russian culture.

The art, the history, the music, the tradition, the culture, it's a paradise. Still to this day, have not seen a city in this World that gives you the magic feeling that this gem does.

Wait what? Russia might be plenty of things in politics and in the eyes of western people, but lacking in history/art/architecture is not one of them. St. Petersburgh is city of 300 years of history, and if you include time before that you can add couple of hundred years to that.

Russia isnt just drunks wondering in ghettos and orphans in sewers. For any NA saying anything like that well I suggest to look in the mirror.

Well, St. Petersburgh is pretty new city then, thought it was much older than that.

The very roots start from 1200-1300. But this is too ot now.

it was a sparsely populated area of mostly bog when Peter the Great decided he needed to put something there. Peter and Paul Fortress was the 1st. building there in 1703.

all OT and obviously the poster who started all this has never been there and shouldn't be allowing his fingers to type things of which he has no understanding.

If there is a Top 3 of cities of the World list, then St. Petersburg makes it. It's on my list anyway.

Russia will be good hosts. They love hockey, it'll be a good tournament.

I wish I could be there, hope our guys go on to Russian soil and defend the Gold. Canada v Russia for Gold would be perfect.

One of things where the Coach will repeat the same verse game after game, "Discipline Discipline Discipline!!! Can't take penalties in an elimination game and expect to come out on top" And for 7 games we'll hear that mantra... and guess what happens in the 1/4 final? One of those 3 will take a misconduct penalty 5 + game and boom. tournament done.

My bet, other than taking the under on McDavid 20 pts. (but McDavid will still lead the tournament in scoring) 1 of those 3 will take the misconduct that will cost us the tournament. My money is on Perry. Damn I'm cynical. :)

Come on MW, don't be such a pessimist :)

A few thoughts:
1. McDavid is hitting the Over on the Over/Under 20 points. He'll lead the tourney in points as predicted.

2. We're not getting bounced in the Quarters.

3. Canada will win Gold on Russian soil. It'll be Canada v Russia in the finals.

4. Our forwards will eat every team they play alive. 4 lines of relentless offensive pressure that these Euro teams are unable to deal with. They'll all fold eventually. Wave after wave.

Also, in case it hasn't been said, major props to Perry for coming over.

Perry is a two time Olympic Gold medalist, someone with his pedigree is a huge addition to our forward group, hard to deny even if you dislike him. I'm very happy he's coming over to represent Canada.

Perry patriot.
He is the pride of our country.
It is a pity that not all super-star players dream of playing for the national team

Big respect to Perry for coming. He didn't have to, but he's coming and will own this tournament.

Our best have shown up to the Olympics and won 3 of the last 4. Canadians take pride in playing for Canada like Russians do for the motherland, it's just that the IIHF WHC is at a bad time coming off a tough NHL season.

Canadas 2014 team was probably the greatest hockey team ever assembled, they shut down everyone.
