See: Getzlaf, Ryan. 2012 quarter-final game vs. Slovakia. Took a late 5-minute major (boarding, or maybe charging...I forget) and a game misconduct, and Slovakia scored the winner immediately after on the PP.

Which was just the culmination of a ridiculous, undisciplined period.

They do have room to add 1 more forward 2 Defensemen and 1 goalie. That would max out the roster at 25.

I doubt they would go that route though. 1 suspect they hope for 1 more defensemen and a 3rd goaltender.

I'm not thrilled with the Perry addition. I've never been a fan of his game, especially not in Europe and on that ice...but respect at least for answering the call. McDavid will have to do all the skating for him...He does at least bring some veteran experience.

The good news is that with Perry's addition, it will give me something to ***** about in GDTs, I always love to have something to ***** about...and as he is the only player on this addition of Team Canada that I truly dislike...there's my ammo.

Who knew! And I love it!

As long as penalties are kept to a minimum and the D continues to adapt to the big ice as the tournament progresses, we'll have a good shot to go far. Despite the youth, all lines shouldn't have a problem generating chances. It will be very interesting to see the line combinations. Would rather see Hall and McDavid separated, however. Both times during the year that they were put together for a string of games the chemistry failed to develop.

those kind of plays can happen. it's a fast game and what looks to be someone moving in for a big hit, half-a-second prior, turns and goes all wrong and becomes boarding. mercifully not often. it's the chirping after the whistle, pushing, shoving, spears, slashes and stick infractions, that Senior Men's Team Canada entries have been excellent at staying from for as far back as I can remember. very very good at turning the other cheek and just skating away and lining up for the next draw and then burying one and lining back up at centre))
I'd like to put in a plug for Perry on the big ice surface as well. He and Getzlaf and Benn were stellar in Sochi. Re-watched all those games recently that Team Canada played in in Sochi, and no line in the whole tournament owned the puck for long stretches of time in the offensive zone like those 3 did. Perry was an equal contributor to that line's puck ownership. I would put him with McDavid and Hall. Or McDavid and Marchand. Sit back and enjoy watching the other team's effort and frustration trying to get the puck back. I think a puck possession line like that will generate a lot more calls and penalties, than any undisciplined play on our part will result in penalties. I know our D group isn't the strongest. But puck possession is going to be our game next month, and like Sochi, I like our chances with that style of game

Getzlaf, the man wearing the C took the major and it was for Kneeing. RNH took the boarding call a few minutes before that...

so there goes the poster's theory that a player wearing the C will play disciplined. **** happens.

Getzlaf and Perry weren't very good at that tournament, which if you'll recall was a source of concern for some of us heading into Sochi. He was good in Sochi, and I'd say this appearance at the Worlds pretty much locked up a roster spot for him for the World Cup. It's commendable that, as a Team Canada vet, he's accepted invitations in some of the off-cycle years like 2010 and this year.

Just looked up the game summary, and you're correct - it was kneeing. Not a call you see everyday. While Perry has been a disciplined performer for us in 2010 and 2014, he's never been seen as or talked about as a strong leader in Anaheim. He's also awkward as hell in interviews which makes me wonder what he's like in the locker room. I'd give Ryan O'Reilly the "C" and let him set the tone...which is particularly important with guys like Marchand and Gallagher on the team.

So, the defense corps.....??? Ekblad? Campbell? Hamonic? Somebody else on Dumba55's level?

I hope so there are 2 significant additions on D yet to come. Hamonic is still playing and unlikely to extend his season should he become available. Just wants to come home to Western Canada and be close to family. I think he'll just return home and await his trade. but he'd be a welcomed addition if Hockey Canada made room for him after the 2nd rd. They also better make room for Tavares if that's the case. one of the rookies can sit and watch in the pressbox.

ROR Captain. Okay in my book.

Right, I remember reading about some family issues he was having and his trade request to the Western Conference. I like Hamonic a lot and feel he's a guy worth waiting for after the 2nd round, but his personal circumstances make it a no-go. Fair enough.

Well, apparently, P.K. Subban is so much injured that he has time to go to London on vacation and post pics/videos on his instagram account. Instead of going to Russia, represent your country and fight for spot on the World Cup team. Well done!

That doesn't mean that he isn't injured. I also wouldn't be surprised if Subban and a few other players have received word from Hockey Canada that they will be at the World Cup, even if they weren't named to the initial roster. That's just speculation though. The bigger issue is the healthy, World Cup aspiring Calgary duo. Brodie and Giordano should be at this tournament, and their addition would make Canada a significantly stronger threat.

Man, you gotta chill a little.

Enjoy this tournament for what it is, a fun little year end tournament. Don't expect people to shape their lives around your entertainment.

I don't know why any Team Canada fans are lamenting this years roster...try being a USA hockey fan and look at our team! At least some of your high end players bother to show up. I hate to say it but top American players only seem to be interested if its a prestigious tournament like the Olympics. Wish you guys all the best!

I think he's come to grips with the fact that he's losing his Olympic spot to Brent Burns anyway. And it would be the right call, not because P.K. bailed on this tournament, but Burns deserves the spot over P.K.

I think he milked the injury excuse a little bit. disappointing...but what can you do.

Unfortunately PK is only about PK. I really did want him to join the team but in hindsight I am now happy to see it go to a young and hungry guy. Good luck to the defense on Canada. Perhaps a standout tournament for Canada in May will get you on the World Cup radar. I equally hope Subban is passed over by Team Canada in September. Brodie and and Giardanno should not be considered either.

I mean, maybe it sounds like that from my post, but I am not really mad / pissed about it. It just looks bad on player, imo. Especially when the regular season ended, there was still basically 1 full month to heal which is quite a time.

Russian players are not among my favourite ones but you gotta give them credit for how they approach the World Hockey Championships - the way it should be since it is one of the major international tournaments.

Yep, hope so. Although maybe Subban is really injured and couldn't go even if he wanted. It was a little bit speculation on my part.

No new tweets from the twit Salmond on his latest Prague adventures and preparations for the WHC? Still haven't seen any updates on player departures for Prague. I believe the first few are scheduled to fly out tonight on the cross-atlantic redeye.

just looked at this year's roster. definitely not as strong as last year's corps.

At least 1 D and 1 G.

Certainly one defenceman, possibly not another goaltender. Sometimes they only take two.

I wouldn't mind Hockey Canada looking to the top Canadian KHL defencemen if the only options are Dumba level players. Someone like Barker or Robinson. They know the ice surface and could help the younger Canadian defencemen get accustomed to it, and really they can't be much worse than players like Dumba or Hutton.

Robinson better Dumba:)

Excellent idea.
but are you suggesting somebody within Hockey Canada actually do a little research and put in a couple of hours work? Not going to happen.

They did that in 2007 didn't they? That defensemen that ended up in Florida for a couple years. He was really crafty on the big ice. Anyone remember his name?

Why not, if they don't feel like they can get someone better... Cam Barker had pretty strong season in KHL, would be nice to reward him with this opportunity. Good veteran presence and he's used to play on large surface. Pretty good idea!

I'd take both Barker and Robinson. 1 is a righty the other a lefty. natural fit. that makes 8 d. one of the youngsters, Hutton or Dumba can sit if they are lacking.
