Laine is like a Rick Nash clone IMO. They are pretty much the exact same player. Both big guys with good skating and an elite shot. Both not overly physical for their size and use it more to protect the puck.
Pulju reminds me more of a shorter Wheeler. Both physical playmakers. Both have a solid shot but tend to pass more. Both blazingly fast skaters.

I hear Laine being described as very Wheeler like in the way he plays. Basically a top line winger who can really push the play up the ice. I haven't watched much of him but I was able to see a few of his games in the finnish league and he looks very impressive. He just glides out there and he can fly with the puck.

Here is a good iso video of him getting a hat trick. Love the part where he picks up the puck in his own zone and skates it out.

Puljujarvi I like less then Laine. He reminds me a bit like Voracek mixed with Selanne. Good skater and good size. Really heavy shot and good release. He has that big butt that uses really well to defend the puck with. I don't think he is a natural goal scorer though and is more of a play maker. I don't see him scoring a lot in the NHL though.

I am familiar with both, just curious about how people think they'd fit into a long term depth chart along side Connor and Ehlers. I definitely get why both guys are highly touted, but I don't see either as miles better than Nikolaj.

I do however see Matthews as a pile better than other Jets centres. I also see a couple D men that I like more than Morrissey (on draft day).

I am always a BPA guy - just wondering what others think.

>Both have ceiling of +100 points at peak, both are likely to break 1ppg at some point.
>Both will likely be better than wheeler, notably better? maybe.
>Ovie/Kane level? Unlikely, Matthews is unlikely to be that level too. Any of them could be but I doubt it.
>Completely different level prospects compared to Ehlers/Connor. (edit. dont like comparing them either)
I like Laine better at this point better, he has that superstar potential.

Comparing the Finns to either of our skill guys (especially Ehlers) isn't really a fair comparison. Be happy to have either, and I agree its BPA, but I do see our greatest need to land a good D prospect or two. Who are the guys you really like there?

Depends if you think size gives them an edge. Ehlers is hard to compare with those guys because he put up incredible numbers in Junior. I find if I compare him with Nylander I think Ehlers is better. Dubois may come close to Ehlers production level in junior. I think we got gifted with Ehlers though he really should have went higher. You could argue he is equal to Bennett and Reinhart but those guys are centers.

Ehlers and Conner are Left wingers. Laine is a Right winger who can play the off wing very easily. I think he played the left side at the world juniors and Puljujarvi is a RW.

For the most I think they are equal with size giving the finns the slight edge. The nice thing is they would be natural bookends with Ehlers/Connor in the future.

somewhere flat
So hypothetically speaking, say we don't pick top five AND are able to move Ladd for a late 1st (25+), BPA at both slots but if BPA at both slots are D men, who are we looking at? Chychrun and who?

If we are picking on the backend 25-30. I like Logan Stanley.. Reminds me of a more physical Myers but a lefty.
There is also Neimelainen, Green and Dineen in that range. Though we may be able to snag one of them in the early 2nd. With our late 1st we could take a chance on one of the small forwards like Debrincat if he's there. Lots of upside but a risky pick.

I saw a mock draft recently that had Bean in the early second so that would be pretty awesome haha.. Baring that however I'd be really happy with Cam Dineen.. Lotta good comps there!

I realized we can't take Pierre-Luc Dubois or we'll be subject to Beyak saying his full name all the time. The horror!

i still think dubois will be our pick, its visible we dont have a bad team we are just largely inconsistent.

the way i see lines shaking up in 2 years:

ehlers-schiefele-connor/wheeler
? (boedker from fa?)-little-wheeler/connor
perreault-dubois-spacek? a 3rd line rw would be cool
lowry-lipon/fa-lemieux

enstrom/trouba-byfuglien
enstrom/morrisey-myers
morrisey/kostalek-trouba/fa

hellebuyck
comrie

this gives us 3 scoring lines which works excellent. our d-core is flexible and we have no true top or bottom pair, and we have probably the best tandem in the nhl at that point (tandem not starter)

i can see dubois topping out at a more defensive eric staal or hell even maybe a sakic

If a Jets land 3rd pick , hope they try to land Matthews

If Oilers pick first that would be easier, than Columbus who most likely pick a C.

I'd be really happy with either of the Finns though... and one would probably have to give up to much for 1st oa

Bean is really exciting, I'd be happy with him in the mid-1st, though hopefully he'll last to whatever late pick we get from ladd(hopefully )

If I were the GMs holding all of the top picks, I'd go:

Matthews
Laine
Juolevi
Puljujarvi
Tkachuk
Dubois
Sergachaev
Chychrun

I like Bean a lot with a pick after 15, and I'd take a flyer on Sean Day in the 2nd.

I would be really happy with a Dubois pick. The more I read/watch about him the more I think we should draft him. He'd be in the NHL next season as well.

If we are picking 5-8 this is a guy I would love to target.

Brayden Burke plays for Lethbridge Hurricanes WHL.
Is everyone ignoring him because of a small build or because he plays in the WHL.
The kid has 90 points and most of them are assists. Could be a very nice prospect for a team that has a pure sniper in their cupboard.
draft eligible this year.

If we got him I'd like he Jets to keep him in Cape Breton for another season before making the jump.

I've been a big booster of PLD but he IS playing with Evgeni Svechnikov who I think is a VERY good player.

I'd still like PLD outside of the top 5 but it does give me some pause.

he's also producing worse with svech than without. LOVE svech as a prospect tho

I see Dubois in the 1st than Juolevi with a trade or niemelainen without, Stanley or Laberge in the 2nd, Sokolov/Lyszczrcyk/Kuznetsov/ in the 3rd and Tuulola
