Considering who they drafted. I would think foot speed is probably a top consideration

As for McLeod again he is a guy who probably lacks that high end skill, but his work ethic, speed and strength are top of the charts.

I don't think Dubois has the skill to be in the mix for a top 5 guy, interesting guy though for sure but he reminds me a bit like Couturier and I can see him being a 20/20 guy in the NHL because he is able to dominate teenagers but he won't be able to dominate NHLers.

I like Chychrun alot, I think he is stability guy that could play with a loose cannon type. I rock on the back end who can put up 30 points a year.

If we don't have a shot a Matthews or one of the Finns then he is the guy I want, Even after that I would rather take a shot at Nylander because he has top 5 skill

I think Dubois will have top 6 potential for sure. He's 4th in Primary scoring in the Q, 1st among 2016 draft year players and is incredibly versatile. Plays physical, has a responsible two-way game and has a great scoring touch.
Its between him and Serge for 5th pick for me.

I have him in my top 10

1. Matthews
2. Laine
3. Puljujarvi
4. Chychrun
5. Nylander
6. Dubois
7. Gauthier
8. Keller
9. Tkachuk
10. Fabbro

I probably have Julovei,Sergachev,Jost and Mcleod as guys that can move in out of the top 10.

Keller is the guy that people don't seem to talk about. Considering he is going to end up close to score the same as Matthews and Eichel. Not the biggest guy but he can flat out play

McLeod actually looks good when you go to primary points per game.
7th overall among 2016 prospects, Nylander is 8th.
Tkachuk is 10th.
Erie prospects dominate the top 4.

Yeah I'm really interested in Keller. Not sure if he can be Matthews, Eichel level but he looks really really good.
I'm going to put together a list of 2016 prospects from CHL sorted by even strength primary points per 60 and post it here when I get a chance. Anyone know where I can find CHL corsi data? haha doubt it exists.

Tkachuk has a ton of 2nd assists, But his size/stat comps are actually kinda insane.. Just makes me want to get data for older seasons all the more haha.

If they don't get the #1 pick, I just have a feeling the Leafs take Tkachuk. Maybe I'm reading too much into a possible Knights connection, but I can see Mark Hunter calling his name.

And be a pick that would be highly scrutinized by TO fans and media.

Brock's midseason top 10 NHL draft eligible consensus from the OHL.

http://ohlprospects.blogspot.ca/2016/02/midseason-mediascout-top-10-for-2016.html

Nice little read up for quotes on certain OHL players.

This was something I had heard before as well but..

Seen Jakob over a dozen times this season alone. Still my undisputed top OHL prospect as his upside is that of a true top pairing NHL defender no matter what some outlets might be spinning. Coach Hatcher has him reeling in his offensive game a bit more in favor of playing a safer game which might not be for Jakob’s best interest from a showcase of talent point of view as his offensive rushing ability is absolutely dynamic.

For those souring on Chychrun because of his point totals this could be a piece of the puzzle as to why.

I'd still take Chychrun in the top 5 personally.

This "reeling in his offense" stuff sounds like a load of horse****. "Yeah, he was creating offense and pushing the play forward, but we really want him to concentrate on playing the five man box and shot blocking." Good coaching. :sarcasm:

What - you think Stuart came out of the womb as a fully formed shotblocking, 5v5 PK monster? ;)

It does sound like BS - why would a coach reel in the offense of defenseman that can carry the puck and push the play forward? Hard for the opposition to score when the puck isn't in your end. I don't buy it.

Couldn't tell you the truth behind it as I don't actually watch the games, just not the first time I've seen someone say that. The coach probably instills as a whole a more defensively oriented system for the team. Seems to be working as well as most players on the team are fairly low scoring yet they have a good record.

...Well except Konecny who is tearing it up since being traded there.

I know we won't have a shot at drafting him, but Matthews looks to be exactly what this team needs when making a serious push as a cup contender. The fact he's had good success with Connor and Roslovic on his wings just makes for an interesting hypothetical depth chart in 3-4 years.

Connor-Matthews-Roslovic
Petan-Scheifele-Ehlers
Lowry-Harkins-Armia
Lemieux-Copp-?

That's a pretty imposing forward group.

Imposing in the AHL maybe. Schiefele and Ehlers are players at the NHL level and not particularly imposing, the others I'm not so sure.

I am going on the record to predict a riser between now and draft day will be Cam Dineen from Brampton. If we get a late 1st round pick he is the guy I would want.

I haven't even heard of him. What is there to like?

Raw rookie on a very defensive team that is 3rd in team scoring and he is a left shot D man about 5'11-6'. Nice skater, great IQ, smart PP QB, really good puck mover, and his defensive positioning has improved as the season has progressed. He is putting up big points and flying a under the radar a bit IMO.

Question about the Finn wingers...

Where do people think their ceilings are?

Where do people think their ceilings are relative to Connor and Ehlers?

Wheeler is the third highest scoring right winger in the league since the Jets returned. That hasn't carried the team anywhere - neither has Kessel at number two. Are any of these guys likely to be notably better?

Are any of these guys likely to be at the P Kane or Ovechkin level? If not, what is their true value to this team?

Just a random thought.

Green-Bean pair IMO was fun at the prospects game, if only for their epic pairing name.

I hear Laine being described as very Wheeler like in the way he plays. Basically a top line winger who can really push the play up the ice. I haven't watched much of him but I was able to see a few of his games in the finnish league and he looks very impressive. He just glides out there and he can fly with the puck.

Here is a good iso video of him getting a hat trick. Love the part where he picks up the puck in his own zone and skates it out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H3dJGt2N-o

Puljujarvi I like less then Laine. He reminds me a bit like Voracek mixed with Selanne. Good skater and good size. Really heavy shot and good release. He has that big butt that uses really well to defend the puck with. I don't think he is a natural goal scorer though and is more of a play maker. I don't see him scoring a lot in the NHL though.
