I'd be fine with Chych if we're picking 4th or on.

Pick him second or third and i'm burning down Chevy's mansion.

Considering our record with our 1st round picks, I wouldn't worry. But I suspect you are higher on some others at 2nd or 3rd? What's your top 5 look like if I may ask?

Matthews
Laine
Puljujarvi

A combo of Tkachuk/Chychrun/Nylander for 4-6

After that I still haven't decided, though Gauthier REALLY impressed me, just sucked he came down with the flu.

Also, London is going to be a team i'm going to try and watch alot more going forward. Not just for Tkachuk but for Juolevi. I would have been happy to get him around 11-12 earlier in the year, but damn, he made it look so effortless at times against top players.

For me I'd prefer Chych over any of the top wingers. Chych has some incredible potential. If that gets realized you're looking at a franchise two-way defencemen something that very few teams have and something that every single playoff contender has. Right now he is falling due to the WJC but I suspect by the time the draft starts in 6 months he will be right back at that #2 spot.

Let's hope he isn't and we can nab him at 6th to 7th. ;) there were so many guys that blew the doors off at the WJC I could see a slide.

It could happen but 6 months is a long time. A lot of posters over on the main prospects board think he is overrated because he didn't make Canada's WJC squad. I think all of them have yet to watch him play in a game.
What I like about him is last season he came into the OHL and posted 33 points in 42 games as a rookie defencemen and had 16 goals over that campaign. He showed what he is capable of offensively. A lot of people criticized him because of his defensive numbers so he comes into this season and completely changes his game. Starts showing his defensive side more.
He just changes his entire game just like that. Want me to be an offensive powerhouse? Okay here are some goals. Oh I'm not being defensively responsible enough for you? Okay here I'll do that.
He's an all around kid with incredible abilities. If he falls simply because of the WJC teams are going to regret it. I just hope we are the team that capitalizes on that mistake.

Good post I would never degrade him because he didn't make Canada as a 17 year old D man. My point was not him doing anything wrong, it was about how well some of the other kids did to possibly elevate themselves. Now I am aware that it is a short tournament and I think in general its importance gets massively overvalued by the casual fan like me who gets 90% of our personal scouting off this sample . That being said the results of the 17 year olds this year were jaw dropping by historic standards. If Chychrun was even in the #2 spot it is quite conceivable having all the scouting departments eyes focused on this tournament at the same time could have helped hit a reboot on rankings.

Time will tell but I can tell you personally I am ALLOT more jacked about our 1st pick in this draft than I was a month ago.

I would really like to get one of the Finns the fact that they can play in the AHL immediately is a huge bonus.I think both guys can make the jump to the NHL but if they struggle the can go down and get some confidence. Not very high on Tkachuk only because of his skating the game has just become so fast really skilled guys who lack speed will have shorter careers. He may be able to continue to improve his skating but it's a definite gamble.

Both Finns are under contract for 16/17. It's probably unlikely they would play in the AHL next year, although it is possible.

Top 5 looks like a very good place to be. Matthews, Laine, Pulu, Chychrun, Tkachuk look to be a pretty solid top 5 imo.

After that there are plenty of players I think are interesting (say interesting as I'm not going to pretend to have seen most of them).

Gauthier, Nylander, and Juolevi all looked good at the WJHC.

I also really like the sounds of Dubois and Mcleod.

Then you've got guys like Keller, Fabbro, Sergachyov, Jost, and Jones, that's a pretty nice top 15.

Obviously be nice to get two in that group, but it would be great to get one and then follow up with a guy like Bellows, Brown, Keller, Rubtsov, or McAvoy as well.

Thats good they get another year of "pro" hockey without burning a year of their ECL?

Does a year playing vs men in Europe help these guys out more then a player playing an extra year in the CHL? I would guess yes

Laine and Puljujärvi are big players and their game-styles are made north american rink.
So learning to play north american hockey shouldn't be problem.

Puljujärvi is undrafted in CHL but Laine is drafted 2015 CHL import draft 1st round 24th overall to Sarnia Sting.
It's very unlikely to see Laine playing for CHL next season and why he should play there when he has chance to play in AHL.

But for Puljujärvi a season in CHL would be good he can't speak much English.
Actually Jesse can't speak English at all right now.

Lets see what happen.

I can't see Puljujärvi going back to juniors as he is playing pro hockey against men now. But maybe he'll play in the AHL next year if he doesn't make it to the NHL.

There is zero chance I would put a kid with his size and skill in juniors. If he didn't make the NHL I would put him in the AHL or leave him in Europe playing against men.

He should stay home for another year. It's not like he's mastered the Finnish league.

I think the NHL would be the worst place for him to play next year. Too many 18 year olds are rushed into the league and get stagnated.

How likely is that Jets going to take Laine or Puljujärvi.

Laine and Puljujärvi are both TOP3 prospects in this summers draft.
And without TOP3 pick jets doesn't have realistic chance to get either of these big Finns.

Probably play in the AHL like Rantanen.

Yeah maybe.
But situations can change.

It's really unlikely to see Puljujärvi in CHL.
But no-one can't never know what'll happen next autumn.

I don't even know is Jesse interested to play in CHL.
But if he gets drafted there lets see then what happen.

By they way does CHL scouts follow world juniors?.

When columbus finishes with the second pick nd the Jets pick third, package Brendan Lemieux, Roslovic and something else for Pulji..then pick Laine third....

I was thinking something along those lines. Try to pickup both of those players. Would be a big cornerstone for years to come like the Sedins.

I highly doubt anything gets Pulju to the Jets other than one of Connor and Ehlers+
