So the Kings trade for an ECHL goalie and only have four picks for the draft, didn't move around at all, and no roster players were moved.

Haha, the Kings are going back to Year One of Lombardi's first 5 year plan. Goalie out, lots of D, if you pick a forward, make it a C.

What exactly were people expecting ? Lombardi said a bunch of nothing in exit interview.

Also the cap being stagnant basically, Toffoli/PEarson are both due large raises coming soon. The Kings can't shed any big contracts.

No one in the AHL has played well enough to dislodge a Veteran. Honestly, what did some folks expect ?

For a team that knows their pipeline is depleted quite a bit due to making trades for impending UFAs, they simply failed to get more picks or prospects to restock the pipeline. This is what they were reportedly trying to do, so this is an F to meet that objective.

The organization has Peter Budaj, and need to get a long term prospect at least to start in Ontario. Right now, they traded for an ECHL goalie who has had stagnated production. This objective can be graded as a C at best, considering they made a low risk trade to address an organizational need.

The Kings are clearly showing a recognition of problems in the locker room/team pushing itself by making a change in captaincy after they were simply outplayed and out-willed by the Sharks. They identify five AHL players who can play in the NHL as soon as next year. They don't need to replace the team with five rookies, but there's something to be said about trying to shed some dead weight to revive the locker room and acquire picks/prospects for organizational depth, especially since those were organizational goals.

I wasn't expecting trading Brown for a first. But with the most underwhelming finish to the season in Lombardi's tenure, he can be given a C at best these past two days to address organizational needs.

Good assessment. Agreed.

And resigning Lewis? C for that. Hope they move one or more of: King, Clifford, Nolan for something. And hope they can actually land one of the three mentioned: Eriksson, Okposo, Ladd.

I really like our picks and think Clague and Moverare will be steals for us. I'm just disappointed that we have players ready to make the jump but are still blocked by the dead weight veterans whom Sutter always plays over kids anyway. Just ****ing stupid.

So hopefully the folks that were clamoring for more Euro draftees are happy!

I just want the Kings to do better homework on European players. They can draft all Euros or all North Americans for all I care, but having multiple European players staying in Europe longer than we'd like (Prokhorkin, Kitsyn, and Dergachev) or defecting to Europe when the going gets tough (Kubalik) is just unnecessary loss for an organization that already has been trading prospects to bolster their NHL roster.

I'm okay with the Lewis signing. As far as organizational objectives of trying to learn from their mistakes, it addresses very little.

Bingo. I wasn't expecting any big moves, but I was expecting movement around the draft to acquire more picks. It was time to trade the likes of Clifford and get a pick or two

Isn't this draft considered pretty weak?

That's what a few of the usual publically available lists were alluding to. During a radio interview, Craig Button labeled the depth as terrible compared to other years.

Definitely seemed like a down year for Canada which always seems like red flag when compared to other years. Ie, in 1999 Kris Beech was the first Canadian off the board at #7.

I know Red Line said things fell off around #22/23 and I felt the same way while putting together a list for my keeper league draft.

Don't know why Tampa would trade Deangelo…he's a very good prospect.

They drafted him knowing he had potential personality issues and it seemed like they had been shopping him at the deadline. They swapped him for a safer D prospect in Hajek who could have conceivably been drafted on Friday and nobody would have been outraged.

Once again, for all the talk of movement, it's been a realatively boring draft.

Yeah, sometimes the seeds get planted at the draft and then get executed after the dust settles on free agency. Way back when, there was video of Bryan Murray and Lou Lamoriello talking at the 2002 Draft discussing a Friesen/Sykora swap. That didn't get finalized until July 7th that year.

At least for me, it still feels like Edmonton's gonna be the first domino.

Agreed. We heard lots of big talk when Lombardi gave his odd post-season conference call but here we are post-draft and it looks a lot like more of the same.

I argued for trading Clifford to, but the truth is, maybe no one wanted him. And really, his value is probably a 4th or a 5th pick, is that really going to make that much of a difference in the pipeline?

You also have to replace Clifford with an actual NHL body.

Not much action at the draft this year. Last year guys like Lucic, O'Reilly, and Hamilton moved. No real big names this year.

Most teams just don't want to take on salary for picks anymore unless it's a huge benefit. I do think we will see some big names moving next week however.

I'm not the biggest AA fan, but he looked just as good, if not better at the end of the season. That NHL body could easily be Mersch or Dowd. Not a huge cap savings, but some space nonetheless.

Well, that is not a challenge considering Clifford has basically contributed nothing the past two seasons.

Then why hasn't he been replaced ?

All of these so called worthless bottom six players remain on the Kings roster.

None of the AHL guys have been able to replace these worthless NHL bodies.

Still waiting for all these 600k-900k minimum salary NHL players to show up you guys keep talking about.

Been waiting since 2012.

Hey now, the Kings have had a few cheap guys do well since then. Toffoli, Pearson, and Muzzin come to mind. In 2014-2015 they were making $870K, $925K, and $1M respectively. They also bumped players down in the lineup that were much better than a Clifford.
