Expecting the Kings to do more to replenish the pipeline and not just stand pat with 4 picks is unreal?

No, but assuming that's all that's going to happen this summer so one can continue his or her outrage is unreal. It's like posters just want to be upset and are looking for reasons to be outraged.

Criticism is fair and one thing entirely but posters hopping thread to thread and complaining about conflicting things is getting ridiculous.

Maybe it's just me because I'm tasked with the cleanup when things get out of hand.

The expectations around here are unreal this offseason.

I think most of us just expect the Kings management to understand that the game is evolving and if you dont adapt you stay behind. You dont stick to the same heavy type system with a bunch of bottom 6ers who are going to be put in roles that can be replaced by others .

Also Martinez is not a top 4 dman. He is a bottom pairing dman making 4 million. He should either be hit with another + and sent out for an upgrade or traded for an up and coming defenseman.

King and Clifford are blocking other prospects from coming up . How is Mersch , Dowd and others going to crack the lineup with Sutters favorites still on the team. If Sutter doesnt change his system im willing to bet that we dont make the playoffs next year. Also our prospects development and hunger will stagnate knowing the parent club is going to continue playing bunch of scrubs over them.

No it is not just you. I have noticed this as well this chicken little syndrome is what i like to call it. Its in the king fans dna to complain after all we had a good 20+ years of misery to recover from it. People need to realize this is a golden age of kings hockey We have never had this and should be happy and relax a little.

To the first paragraph, they've talked all summer thus far about evolving. Yes, we have yet to see it, but they've at least talked the talk so far, so all the criticism when we're not even a month removed from those comments yet 3 months from puck drop is jumping ahead.

Find me bottom pairing d-men around the league you'd take over Martinez. I'll wait.

I'm happy that guys have to earn their jobs, but like with the first paragraph, I think there's plenty of summer left for roster shaping, and from every indication thus far, at least 2-3 guys are going to take over on the roster, and that's BEFORE moving parts out.

What deal(s) are you personally aware of that would have helped alleviate this situation?

“We’ve got five guys [playing for the American Hockey League’s Ontario Reign] who can play for [the Kings] next year,†said Yanetti. “But if they’re not going to play for us, we’ve got to maximize those assets. We could start re-stocking our draft picks by trading those assets for prospects, or to fill organizational needs.â€

“Here’s where you need to do your forward thinking,†added Yanetti. “‘This asset is going to play for the Kings, but this asset might not. How are do we maximize that asset? Are we going to get our goaltender this way? A young defenseman?’â€

“For those assets, whether it’s bad timing, whether it’s depth, position or situation, those assets have to be maximized. That’s where Dean is exceedingly effective.â€

“This draft is really important,†added Yanetti. “We have to re-stock our defensive depth, our goaltending depth and our forward depth. We could graduate three forwards to L.A. this year.â€

“If you look on the horizon, these are the next two or three years [in the draft] where we re-stock our prospect pool, so this year and next year are critically important. If we don’t, the age distribution hole will be a gaping one, and we’d have to fill that hole via free agency. But if we can, the age distribution and prospect depth will be seamless.â€

“We watched the draft unfold and we have a lot of things in place for [Saturday], whether it’s moving up or moving down in every round—every possible scenario,†Yanetti noted. “There are scenarios for moving up and there are scenarios for moving back. I would say there are more scenarios for moving back than up.â€

Tell you what, I don't know what trades were available. But I DO know that management and the scouting staff perceives this draft as important and know they need to maximize assets to keep the organization flowing. They Feel they have 5 NHL players. If those players aren't going to play, Yanetti himself said they have to be traded/maximized. If those players ARE going to play, then it's not unreasonable to expect them to be able to trade ONE of their bottom six players to create a roster spot for the players to compete.

I'm not saying Lombardi didn't try. I'm saying he did not achieve this very plain goal. I'd venture a guess he was one of the very few GMs who did not make a pick related trade. Considering he only had 4 picks, that's very disheartening.

:help::popcorn: ill wait as well because there isn't one for me

With how little movement there is in the league, I don't think it's bad to think that the draft was a bit of a fizzle. It is one of those times in the year where pieces move. I do think LA tried but had little in the way of willing partners. Now we have a week of prognosticating about free agents to get through.

LA usually doesn't hit home runs in free agency. I think it's known who they will target. I'm guessing Hamhuis could be added to that mix. I honestly expect LA to sign a guy like Purcell for a year.

I have advocated moving out guys like Clifford and King but I'm not sure it matters that much unless a key first liner is signed and space is needed.

I don't think a move for movements sake is anyone's desire.

This is the best era of Kings hockey since I became a fan in 89. I do feel the team is a little stale after two disappointing seasons. I say that knowing they were both years that were still good and record setting.

I'm happy to see Dowd/Mersch/Gravel get a shot.

Kempe and Amadio give me hope. Forbort is a ???

I'm just curios to see what this adjustment means to DL and co. I'm going to have to be patient to find out. I trust them tho.

Interesting comment. Most drafts, moving around seems almost a given.

He elaborated on LAKingsInsider.com

"The strange thing about this draft was how hard it was to move,†Yanneti said. “The toll charge was no toll charge in some of the moves now. A fourth for a fourth next year? I’ve never heard of that. So our phone was not ringing, and when we’re calling, we’re getting ‘nos’ or no calls back."

With Sutter coaching i have a hard time believing the guys from Ontario are going to take over any roster spot.

I never said Martinez isnt the greatest bottom pairing dman, he is definitely the best #5 in the league and for this team but he is being put in a top 4 position where he doesnt belong. Also i think he is the most paid #5. We need that cap space since we are up against the cap. We should have a cost effective bottom pairing. Greene for 2.5 should be traded as well and we should have Gravel and Forbort along with another low cost ufa for the bottom pairing. We can use Martinez cap space to fill the holes on left wing and 3C.

Who is going to play on the 1st line alongside Kopi next year ?

People want the dark days of the Kings back with prospects handed NHL Jobs I see.

How many cups or playoff wins did that mentality produce ?

Why does everyone misinterpret things ? No one wants prospects , but these players were prospects at one point and we won with them. King , Clifford , Nolan , Martinez .... If we have pieces to replace them with similar skill sets or maybe even higher then why not use the cap space right and keep replacing and move pieces . Look at Chicago , Detroit and others who move on from players whe necessary and replace within so they can use their cap space on super stars. We are a heavy loaded team up front so in order to stay competitive you must control the cap space accordingly and replace them within.

They aren't prospects anymore. They have already "paid their dues" as Kings management likes to say. Nobody is advocating to put the prospects in the NHL immediately. We just want the young guys that are NHL already to be actually considered for an NHL spot. With Sutter as the coach, you don't get that often. Other teams use their youth to fill spots. Sutter uses pressbox guys.

Plus, the dark days wasn't really filled with rookies being inserted into the lineup. Players like Raitis Ivanans, Scott Thornton, Kip Brennan, Ryan Flinn, Sean Avery, Dan Cloutier, John Tripp, Tim Jackman, Matt Ellis, Jon Klemm, Yutaka Fukufuji, Barry Brust, all being in the lineup at various points in the mid to late 2000s, those were dark days.
