I don't think SJ would be really to worried about trading a 1st to the Kings. They knew they only had a couple more years with that group and desperately needed a goalie and Jones was the best available.

Why? That makes no sense. Jones had no value to the Kings. He was not going to sign here as long as Quick was the #1. He could've sat there all summer long waiting for an offer sheet from the Sharks, even if he got traded to another team, and especially if he got traded to a worse team than the Sharks. The Sharks could've, for lack of a better term, just circled the water waiting for the Kings to die.

If Lombardi could've gotten a 1st from the Sharks for Jones, and he didn't, he should not only be fired, but he should quit. And give every Kings fan all of the money that he's made since being the Kings GM.

Only way any of us could've done much better than Lombardi is if we could see the future.

He improved the team short term and it didn't lead to a Stanley cup. Whatever.

I do like the Lucic deal less now, considering Dean had to know he'd be a one year rental.

Boddker, Vanek or Matt Martin... What do you say the chances are of each? Personally, I think they land Vanek on a cheaper, short term contract. Seems to fit the bill for what Dean is lining up for next season. Put him on the top line with Kopitar and see what he can do. Give me Vanek-Kopitar-Gaborik 5 years ago plzzz

This board spouted off continually during the three year run about this, ridiculing the Ducks and any other team with good success but not the ultimate prize.

So who are we? Cup or what's the point or are we now moving away from that?

I don't think I am making it worse than it seems by my original comment. I'm not saying there is inner-turmoil like a Crawford coached, Cloutier in net and Sean Avery roster: just saying it isn't "rosy" if I an borrower a term from the former Captain. I mean, you have Lombardi rambling and questioning everything at the end of the season while grasping at straws all the way until the end to try and bring Lucic back. What are they doing? I'm not entirely sure they have a true plan like when he put this team together.

I completely understand staying at the top is difficult and I don't fault every decision. Just think there is not as much stability as before and the idea of guys wanting to come here because of the culture and winning is overblown because they aren't winning anymore and the "culture" includes multiple arrests, an ugly contract termination and a stripping of the captaincy.

It ain't 2014 anymore, that's for sure. I'm fine with that and I'm not going to try and deny that fact.

during the three year run we were loaded with the talent necessary to win, so it was a more reasonable expectation. obviously winning the cup is the goal every year no matter what, but people have to realize winning it every year isnt going to be possible so they should taper their expectations, especially when the team is in a situation like it is now. teams go through rebuilds and retools, especially after going through unprecedented success. throw in some uncontrollable/unforeseen circumstances like losing your #3 defenseman that was on a sweetheart deal, having your #2 center degenerate into a marginal NHLer and having a few trades backfire, its not surprising that the team isnt winning like they used to. we are going to have a couple off years before the team is rolling again. I think you are right in saying that there is a lack of stability but I cant fault Dean for all of it, hes been dealt some really ****** cards the last few seasons and is trying to make the best of it.. if he is half as smart as I think he is, he will learn and grow as a GM. if not, some people will get their wish and we might have a new GM in the next few seasons. either way, Im at least HOPING that things will get better. its not some blind homer-hope either because Dean has shown that he has what it takes to be a competent and successful GM. maybe its just that its summer time thats driving people on this board crazy but we would all benefit from relaxing a little bit

I will be the first to admit that this team doesnt have as good of a chance to win the cup as they did last year or the year before. this team isnt half as bad as you are making it out to be, but for whatever reason some people on this board LOVE to make things seem worse than they are. for the life of me I cant figure out why. I would say its because we are spoiled by the 2012-2014 run but its been this way as long as I can remember. there are huge differences between being a homer, being what you call a 'realist' and being a Negative Nancy. I understand there are a few problems but at the same time Im not one to wallow, whine or exaggerate said problems. thats the difference. being a hockey fan thats gone to myriad hockey games over the last decade, surely you must understand that winning a cup and staying competitive year in, year out in the cap era is an incredibly hard task. teams that are successful end up paying for that success because their players are rewarded with more money which puts GM's in a tough position to maintain the success. look at Chicago, its a rare feat that they were able to be remain successful after the retools they went through. we are in the middle of a retool now and there was no avoiding it. its just super annoying that people expect a Stanley cup winning team every year. it doesnt work like that

Why are people still suggesting we sign another dman? Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, McNabb, Scuderi, Greene, Gravel, Forbort, Gilbert and Trotman? I don't think we have more room for defensemen.

I think Hamhuis would have been nice, but otherwise a lot of deals today were pretty crazy. I'm not as down on this roster as most, I think Gaborik is going to bounce back somewhat. Possibly Brown, but not holding my breath.

It's going to take a year or two to revamp the roster, which is what I think DL is trying to do. Let guys like Mersch, Gravel, Forbort, Dowd, etc. get some experience. Hopefully Toffoli and Pearson continue to progress. Then bring up a couple guys like Kempe and Amadio to support Kopitar, Doughty, Carter, and Quick for a few more runs.

I also don't think Sutter is as adverse to playing young guys as many think. He had no problem playing King and Nolan when they came up, both were playing better and more confident than what we had. Same with Toffoli and Pearson.

We need a repeat of that from the guys who are next in line.

Because Sutter won't play Gravel and Forbort and everyone else besides Doughty,Muzzin,Martinez is a 6/7th Dman maybe besides Mcnabb . He is a # 5. Lol

kind of wish we let sutter go.....he won't take a risk on youth

That's true, but playing Brown in the top6 most of the year will help the tank. :naughty:

Man... I was hoping there was a chance Lombardi would be able to fill a hole or 2 today. Hopefully he has something up his sleeve still.

How much do Kings have in cap space now? Probably not enough for Boedker or Hudler, eh?

Also, were the Kings not confident in Budaj as a #2? Was the Zatkoff signing necessary?

I was accused of being a negative nancy and possibly not a "real" fan of this team, which is so laughable I don't know where to begin.

I don't look at post count. Could give two ***** about how often someone posts.

The easiest thing to do--on this board at least--is question one's fandom when they say something that isn't positive. Then when it turns out to be true, it is swept under the rug, i.e. Mike Richards. This mindset has led many a strong poster to leave this board since 2012.

Regardless, theMajor made his point that he isn't a homer and I retract my "accusation" as I'm sure he realizes where I am coming from as well; however, lobbing insults at those with a non-complimentary opinion regarding the franchise is much more prevalent than some sort of homer-due-to-post-count accusation.

Vanek.is a Red Wing. Martin signed with the Leafs.

Vanek at 1 year, 2.6m would have been perfect for the Kings.

Who knows though, he may not have wanted to leave the midwest.

More depth signings. Ontario Reign sign Miles Koules to a one-year contract, according to Bob Mckenzie.

Around 4.3 million give or take a little.

The more I look into it and read up on the players and look at their stats not only this year but going through development either in the CHL or AHL I really like the Latta and Trotman signings. Could be underrated signings for actually everyday players. Latta was stuck behind lots of players in Washington but his numbers have been impressive since he was in the OHL and in AHL . Maybe 3C for us ? Lol

Trotman as well he will be a full time NHLer. Has great numbers through college to the AHL and even in the NHL. Just not sure about the Gilbert signing. We have Gravel and Forbort ready let them play and develop god damn it .

Latta hopefully forces Dean to deal King or Clifford or even both.

So the team needed a first line lw,third line C and a number 2 d man and Dean goes dumper diving and doesn't fill any needs but a back up goaltender lol.

You are a good poster, whatever side you take you make quality well informed posts.

And ofcourse you get criticized by people making emojicons replies to your long thought out posts, or covering their ears and yelling "In Dean I Trust" rather than arguing your points.
