I actually hope we miss the playoffs so we get a better draft pick.

I would have been happier if he didnt sign Gilbert or Kept Greene and King around that way i would know Gravel, Forbort , Mersch will be given a chance and actually improve our team. Not go get a bunch of ****ing benders to add to the benders we already have .

If Sutter plays Scuderi , Greene , Gilbert over Gravel and Forbort then i want him fired

Are the Kings going to run with 5 lines? Or are we restocking Ontario?

Without penciling in any of the Ontario kids in the lineup, here's how the depth chart appears as of this minute:

Gaborik-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Shore-Lewis
Clifford-Andreoff-Latta

McNabb-Doughty
Muzzin-Martinez
Forbort-Gilbert

Quick-Zatkoff

Nolan and Greene have been nursing injuries so their status for opening night is undetermined.

Trotman likely makes the team as a 7th dman, and Scuderi will be replacing Schultz in Ontario as the veteran presence in the locker room.

Having said that and looking at that lineup, this team really does need to find another top six forward.

the fact that we are keeping Greene, Scuderi AND signed Gilbert

confirms that DL's masterplan has to be to sit through the season and get a high pick

and start fresh for the 2017-18 season

we haven't replaced Lucic and we haven't found our top 4 D. All the top names have signed already

so this is the only logical explanation because i know DL is a smart man...

It's not a horrible plan to right off this season to retool and get a high draft pick, but at the same time sacrificing prime years of our star players isn't smart and I doubt Sutter would be interested in that plan.

inner-turmoil/bad cap condition? inner turmoil because Brown has fallen off the proverbial cliff and didnt deserve to be a captain? unless you are in the locker room, who are you to say there is inner turmoil? as far as the cap goes, there are PLENTY of other teams in similar or worse situations. sometimes I wonder why some Negative Nancys are even fans with the way they choose to see things. blows my mind

RE: Inner turmoil

What has happened to this team the last two seasons? How is that a stretch? It's not just the Brown situation.

Plenty of other teams are in cap trouble? Great. Does nothing for the LA Kings bad cap position.

Negative Nancy? Try realist. This team will compete as long as 11-8-32 are healthy, but the team is a far cry from 2012-14. Hell, they aren't as strong as '15 or '16 and we saw those results.

The prospects are going to have to be better than expected. Cup contenders don't usually have to rely on that before the season starts.

So does this board still have the "Cup or bust" bravado that was displayed while things were great or is it going to change based on what is being rolled out on the ice at present? If it is the former, then nobody should be happy with the current situation.

I've missed less than 10 home games since 2001. Here we are on this board again with the questioning of someone's fandom because they don't have their lips on DL's ass or blindly believe that everything will be okay. I've paid good money for a lot of bad hockey and I've been fortunate to be present for the "golden age" the last few years: I've seen the highs and the lows.

This current roster is an Andy Murray 9th place special waiting to happen. I'm not going to Vegas to bet on them missing the playoffs but, let's be real here, this is the Kings team with the most question marks on it since 2011. Could break good with the Ontario contingent or it could be a developmental season. The fact remains that if you look at this current roster and think they have a good chance at winning the Cup then you are nothing but a homer. Doesn't mean you are somehow a better fan than those that are not thrilled with the roster as it currently stands.

Here I was hoping for Hamhuis and we get Gilbert, Trotman and Latta? Seriously? I'm glad Latta's a good kid, but we already have 2 4th-line centers in Nick Shore and Nic Dowd and as of now no bottom-6 centers who can score. Are they trying to collect as many 4th liners and 7th defensemen as they can or are we just lucky?

These trades...seriously? Dean Lombardi may have lost his mind.

I've been all on board keeping the powder dry for 73/70 and to see how the expansion draft shakes out. Not worth overpaying for a winger while having issues on D.

The plan won't be to tank so Sutter doesn't matter. He still gets to coach Kopitar/Doughty/Quick and play the first two 25-30 minutes a night and Quick for 80 games.

They will not be close to a Top 5 pick unless injuries hit. They will still compete: just not a legit Cup contender unless the rookies surprise.

Lombardi needs to find out what he has in Gravel and Forbort along with Dowd and Mersch. Better to do that before tossing good money and term at a UFA defenseman. If some of these guys exceed expectations, then you don't need to toss ridiculous money at an overrated guy like Russell or something.

It's just going to be different heading into the season with lowered expectations. Think we can all draw on our pre-2012 experience though to get ready for it :sarcasm:

If DL doesn't make a move it might be time to call up the Futa and "promote" dean

He can't do anything.

Now it is certainly his fault because of the disaster moves the last two years, but it is what it is. Right now we can't make any moves, no matter who the GM is.

Hoping for Boedker on offense as a top sixer or Matt Martin for bottom six. Wisniewski or Demers for defense.
