Maybe Gravel and Dowd are the answers to those questions. What GM is handing out top 4 defensemen? Could the Kings afford over $6m per year for Yandle?

The Kings don't have to be contenders in October. If they don't meet any or all needs in the next week, that's ok. Let the young guys play. See what happens. If the Kings are good, do something by the deadline. If they're not, at least they've got the 2017 1st. They've got until March/April to figure out if they're in a position to win next year.

Maybe Dowd and Gravel are the answers, but that has yet to be seen. They're still young and inexperienced NHL'ers. I wouldn't mind if DL signed a UFA defenseman, but the prices are too high. I've heard Demers wants 5 million, which is laughable for a guy like him, but the demand is there so he'll probably get it. I just have lower expectations for the whole organization in general.

Pearson Kopitar Gaborik
King Carter Toffoli
Mersch Dowd Brown
Clifford Shore Andreoff
Nolan

Doughty Muzzin
Amart Greene
Gravel McNabb
Forbort

Quick
Budaj

Trade King or Clifford or Shore and freaking play Kempe.

Mayor indicates that Kings have interest in Okposo. Not sure what he'd cost but I'd love to have him on the top line with Kopitar and Gaborik.

Might also entice Lewis to come back given how him and Okposo were former teammates at Des Moines.

Do we even want Lewis back? Him and Okposo together would eat way too much cap, more than likely.

Im in love with our 2014 draft and Cernak , Dergachyov and Wagner from 2015.

My dark horse to become quality players for us down the line are Wagner and Brodzinski.

Of course. So were Martinez, Voynov, King, and Nolan in 2012. That's why they don't have to be a ready made contender in October. Feels better with fewer question marks as soon as possible, but, tough to have every base covered all the time.

I just have lower expectations for the whole organization in general.

I think everyone has more questions after the last 2 years. Up to and including Lombardi. I would say it's becoming a little more clear that he doesn't trust this team as much as he did when he took the chance with Richards, or Sekera, or Lucic. Maybe doesn't even trust himself as much.

Maybe the way to go is to not go crazy this summer. The Kings aren't trying to keep up with 2 in 3 anymore. It's 5 playoff games and 1 win in 2 years now.

Agree on the latter. Seems like that was the plan last year as well until DL got a Lucic hard-on.

I bet the idea of moving King was based on Lucic resigning. Now that we have less depth at LW I bet he stays unless DL gets a offer he can't refuse or finds a top line LW.

Mayor probably heard rumblings of King being moved but I bet it hinged on Lucic.

You are correct as Rosen tweeted this

Maybe Vanek can be a stopgap as a lw if he comes cheap?

He's had flashes of his former self last season but he tailed off in the latter portion of the year.

Mayor says the Kings are talking to the Devils. Mentions Larsson, Merril and Severson. I think Severson would be the most likely. Can't see them moving Larsson although he'd be the most ideal

UPDATE: Kings and Devils said to be talking - details added here http://mayorsmanor.com/2016/06/potential-kings-trade-targets-heading-into-draft/ …

Merrill would be funny given Dean's comments about Michigan not developing guys well. Merrill looked great as a freshman but didn't look much better as a junior. Merrill had a solid enough rookie pro campaign but didn't build on that into his 2nd year. Last season he got lost in the shuffle as the new coaching staff was trying to figure out the D pairings.

On the plus side, Merrill is still young and has shown flashes plus he'd be relatively inexpensive. On the down side, he's reaching that point where he's probably close to being what he is.

There's some cagey Devils fans on the main board, taking a page out of Henrique's AMA. Sounds like Devs fans are pretty high on Severson. That's a good sign to me.
