I don't think he is in "no-win" land, but he is in "can-lose" land.

I'm sorry, but the moves have been failures since 2014 and I'm not going to give him some sweetheart pass by saying "he just can't win" when winning is the whole point of his job.

I'm not expecting anything major, which is fine. I think most on here will get on board with that because that is the reality of the Kings current situation.

See scenario 1, which was "people get upset because the team doesn't improve."

No one is asking for a sweetheart pass and I'm not going to again have to explain publicly why I'm not saying "LEAVE DL ALONE" or that he's immune to criticism.

All I'm saying is that every hint at ANY of the scenarios I've listed brings a cavalcade of upset posts, often from the same posters in every scenario, hence why I say he's in a 'can't win' spot with respect to just about any move he makes this summer.

I don't care if people think DL has been godawful since 2014, that's fine even if I disagree, what's annoying to me (partially because it leads to thread cleanup ) is when the same posters in one breath complain about a lack of draft picks/prospects THEN in the next thread complain that we didn't make a trade for x mediocre player., the ones that complain about the cap then are upset that we didn't pursue Yandle, etc.

Gonna bookmark this one for future reference because man, that's just wrong. So he's basically not even an NHLer?

Only if you can't count to 7. On second thought, he lost his spot to Scuderi (with DD) and I think everyone agrees that RS is no longer an NHL caliber player anymore. So I think marginal should cover it.

Please, keep going

I'm not one who revels in "I told you so"s but this just keeps on giving and will be fun to revisit later. Not because I don't like you or anything and I always respect your opinion I just think you're WAY off base here.

"Marginal #7" means you don't think he should be an NHL regular, that's where I got my statement. #7 = he doesn't have a daily spot in an NHL lineup.

Not many goals will be scored in this scenario but it frees up space, retools a bit and rebuilds. It kind of reminds me of 2012 . Focus on defense make the kids swim.

I just don't think you can let Toffoli go. Succeeds in the system and home grown.

LA isn't a bad team. I just want them to trim the fat and bring in youth.

That's a great idea if you want to start rebuilding. Might as well shop Doughty as well since he'll be due for a nice raise as a UFA.

This is a rebuilding year no matter what. The Kings still get back a very good talent who is young and opens up options. First round pick is a great start. Much more options available at wing

With Lucic headed to market, negotiations with Trevor Lewis have picked up. Hockey ops source says they're "ongoing."

What horrible priorities. The Kings should be focusing on resigning Versteeg as the next thing on their list, not Lewis. I get why Sutter likes the guy, but come on. If they shell out $3 million for Lewis, instead using that money on Versteeg, I will officially join the anti-Lombardi bandwagon.

Curious about the Lewis deal because I have to imagine he wants term at this point, he's been on a series of short deals. If it's longer than 2 years, no way he gets more than 2.5, especially given his raw offensive totals

I'd be interested in Toffoli and a mid round pick for Severson and the 11th pick. Toffoli is about to get very expensive.

The only way Toffoli gets traded is if its for a Top 4 defenseman of the likes of Barrie and Trouba, not Severson. Even then, a trade like that would make sense if we resigned Lucic. That option is off the table now (not that other teams would make that trade to begin with).

There is nothing really wrong with the guy as a bottom 6 player.
I think most of the grief he gets is because he was a first round top 20 pick.
So more is/was expected.
As long as they don't overpay there is nothing wrong with keeping him.

The grief revolves around what his probable cap hit would be. I have no issue with him being on the roster: none at all.

Just don't want it for a dime more than his current contract.

Exactly. He is a perfect bottom 6 guy. Plays center and wing. Can move up and down lines. Great penalty killer. Do we think it's a fluke the guy has been voted "unsung hero" by his teammates several years running? Lewis is the kind of player every great team wants on their roster.

Dean just can't help himself.

I'm okay with Lewis coming back so long as it isn't over $2.5M. Guys like him tend to get overpaid in the open market. I'd rather have him in the lineup over a guy like Shore who isn't very good at any particular thing.

I agree.

But I also think if Lewis gets signed, we need to handle some of the other bottom six redundancies as others have pointed out as well.

Every team needs at least 1 hands of stone kind of guy...

Hilarious that some King fans think the Kings might be in re-building mode. Yah, I'm sure Sutter decided to come back so he can coach Kempe or some other rook at #1 LW and Nick Shore and his dreadfully boring game at #3 center and then packaged with Kevin Gravel and his mediocre AHL stats on defense. He's just gonna give them ice time and Dean is gonna sit around and do NOTHING. Cause that's what these 2 guys have done. What organization have you been watching?
