The only way Toffoli gets traded is if its for a Top 4 defenseman of the likes of Barrie and Trouba, not Severson. Even then, a trade like that would make sense if we resigned Lucic. That option is off the table now (not that other teams would make that trade to begin with).

I believe that Severson is indeed a top 4 dman right now with the arrow pointing up. Besides, the trade would include a first rounder and a bit of cap space (substantial space going forward), and flexibility. It's easier to replace a winger than it is a dman.

Do people think Lewis is going to double his current contract? He may, but I think it would be shocking if he did so with the Kings. Loyalty or not. Maybe if he signed for 1 year. I know Lombardi has gone crazy, but come on.

Please, keep going

I'm not one who revels in "I told you so"s but this just keeps on giving and will be fun to revisit later. Not because I don't like you or anything and I always respect your opinion I just think you're WAY off base here.

"Marginal #7" means you don't think he should be an NHL regular, that's where I got my statement. #7 = he doesn't have a daily spot in an NHL lineup.

Nice except I said 6/7. Meaning he is at best the last guy on the ice or in the press box. In any event I have a low opinion of his skill and upside.

It sucks knowing other teams know when to move away from players and replace to keep competing but the Kings dont know as you can see with King , Lewis , Clifford, keeping Richards etc.... Bringing back Scuderi , keeping Greene when u can have an extra 2.5 mil cap space to work with

The guys on NHL radio this morning said the Kings need to go the route of having a bunch of big money top 6, which we have already, but then a bottom 6 of young players making not that much money. Chicago did this last year.

To do this Kings need to let Lewis go, move Brown or lose him in the expansion draft and deal King and Clifford.

Lombardi should be focused on a total make over for the bottom 6. Shore, Dowd, Andreoff, Nolan, Mersch should be the only active players on that roster and then throw in a UFA or Brown/King if they have no choice or option.

Mersch-Shore-Lewis/UFA
Andreoff-Dowd-Nolan

I completely agree. Look at Chicago and Pitt. It's the way of the cap age.

I know the Kings haven't had the greatest results the last few years in certain contexts, but how many other teams is it that know when to move on from players and keep competing?

Chicago doing it since 2010 3 cups, to bad Dean can't let go.

Let Lewis walk, sign or trade for another speedy young winger.

Trade King and Clifford.

Leave Brown exposed next summer.

Waive Scuderi and send to AHL.

Pretty much. Lombardi has to take away the plugs Sutter uses when the top 6 aren't producing. By giving Lewis PP minutes the only thing Sutter is doing is making sure the PP doesn't score. The Top 6 aren't getting punished, the LA Kings are. Lombardi has to remove these players from the roster and replace them with players capable of putting up offense when they are thrown into the fire by a coach who routinely uses the punishment ploy.

Next season if our kids take the expected steps forward our bottom 6 could be pretty productive

Mersch-Amadio-Versteeg/Lewis

Not sure if Kempe is a top 6 or bottom 6 yet...

Pretty much this. As long as those three are on the roster, especially King, they'll get special treatment and see top 6 playing time, no matter how little they produce.

He's got to pull a Billy Beane on Art Howe maneuver on some of the Sutter favorites. You can't play them if they're not on the roster.

You think Lombardi takes a look at Chris Stewart as a cheap replacement for Lucic?

No way , Stewart is lazy and from what I know a head case . We have to many unsure things on our roster already. We just have to accept the fact that Dean and Sutter won't improve our team until they move away from their system. They can't keep playing the same heavy grinding style and expect to succeed against fast and skilled teams.
