Anyway, other then defense, there should be a decent overhaul in the bottom 6.
It wouldn't be smart to invest a lot of money into players that don't have positive offensive abilities... I don't like the idea of Lewis-Shore-King 3rd line. Good teams have solid (nothing amazing expected) support from their third lines...

McNabb plays his best when he simplifies his game. There was a game last year where he stood out and made like 4 important poke checks in one period, all in the defensive zone. He's also good at laying people out. If he works on those 2 things more he could be an effective defenseman. I think he has trouble processing the speed of the game at times, which leads to mistakes. Ideally he plays as a #5-6 and eventually works his way up, but the opposite has happened and everyone's expectations of him are all ****ed up.

Elliott Friedman shared this info about the Lucic negotiations in his 30 thoughts column:

Milan Lucic’s negotiations with the Los Angeles Kings got really ugly. At the end of their season it seemed close, then turned into a 50-car pileup. Among the problems: the Kings, as is their philosophy, were not willing to offer much in the way of no-trade protection.

And they shouldn't have to.

Good riddance. He'll be a shell within three years, just like Richards, Brown, and everyone else.

Lombardi is making the tough, right decision here, but it makes the team worse in the short term. Shame on Lombardi for gambling, again, and losing. One more massive hole to fill now. Top six winger, top four defenseman, third line center. Hello, black hole.

The Mayor has an article up about possible defensemen targets...
what do you think about these players? What would it take to get any of them?

Jake McCabe – Buffalo Sabres
Jamie Oleksiak – Dallas Stars
Griffin Reinhart – Edmonton Oilers (pictured above)
Tyler Wotherspoon – Calgary Flames
Christian Folin – Minnesota Wild Shoots: Right
Mark Pysyk – Buffalo Sabres Shoots: Right

I would want Pysyk and think he would cost the less than Reinhart (because of how much Edmonton paid ot get him, doubt he is actually available)

McNabb isn't Muzzin. His reads (offensively and defensively) aren't even close to the ones of Muzzin who I defended on this site many times...
Frankly, it's laughable to compare the two of them... FWIW, I really liked Gravel and think he could develop into a decent defensmen. Forbort was together with Zykov one of the guys I feel didn't develop much and should be used to acquire better assets to the organization.

Nobody is comparing the two. They are comparing the sensational reactions of fans in regards to each player.

I think DL will turn the corner and become a little more ruthless. Cap world now.

in stead of signing Lucic, the Kings should use the money to resign Tyler Toffoli. And maybe they can sign a guy like Justin Schultz as a free agent.

If that story is true that the Kings were trying to gain an additional 1st round pick last year from Boston and then pulled a 180 and gave up the farm for Lucic, well...that's pretty ****ing sloppy on DLs part. Then to think you can sign an impending UFA at a discount AND without a NMC/NTC?

Reminds me of when I was 19 and my dad, a huge car guy, was buying me a used "SUV", like a late 80s Blazer. He put this Blazer through the 120 point inspection or whatever and was comfortable with the purchase only to get a call about this 1985 Jeep Cherokee while we are on the way to get the Blazer. We get there and it is in better cosmetic condition. My dad was a world-renowned car painter and known for restoring '73 Mustangs so he got excited about how much easier this would be for him to paint. We drive it around one time and he decides to go with the Jeep.

I proceeded to have nothing but problems mechanically with it, plus it actually became more of a pain for him to paint/restore than he thought. I drove around with giant yellow primer spots on this red Cherokee for almost a year. He finally finished it but then I was going to have a longer commute to school so we decided to sell it. He makes the thing sparkle and sells it to my best friend who gets to enjoy this nice, fresh looking car.

Point is: stick to the ****ing plan unless something happens that is just too good. Lucic at that cost was not the that thing, just like that '85 Cherokee. Classic DL loving a player and not being able to help himself.

Oh, and my friend getting the finished product without suffering through it is basically EDM/VAN/CGY getting Lucic for "free". That analogy also works because that friend of mine who got the car was DaDucks.

Looking more and more like standing pat, although if you don't trade roster players for picks today, when do you?

The tweet did say "entrenched" roster players, however. Could see Forbort moved, although moving him for a different AHL/NHL tweener defenseman just seems strange, unless said player is not waiver eligible. Regardless, what a horrible draft pick. Glad I was there in person to see them trade up to take a project instead of Tarasenko or my other choice, Bjugstad.

Needs of the team not being met, mainly the top #4 D and 3C spots. It is still early though. Just not expecting much...

Maybe Gravel and Dowd are the answers to those questions. What GM is handing out top 4 defensemen? Could the Kings afford over $6m per year for Yandle?

The Kings don't have to be contenders in October. If they don't meet any or all needs in the next week, that's ok. Let the young guys play. See what happens. If the Kings are good, do something by the deadline. If they're not, at least they've got the 2017 1st. They've got until March/April to figure out if they're in a position to win next year.

Oh dear, Hopefully he doesn't hold a grudge. The last thing we want is this guy all pissed off, in the division murdering Kopi and co.

Im still hoping King or Clifford is moved. Both are replaceable and slow and have no ****in skill besides maybe holding onto the puck. King is going to walk next year regardless as he is going to be looking for a raise and that would be dumb of us since we have Mersch, Brodzinski, Kempe and others in the Minors.

Clifford getting paid 1.6 for 4th line is the worst. I really think Dean and co thought he would surpass King and hence why they gave King short term n Cliffy long term. But Clifford stagnated and should get moved. Mersch is easily capable of replacing Clifford on the 4th line if not even King on the 3rd.
