It sure looked like Sullivan did not want Puljujarvi to have success, taking any excuse to make his role smaller and smaller, all the way down to AHL. When he played well he was never rewarded with more ice-time or better linemates, and when he played mediocre he was always punished hard. He was not from Boston.
I honestly think the biggest reason that Sullivan didn't like Puljujarvi is he can't pk.

But it's a stupid reason not to like him because with his speed and his stick reach he could have been trained to be a good pker and probably even someone who would be dangerous shorthanded with his speed. The Pens never tried to develop him that way and thus wasted him as a player.

I don’t see us trading Rust or Rakell. You do that and Sid is on an island, and he’ll be sitting on like 9 goals and a -39 rating by this time next year begging for a trade or a rope.

Where do you think he'll sign for next season?

Idea. How bad is Seth Jones, really? Bad bad, or just overpaid a few million. The Pens are going to have loads of cap space, but I'm not sure they'll be able to spend it well in UFA. Marner and Rantanen probably aren't coming to Pittsburgh willingly unless maybe it's on a short term deal with the hopes to cash in on a higher cap later.

What if we dealt Graves to Chicago for Seth Jones? Change of scenery for both. We take on more cap but get a guy who could actually play top four with us.

I'm basically looking for the Pens version of the PLD for Kuemper deal. Take on an overpaid player but dump one that has no future with us for a net win.
Id flip Karlsson for Jones. Karlsson is more easier to trade for immediate assets for them. Pens hope Jones turns it around here. They arent moving Jones for Graves.

Sure, load up on dogshit players with bloated contracts. Seth Jones, Darnell Nurse, Huberdeau, Zadorov. Go nuts. Weaponize the cap space and scoop up the draft capital and young players/prospects.

I like Moore, but we're diluting Rakell's value if Moore is the only piece coming back.

IF we decide to trade him, (and that's a big 'if') Rakell will be returning more than a 1st and Moore, especially this offseason when teams get sticker shock from seeing how much UFAs will be going for.

Vancouver also sold low on Miller, whereas we will be selling high on Rakell.

Nope. While we should be trading away many of the vets, we still need some of them. Trading away all of the vets leaves the prospects with nobody to play with. That's how you become Buffalo.
This team's at least three drafts of tanking away from having, best case scenario, two foundational forwards and a foundational defenseman in their organization and ready to build around them toward competing. Rakell's mentorship doesn't f***ing matter, man. If you need a veteran presence, you can find somebody via trade or in FA. Sid's still gonna be here another two years after this one. Letang through 2027-28, whether we like it or not. And, y'know, maybe this team will have a coach both capable and willing to work with younger guys by then. Probably not, but maybe.

This team's already Buffalo in terms of the standings and recent results. They're about to be three years removed from a playoff appearance. They haven't won a round since 2018. They're just too proud to admit it, accept it, and start building.

Also, Buffalo's run with such incompetence that it feels intentional. I don't think highly of FSG or Dubas at all, but I gotta imagine they have it together more than Pegula and whatever schlub they've got f***ing up in the Sabres' front office at any given time.

Sid said he was cool with a rebuild, so why not give it to him? Worst comes to worst, he Hossa’s himself and does something else for the remainder of the contract.

I think people have a harder time accepting things are done and dusted than the actual players do sometimes. "We need to keep Rakell for his veteran leadership, or Sid's gonna be on an island" I mean, c'mon man. As if this hasn't been a one line team since the B2Bs.
