With Martin we can fulfill Lombardi's dream of icing 3 lines of 3rd and 4th liners. Grind it out in your face hockey.

We have Doughty for a garunteed 3 years until he hits UFA. We should be selling out and going for broke each of these years. Not filling a team full of grinders that can't score

Honestly some days I think Lombardi would be confident going into a game of war with nothing but 2's and 3's in his hands..................still holding out for the Lombardi left field surprise

I'm just saying people are falling very hard into the 'grass is always greener' pit right now.

Business as usual on this board. Jettison every 2 time cup winning player on the team not named Doughty or Kopitar for whatever plug is cut loose by whatever team.

You do realize that the names being discussed to being moved are plugs themselves, don't you?

Seems like not a single critical thing or a counter point can be said without you crying about it.

I guess sticking with the same plan as the past two seasons has worked wonders as well. Just keep burying your head in the sand and ignore the past two seasons ever happened.

While you cling onto 2012 and 2014, what has transpired in 2015 and 2016 is not going to suddenly result in more success in the upcoming year unless some things change.

I mean technically he has to, no? No UFA can officially sign until July 1st, unless you re-sign with team that holds your rights.

Who says he even has to comment? Seems that he went out of his way to say something, when he could have remained silent.

Not saying it won't happen on the first, but i'm inclined to believe that a deal isn't done if someone goes out of their way to refute a report during what is suppose to be a sort of "dead period".

Thank You ! Great post . Exactly this ! Kind of similar to what i been preaching. People seem to bury their heads in the sand little to much nowadays and fail to realize how many teams have more skill and speed in the bottom 6 now rather than bunch of plugs like we do .

Yes we had success but people fail to realize that you let replaceable players go and replace them within or with better options via ufa.

Matt Martin is a penalty machine. Hard pass.

119 PIMs last year with 11 fighting majors. A couple of them had roughings or unsportsmanlikes attached so let's say that makes 60 PIMs.

He also had at least one ten minute misconduct. So now we are at 70 PIMs with ~50 unaccounted for.

Going through the his game log and clicking on the games where he had four or more PIMs and what sticks out is that the majority of them are matching minors for roughing or some other physical penalty. There is also a tripping penalty with less than a minute left in a 4-0 win.

Point being, I don't think he is putting his team down a man as often as you might believe. When he does, it isn't some BS hooking penalty either as it is usually a physical-type penalty.

Nice W-L record in his fights last year too.

I'm fine with the Kings looking at a guy like Matt Martin if it is at a reasonable rate, but you know how UFAs tend to sign for unreasonable amounts and apparently there are some desperate teams out there who will be willing to pay over market value to bring in a tough player of his ilk who can provide some offense while playing a primarily physical role.

What makes Martin an attractive option over a guy like Clifford or Nolan though is his durability. The guy has barely missed any games, which is quite impressive given how physical he is.

Lose King and Nolan and fill in with Martin is fine. I think Martin goes for 3-4 million on the market tho. Can't do it. As is, Kings space is so limited.

Should always be looking to improve.

I don't see anyone wanting to move Carter, Martinez, Quick, Lewis.

Facts are some of the guys who helped the Kings win 2 cups are no longer worth what they are paid. Didn't we learn our lesson from Richards and Greene about keeping gys for sentimental reasons?

How about Jordan Nolan or Brayden McNabb (who took more minor penalties than Martin did last season).

Martin actually committed the same number of minor penalties as Jake Muzzin. So make of what you will with that stat.

Brayden McNabb's constant minor penalties were extremely frustrating last season. And Jake Muzzin has a problem there, too, but he makes up for it in many other areas of the game. And he also plays significantly more than Matt Martin.

I'm not saying penalty differential is the one stat that defines Matt Martin as a player. But it's something worth considering, especially when the player in question is a bottom-six forward.

Do you really want me to sell you on King > Martin? I can do it, it just feels like a waste of breath, because if you really hold that misinformed opinion in just about any way, nothing I can present will change your mind.

Not at all saying 'don't change a thing,' I'm just preaching don't overreact, and I don't want to have to run over what bottom sixers around the league REALLY look like yet again.

Hint: The only teams with 'better' bottom sixers than the Kings are teams that are regularly rotating guys around (i.e. putting top sixers in the bottom six, while moving a guy up--think moving Brown down to move King up).

Not impressed by the options at defense, but one of Ladd, Okposo, or Eriksson would be fine at forward.

First off, I've defended King quite a bit on here, so I don't even know who or what you are mistaking me for. I'm also aware of his deficiencies and how ineffective he can be when he gets away from playing a heavy game, which is exactly what happened to him last season.

And are you not paying attention as to why some of us are keen to the idea of Martin over King? We're not talking about offensive production, we're talking about playing that heavy, hard hitting game that throws opponents for a loop.

Did anyone on the bottom six do that last season? I'm talking about a guy like Tom Wilson who will make opponents be on alert. That's what Matt Martin brings and something that has gotten away from the supposed physical wingers on this team.

Tampa Bay , Florida , Washington, Winnipeg, Isles, Pittsburgh , San Jose , St.Louis just a few teams who have speed and skill in their bottom 6 who actually score goals and have few 35-40 pt players . They are also not a liability getting dangled by and giving up quality chances.

Once you contain our top 2 lines we are done . Im all for being positive but eventually youll change your tune.

You guys think we DL takes a chance on Thomas Vanek on a cheap 1-2 year deal???? Word is with his bought he's likely to get $2-3 million and he did score 18 goals last season for the Wild...

Martin is a slight upgrade over Clifford but will demand more money, I don't get it...

Kings need to move out one of Clifford or King....

Why waste money on Martin when they could after Okposo....

I'm surprised one, if not both, weren't traded at the draft. We needed picks and restock our farm system.

I doubt Vanek due to whatever issues has soured teams on him.

Unless LA moves major salary, I don't see how they compete for the top UFAs. All are looking to cash in.

It sounded like trades not involving picks were hard to come by. That's what worries me, I think teams are being very shrewd about contracts right now.

well put and i agree Martin plays a physical game that is suited for the kings. I think if we get him at 2.5 i would sign him and move out King and Clifford and i am Clifford biggest fan
