19 goals last season, he'd be more than a depth center.
depends if you think he will be able to get 19 again or if it was a one off career year

What about Brandon Pirri? Ducks didn't tender him an offer. He's got speed, has put up decent numbers. Tough luck last year with injuries but might be good fit.
wouldn't mind it.
I like a lot of players who were not qualified, but the issue I have is that although they can improve our bottom 6 where does that leave current bottom six players (king/Clifford/Nolan) and where does that leave AHL players (Mersch/Dowd)
For me I love speed and skill, Pirri over any of King/Cliffy/Nolan is an upgrade. He's a .48 PPg career, and I think if he had Mersch on his wing that would be a an upgrade on the 3rd line. Pirri at 25 is young enough to be a part of the AHL up and comers.
But I don't think Sutter and DL have the same philosophy on that. Depends on what the ' changes' are they DL referenced post season and how they view what a team needs to do in the evolving NHL.
Right now, they need speed and skill , esp on the 3rd line .Look what that did for the Pens...gave matchup issues to most teams coverning them. Not comparing players here, but the general philosophy of turning a grit and grind line into one with more speed and skil that could produce more offense.
I agree but need to find homes for King/Clifford/Nolan as well. I feel like if there was going to be a trade moving one or more of those guys out it would have happened at the draft.

Pirri isn't faster than Clifford. He is a floating goal scorer that is 1 dimensional. He doesn't do well on the boards nor is he defensively responsible. There are too many red flag since Florida gave him away and the ducks didn't qualify him. On top of all that he is injury prone as well.
I would suppose if he was surrounded by Lewis and King they could make up for his shortcomings... But I also don't know if anyone used him at center at the NHL level.
On the other hand, can you let a potential 3rd consecutive season go by, when most of the most important players on this roster are now at a point where they're just another year older, not another year better?

who's to say this core isnt getting better?
they are very much still in their prime
Clifford is a fast 4th liner. Pirri is not. Pirri is a skilled offense producing player, CLifford is not. Criticize him all you want but the fact is , Pirri produces points and has become a better point producer with more NHL experience, minutes and shifts in the last 2 years. Adding him to a 3rd line , and changing it into a faster line that could produce points would be an upgrade. And he's played LW, RW and Center. So he be a good fit with Mersch on that line.
Keep Cliffy and Lewis on the 4th line to be puck possession hogs that keep the puck in the other end. But if the 3rd line isn't upgraded into something that can produce points, the Kings will be playing golf again next April. They are top heavy, the 3rd line needs to produce more points and on a regular basis.
kings don't need brouwer and I hope they stay away from his overrated self. already have brown for that overpaid 35-40 point 3rd line winger that is 50/50 on showing up game to game.
He's not overrated. He's a very good bottom 6 fwd that can fill in for an injured top 6.
In the 2014-15 season, Brandon Pirri had 22 goals and only 2 assists...that is probably the weirdest stat line I have ever seen.
At the right price, I'd love to go after Pirri
If Versteeg didn't work out and isn't being considered as an option to return, I can't see this team having any interest in Pirri.
