Bennett probably gets a two-way contract, his issues have been injuries, and I don't think there should be any guarantee with him being a full-time NHLer unless he proves himself.

Brad Richards as a 3rd C sounds intriguing, given his wealth of experience and ability to play on special teams. If he signs at a bargain price and wants a 3rd Cup, why not? He's not going to put up a ton of points, but at least he's going to bring more to the table than a guy like Nick Shore who is one of the most average players I have laid my eyes on.

I believe even on a 2 way Bennett will require waivers. So if the devils are re-sign him they likely will give a one way to get the hit down.

B Richards intrigues me as well. LA was a rumored spot for him years ago.

After signing a 1 year deal with Chicago for 3.5 last year he was coming off a 51 pt and 37 pt season. This year he put up 28. Im thinking he can be had for about 3 million or less a year on a 2 year contract. Enough time for Amadio or Dergachyovs future to be more certain so Richards would be an ideal stop gap. I know he wants another cup he said it multiple times so hopefully Dean has a talk with him. Shockingly enough he did put up 51 pts 2 years ago.

Devils didnt qualify Beau Bennett very odd move. Kid can play and has lots of skill. I hope Dean pushes hard to sign him. His numbers from every league look pretty good .

It is a bit odd since Bennett/DSP/Merrill's QO weren't huge amounts. But the Devils also didn't qualify Johnny Oduya after his first contract which would have been 660K. They ended up re-signing him for 2 years at 600K.

I don't know if I'd give up $3M for a 36-year old center. I'd go less than that and only for one-year. Remember, 35+ contract.

I feel like we would have an easier time convincing him to take 2.5 a year but with a 2 year insurance contract. My ideal center is Frans Nielson but someone is going to pony up for him. So B.Richards can bring lot to the team. And the veteran presence Dean covets.

I see, but it can definitely backfire if the players don't want to stay in New Jersey. Let's hope Bennet wants to come back home.

Seems like a few teams are penny pinching with some of the QOs. Calgary didn't qualify Joe Colborne but are trying to sign him to a new deal. Boston didn't qualify Brett Connolly who was given a healthy audition with Marchand/Bergeron. Ditto Anaheim with Brandon Pirri. Ottawa didn't seem like they were going to qualify Alex Chiasson, but were able to trade him to Calgary for a depth prospect.

Yup and it gives Dean some options with Pirri or Richards for 3C . Connolly or Bennet for left wing to play alongside Kopitar. Lots of intriguing names out there.

I'm sure they'll all be signed but some quality players there if they make it to free agency.

I'd give Colborne a shot if Cgy doesn't sign him. He could come cheap as a bottom 6 forward.

He wouldn't be a bad option to have as a depth center, given that he won 54.8% of his draws. Compare that to Lewis who only won 40.1% of his draws.

Helps that he can also play wing, though the Kings are a bit full there already with Brown, Lewis, King, Clifford, Andreoff and Nolan, not to mention the competition at camp from Mersch and Auger.

19 goals last season, he'd be more than a depth center.

Flames fans say that Colborne was a winger mostly last season. He also shot 19% last year which is usually a red flag in terms of regressing to the mean. Jiri Hudler potted 31 goals in 2014-15 while shooting 19.6%. This year, he had 16 goals on 14.6%. Similarly, Jason Zucker scored 21 goals (in 51 games) on 16.9% in 2014-15, but fell to 13 goals (in 71 games) on 8.2% this season.

Even the most consistent snipers are usually sitting around 12-14%. Colborne wouldn't be a bad cheap depth pickup, but it might be a little bit much to expect him to repeat 19 goals.

We'd be lucky to get 10 out of him in a kings jersey, but that's more than a lot of our guys produce. He could alternate 3c and w with lewis, decent faceoff ability where lewis struggles.

Wasn't Schultz and Bennett's qualifying offers like really big. Like both of them around $4m. The dudes good but not worth the 4m qualifying offer. Both might be signed in the 2m range.

Schultz's was 3.9 million which everybody figured wasn't going to be qualified. Bennett's QO wasn't too bad at 880K. Devils apparently think they can get him signed for less. Seems like an odd risk to take, but it seems like a deal is expected to be made.

So not qualifying him makes him a UFA instead of a RFA. Doesn't that mean teams can talk to him right now like they are doing with Stamkos. If so, the Kings should be on the phone right now.

He's the Gardena kid right?

Yup.

Another SoCal flop.
Etem, Bennett, Wahl, Blum.
Demko has a chance to be special though.

Still surprised he and others were not tendered. Would love to see the Kings take a look at Smith-Pelley and/or Merrill depending on the cost.

I seriously hope Dean stays away from Bennett. He is made of glass and played scared every time he did get in the lineup.

Richards would be an intriguing option... Can play multiple positions and play the point on the 2nd pp. if he signs a 1 year cheap deal.

And for the love of god please no Pirri.... Lol. He is the anti-Sutter mold. Very 1 dimensional

Most people won't like it but we don't have a lot of open spots. Let the kids fight for a spot and possibly trade king or someone after training camp.

With Colborne it was more fear of arbitration. He would have been given a pretty good salary via arbitration.
