Devils can't really afford to deal Larsson. Nashville could move Jones because they had Josi/Weber/Ekholm. On the surface, Larsson doesn't have impressive offensive numbers. But that's a function of the Devils forwards being awful and Greene/Larsson getting the tougher minutes.

Larsson played 22:30/game last year. I wouldn't feel confident giving a heavier workload to Severson. I hope Beau Bennett doesn't preclude the Devils from looking for more scoring, but it is possible that they have penciled in Palmieri/Bennett/DSP into the top 9 at RW.

What's the deal with Larssons terrible possession numbers?

I'm hoping we can sign B. Richards and Boedker to cap friendly deals short term and watch magic. Richards would be an ideal 3C and I think he wants a shot at a cup and is willing to sign cheap. Boedker has the potential but has been underperforming so maybe a cheap deal can be worked out there too.

Trade King for Folin and Clifford to Montreal for picks. Trade Greene and use the saved cap space for Toffoli and Pearson next year should be enough.

Also pray for Brown to go to Vegas.

Richards 2 years @ 3 million ?

I love toffoli and wat he represents... Still hes a winger, less important than a defencman... Top winger for top d man...

So why would the Devils make the trade?

That's always where it gets tricky thinking about trades as fans. Most of the time, the other team is looking for the exact same thing as you are. Centers and defensemen(top 2 and top 4 especially) are the most valuable, wingers and goalies(of any rank) less so.

Toffoli needs a new contract next summer that will probably take him over $6m, at least. Larsson is signed until 2021 at a little over $4m. Straight up, that never gets done. The Kings would need to add, but not names like Clifford or King.

Yes ur rite, 100%. Sum teams have different needs... And sum teams drool over 30 goal scorers that are in there early 20's.

No question, toffoli has high value.. For sum teams toffoli would b worth more than a larrson.. For others larrson would b worth more...

I wouldnt add anything significant to toffoli in a larsson deal... Max would b forbort...

Other fans would expect to get more with larsson.. Depends who u talk to... Either way i think the value is close..

But not at the expense of a top 4 defensemen in his early 20's. Look at the cascading issues the Kings have faced since Voynov got suspended, and that's with Toffoli getting better. If it was easy to replace Voynov, it would've been done by now.

Again, you'd be asking the Devils to invest a few million more every season after next year for Toffoli than they will be with Larsson. At a position that you even said is less important in the big picture. Forbort isn't going to get that done.

Look what the Devils managed to do last year. They got Palmieri for a couple picks, and he turned into a 30 goal guy. They signed Stempniak on a very cheap contract, and pretty much got back the draft picks at the deadline that they traded for Palmieri. There's no Larsson sitting out there that you can get for cheap.

was away all weekend but I like what the kings did with limited pick at the draft. I was hoping Bleakley would be a king in the 4th round (stupid Blues), and thought that one of clifford or King would have been moved for a pick or picks.

What's the deal with Larssons terrible possession numbers?

Top-pairing minutes/matchups on terrible possession team. Devils got caved in nightly. But Larsson still did several percent better than Greene, his regular partner.

Players playing with Larsson regularly did better with him than away, too. Other than Greene, next most played with d-man was Schelmko--and their numbers SPIKED together in softer matchups.

He's a smooth skating good puck moving damn near elite defensively d-man in a system that just eats shots against.

Speaking of which, Preds just inked Forsberg to 6M x 6 yrs.

His numbers are similar (.73 ppg vs .70 for TT).

I read awhile ago somewhere that TT would be in the 6 yo 6.5 M per range....

Difference is Forsberg doesn't turn 26 until just before the 5th year of his deal, Toffoli will turn 26 after one year on his deal that he will get sometime in the next year. So Nashville bought 4 RFA years, Toffoli only has 1 RFA year left, so in all likelihood his deal will be considerably more.

could also work the other way...Flip already has put up better numbers at a younger age, ceiling is higher.
I know doesn't always work that way, but different ways to skin a cat

Kings need a winger to replace Lucic, not another center (though an upgrade for the #3 C would certainly be nice).

he can play the LW, and that is why it scares me to think he maybe looked at.

He likely will not command the term that was the sticking point with Lucic, but I think will still command a good salary.

Why do I feel like LA will sign Backes...and we will regret it

Sign Backes, trade Gaborik for Nash, , move King and Clifford, ???, profit.

Mersch-Kopitar-XXX
Toffoli-Carter-Pearson
Nash-Backes-Brown
Andreoff-Lewis-Dowd
Shore

Just kidding, the Cap.

New Jersey, Carolina and Arizona are teams that are below the cap floor.

Given that Dustin Brown is as immovable of an object as Andre The Giant, the Kings will probably have to look at one of those teams in order to move Gaborik, and he'd have to be sent there with some sweeteners in order for it to work.

If only it took something as little as Nick Shore in order to get Gaborik packing. Get Toffoli and Pearson re-signed (that would be my top priority) and see what's out there to fill some holes.

Arizona will have no issues getting to the floor with Datsyuk and Pronger on their payroll. Same with New jersey and Savard.

Carolina intrigues me.

Moving Gaborik is the priority for me too.

Interesting....Jon Rosen on the Insider this morning mentioned the Kings going after Okposo. He isn't one to throw around rumors lightly. I straight out asked him if it was possible with their cap situation and he said yes, it was possible.
