I keep dreaming. I keep dreaming that Stamkos wants a virtual guarantee Cup situation. I keep dreaming that, in order to do so, he signs a league-minimum, 3-year deal with the Kings. Hey, I can dream, can't I?
Can Stamkos play D?

I'd order your Kings #91 Stamkos jersey now just to be safe.
Which is why I have even less hope for the upcoming season than I did for last year. Offense gets worse with Lucic walking (not that I wanted to sign him for what he was asking), no help whatsoever on D. Yeah, we're pretty much screwed.
Since teams are able to talk to UFA's earlier you think come July 1st they'll just be a crap ton of signings right away?
Thats fine, the kings are willing to do $6 on a short term contract so Ericsson might be an option 3x6 is probably being dangled as we speak...
Why would Eriksson take a 3 year deal though? He'll easily get a 6x6 from someone like Vancouver.
Aren't there always a lot of signings day 1 of free agency? Seems like 75% of the players sign on the first day.
The looming expansion draft is a bit of a buzzkill on the market right now.
to win a cup maybe? cash in more on next contract if cap goes up ?
And turn down $18 million guaranteed? He just came off a great year. Who knows where his game will be in 3 years when he's 33. Especially since he has a problem with concussions.
How much money does one man need? A cup and winning is sometimes worth more than losing and bit more money

Who knows but how many of these guys in their prime take discounted contracts in free agency? And it's not losing a "bit" more money. $18 million is a lot more than a "bit."
A Cup isn't guaranteed.
Top UFA's are getting term and trade clauses, talk of 3 and 4 year deals is fantasyland
i'm talking years not money going down There would be another contract after this one so you're not talking about losing 18 million it would be more like 3-4 million I don't see a lot of contenders with a lot of space left It all depends if u want to win or not
The risk of injury, and/or declining play are major factors for a player. Players want term because it's a guarantee, something that might not be there in a hypothetical additional contract.
true i ment shot at the cup Let's face it signing with vancouver no chance of one.
Signing cheap shorter contracts have happens i believe selanne and Kayria did it for the avs
At the same time, you don't get to and succeed in the NHL without having confidence in your own ability. I would guess that the vast majority of players think that any team they're on will be better because they're there.
Plus a guy like Ericsson still has time on his side. Not to make as much money as possible, but to potentially win. Sign one last big contract, maybe don't win the Cup in that time, but if you luck out at the age of 36 and you're still able to compete at an NHL level, then you can hook on with a contender for cheap.
The Kings have fewer playoff wins than the Canucks over the last 2 years. That's why you take the money if they're giving it to you, and worry about whatever comes later after that.
And what happened to that super team in Colorado?
