I wonder if Dean can make a deal with Vegas and let them choose between Dowd and McNabb/Forbort if they also take Gaborik.

So per rosen, McNabb is collarbone, and Gaborik, Andreoff, and McNabb are all "December guys." Man, what happened to Andreoff?!?

One thing I was thinking about today is that Dustin Brown has a limited ntc on his contract, which may allow him to block being drafted by Las Vegas, and force the Kings to make him one of the protected players.

Is that correct or am I reading that wrong?

That's been my assumption all along, but given no one seems to know the true nature of his ntc/nmc, we likely won't know until the draft.

Thanks!

Teams will be required to protect any contracted players with no move clauses (NMCs) with one of the team's slots for protected players, unless the contract expires on July 1, 2017, in which case the NMC would be considered void for the draft.[8][9] Players whose NMCs have limited no trade clauses must still be protected, and any players with NMCs would be able to waive the clause and become eligible for the expansion draft.[8]

If I were Dean I would probably expose Gaborik but not bribe them to take him. If he looks good by the end of the season they could well take him anyway. Vegas is not Winnipeg or Calgary where you're the only game in town. They will be desperate to find players that can score and entertain. Remember they could end up with a roster of unproven prospects and bottom sixers that put everyone to sleep.

Of course Nic Dowd has been one of the most impressive players this year. Same with McNabb.

Andreoff was playing well and same with Forbort.

I hope Lombardi and Sutter see a pattern here.

They can sign free agents though 48 hours before anyone else. Who knows, maybe they offer Burns $9 million a season to play for them.

Unlikely they get free agents to sign there. Why would Burns want to play for a team that will suck for years? I also don't believe Vegas will throw offer sheets at RFA's. They probably won't want to piss GM's off coming right out of the gate. They will probably need to trade a lot right after the draft.

Just using him as an example but maybe guys just want money.

its not offer sheets like other teams The way lebrun made it sound like rfa would be treated like ufas. If they sign one it would count as the teams choice and we would get nothing

Kings should dump Greene, King, Brown and just surround Kopitar, Carter, Pearson and Toffoli will all young players. Same on the backend, which is happening anyways because of injuries and salary camp...Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, McNabb, Gravel, Forbort and McDermand....forget Gilbert and Greene...

Why Gilbert? He has played well. Muzzin/Doughty, Martinez/Gravel, Forbort/Gilbert is how it should be when Gilbert returns from suspension.

Before the season started, I think we can all agree that one of our biggest needs for a top 4 defenseman. Some even proposed trading Pearson or Toffoli for a top 4 (we can debate that till the cows come home, but I think there were fair arguments on both sides). Having seen what we have so far (assuming all healthy), I think we are pretty set in that department. Our biggest need is adding a skilled winger to play with Kopitar or Carter.

Thanks!

If Brown needs to be protected and won't waive his limited NMC then he needs to be bought out.

what worries me is they could sign toffoli or pearson.

Vegas can't take players that will be protected. Pearson/Toffoli WILL be protected.

I don't know why any existing team would agree to anything like that. Unless it's after the protected lists come out, and all the teams can keep the guys they want to keep, and if any remianing unprotected RFA's sign with Vegas, then it clears a roster spot and potential cap space. That could makes sense. Otherwise teams will be desperate to sign their RFA's leading up to the expansion draft, which could force teams to spend more than they want, and especially when you're talking about how teams have to stay under a certain level for the cap even in future years. That would be chaos.

So do you really think TT or Pearson won't be protected. Vegas will not be able to do anything with the players protected.
