Well any problems that this team has really do not land with the goaltending or the defense. Our backup has played very good and our defense for the most part has been good while bringing a couple young guys into the mix (with both looking very good). The thing needed more than anything is still top 6 wingers/some skill to play along Kopi. We would be screwed if Carter wasn't a stud.

I love it! A shutout against a non playoff team (NSH ) and the defense & goal are perfect! Budaj has played great for a backup, but can and does **** the bed quite often.

The D is an issue. Muzzin is playing like ****, and he's forcing either Martinez to play his off side or Greene to the second pair. If he was playing well you could justify moving Martinez to his off side. Just a square peg in a round hole.

Edit: It would fix everything if Greene could be a second pair guy. What are the chances of that working?

I agree Muzzin is playing awful but hopefully last night was a step in the right direction. Him and A-Mart were a +4 and although I do not put a lot of stock into +/- that has to be a good sign.

There is zero chance of Greene being a second pair guy, at this point it is a stretch calling him a third pair guy.

Muzzin has had a rough season so far but there is no way I would be getting rid of him. Really feel like Dean has to do everything he can to keep these guys on the team next year, including trading other assets to Vegas to get them to take someone like McNabb:

Kopitar
Carter
Toffoli
Pearson
Dowd

Doughty
Muzzin
Martinez
Forbort

We've finally filled the vacant holes left by Voynov and Stoll (from when he was good). Would suck to lose any of these guys and take another step back with the clock ticking on our core.

Sick of seeing Lewis on Kopi's wing. Kempe looks like he took a step back. Brodzinski may make the jump but I've seen to many AHL scorers on the Kings not translate. I'd move Muzzin for a scorer on a relatively equal contract if possible.

Lewis plays with Dowd and just take a look how much it effects team when you start moving good defencemen in Dallas. Dont touch Defence.

This. I wouldn't trade a top 4 defenseman for a winger unless that winger was Patrick Kane, and even then, it would be tough. Your top 4 D are out there pretty much 75-80% of the game, you can't afford to have a hole there and be serious about contending.

Doughty Amart
Gravel Forbort
Greene LaDue
???

If LA really is Lucky, Vegas won't take McNabb/Forbort. Maybe LA sends a pick their way.

I like Muzzin but the bigger hole is up front. I only trade him for something significant tho.

A-Mart has never played well with Doughty, they don't mesh well.

People writing LaDue into any line-up spot, are making a mistake (LaDue so far, has been an average, (hot/cold) AHL player).

One of Dowd/Forbort/McNabb will be chosen, you keep Muzzin.

Just a list of available players, not locked into slots.

You may be right about LaDue. He looked good in preseason but that doesn't account for much.

Please elaborate.

Are we just going to ignore the part where up until this stretch of hot play we were getting league 2nd-worst goaltending? Especially earlier in the year where we couldn't buy a save and no regulation wins? Those games where the opponent scored softies to tie it up (Dallas first game), those games where backbreaking goals were scored easily (Wild, for example) to deflate the team?

Because I'm imagining you're about to cite Budaj's overall save percentage, which is heavily pumped lately. Even aside from that, it was clear, earlier, we needed better goaltending. We're getting it now, and look at the results.

I could break it down by wins and losses too if you like. And then do that for Quick. But I think it was pretty clear by the stats and the eye test when were weren't getting the goaltending and how it was influencing the record and the team.

there is an interesting trade proposal on main board, Landeskog for Muzzin with minor tweaks, Colorado fans seem to like it
What do you think ?

The proposal isn't horrible, but I don't think it helps us. There is value there, but losing Muzzin would be devastating for our defense despite what some of his recent critics would think. Muzzin and his contract are just imperative to this team's success now and in the near future. If we hope to win another cup in the next three seasons, Muzzin is a key piece for us to hang onto no matter what.

The compounding problem is that it would force us to protect additional forwards...so we'd lose Muzzin now and one of Mcnabb/Forbort after the season.

Kopitar
Carter
Duchene

As center depth would entice me.

Landeskog could be that missing winger to replace Lucic.

If LA could work something out with Vegas as protection against nabbing a dman, (First in a weak draft) They would look pretty impressive.

At this point, as much as I like Dowd, he is preferable to lose over the dmen if center could be upgraded with the likes of Duchene.

There are quite a few dmen available to Vegas too, maybe they look up front.

Freaking Expansion!

Adding a guy like Landeskog would be huge. He just recently turned 24, and has always been a 50+ point LW and never has scored less than 20 goals (with the exception being his sophomore season when he was injured and only appeared in 36 games).

He's struggling this season, but given his age and captaincy status, I'd be surprised if Colorado moved him. Then again, who knows just how desperate and stupid they are at this point. Seems like that organization has been in disarray since Roy unexpectedly departed.

I've been hearing and reading about his being moved for awhile, but recently that has picked up a lot of heat. I posted an article in the Around the League thread yesterday, from the Denver Post which has some good points in it. This team is failing and I'd not be surprised to see Sakic go as well. Great player, mediocre GM whose made some awful moves. When he took over, they were stocked at center with ROR, Stasney and Duchene. Should have been a bright future and he fizzled there. Drafted too many forwards, neglected the back end.

For MacKinnon to make comments this week saying the team has no chemistry, etc. speaks volumes. Basically MacKinnon was the only untradeable player. Duchene and Landeskog would net them a good return. I love Landeskog's game and without the burden and pressure of wearing the C on team that fails, he'd be allowed to be a skilled winger would be a lot freer.

If the Habs were smart, they'd trade for Duchene, any team (IMO) who is serious about a deep run to the SCF needs a top center. He'd fill the bill there. One of the Canadian media guys on a podcast where this came up, said he heard Columbus is calling and putting a full court press for Duchene.
But the winds of change are coming...

Colorado was a mess even back in the Sherman day. They haven't had a good GM since Pierre Lacroix, who won 2 cups.

Let's not forget this trade by Sherman...

Colorado trades:
2010 2nd round pick (#47-Tyler Toffoli)
to Kings for:
2010 2nd round pick (#49-Calvin Pickard)
2010 4th round pick (#109-Alex Theriau)

Francois Giguere made some bad trades too...acqured Matt Hendricks for Johnny Boychuk? Though, he did get a lot a picks from the Kings, Blue Jackets, and Ducks for guys like Brad Richardson, George Parros and Adam Foote.

I honestly think the Chris Stewart for Erik Johnson was the trade that changed that team. Though, Chris Stewart never amounted to much after a few good years in St. Louis, some of the other parts like draft picks and a player named Kevin Shattenkirk really changed that deal. The Av's received a first rounder who they used to select, Duncan Siemens, and the Blues received a 2nd, Ty Rattie.

The team was never the same after that. Not that is was a terrible deal, but they really had depth and a balance and they gave up a lot for EJ.

When you said "stats say otherwise" I thought you were going to bring up some sort of advanced stats to support your argument.

You can't discount the recent play play of Budaj. You have to factor in all of his play.

If Quick had been healthy all year, Zatkoff would have never got any starts. For sure, we'd have a few more wins right now, but I don't consider that a huge difference. The Kings' team GAA right now is 2.38 compared to 2.34 last year. The bigger difference is in the Kings goal scoring which has dropped from 2.72 last year to 2.53 this year.

I love Quick.
