Nolan makes the most sense.

Trading Shore leaves a hole at the 4C spot. Trading King means you would need to call up Mersch, which doesn't solve the roster issue. And Purcell is a guy who's scored 13 or 16 goals last season. As desperate as we are for offense, it seems crazy to move a guy like that (despite his struggles) in favor of someone who I don't think has scored 13 goals in his career. Plus Clifford and Andreoff already provide a similar role to Nolan.

Also, there's a decent chance Nolan clears. So he can still be in orgnazation if he's needed later on in the season.

They could still trade a guy like King for a pick/prospect and call up Mersch. But LA being over the roster limit doesn't force the move happen, so there's no need to make the move at the moment, imo.

Gaborik plays both lw and rw So both Purcell and king can go easy

left wing
gaborik
Pearson
brown
clifford
easy peasy king leaves

I'm all for moving King. Just don't think the over roster limit issue makes it necessary. Just move the weakest link. Which imo is Nolan.

nolan is used to coming off the bench and makes next to nothing cap wise. King makes almost 2 million This team needs cap space for a deadline deal or extending toffoli and pearson Either way it makes king the most expendable. Also nolan won't get you anything King should get a 2nd and 3rd imo

You waive Purcell, the guy is not an NHL player anymore. Can't trade him, he is a 1.6M anchor.

For all the blather you guys do about wanting speed/skill/youth, Purcell lacks all of that.

Save 900k, waive the guy,

Out of Purcell, Nolan, and King, at least one of those guys should be replaced by youth from Ontario. Kempe/Brodz/Mersch should all be next in line to get a call up.

I don't think any of them are ready for call-ups. Mersch is strictly a PP player at this point, way too slow for transition play in the NHL.

Kempe needs the whole year in the AHL to develop some consistency.

Brodz, needs some more time as well.

The only person right now lighting the AHL on fire for the Kings is Mike Amadio, six points in last five games, but he needs more time as well(First year pro).

If Amadio and Kempe turn out the way we think and hope they can.....well we will have a team with 4 legit playmaking Centers and a young, mobile defense that could be as dominant as the Willie led unit...

you can't though unless you waive two. Once Gaborik and AA are back at least on will be gone as is. I would be satisfied with Purcell or Nolan being that one. Lately I would be more inclined to keep Nolan

Kind of a logjam atm, but I wonder if Justin Auger will ever earn a shot at the bottom 6. Essentially try to have him become the new Dwight King.

I would love to see him with Dowd and Brown. Good defensive player and seems to show up in the playoffs.

The only problem is Kempe/Brodz both need at least this year in the A to be close. To me the only guy close on your list is Mersch

Yeah but the problem with Mersch is that he's probably too slow for the big league, which is a shame because he could be like a Lucic (very) light if he could skate well.

i ve seen mersch skate and he's not slower than king In fact i would say mersch would beat him in a race. Mersch's skating isn't as bad as people are making out.

I don't think Mersch is that slow eitther. He's no speed demon. But he's a fast as King is, imo. What I think Mersch has great speed at is with his feet (if that makes sense). He's great at creating space in front of and behind the net by using his foot speed. That along with his ability to tip pucks and get rebounds is why I think he is/will be a better option then King. King is superior in the corners then Mersch is. But I'd ultimately go with Mersch over King.

It's not Mersch's foot speed, it's his lack of playing pace. He is a slow transition player.

It takes Mersch too long to get where he needs to be, by the time he is there, the play is going the other way.

He is slow in transition for an AHL player as well, Mersch is a great PP specialist though.

I would wager he is still stuck in the AHL because, the Kings development staff notices the same thing with his transition play.

You can be slow footed but play fast. Mersch hasn't figured out how to speed up his game yet though. It's probably why he remains in the AHL.

Kings have to make a decision on Mersch, his contract is up after the season.

He will be 25 years old(next October), and a RFA. Mersch will differently want a legit shot at an NHL roster spot, if he scores 20+ goals again in the AHL.

If King prices himself out of LA(King is a UFA), Mersch/Auger/Brodz could be cheaper replacements.

how are the kings supposed to get a indication on if mersch is ready to play at nhl speed unless they try it. He would help our crappy pp if nothing else. All he would need to do to speed up his transition game is cheat to the offensive zone like king does It would make up for the speed in the same way king does Problem solved

We'll see. I haven't caught any Reign games this year, but last year Mersch was a real man amongst boys in the AHL. Dominating possession player. Not fast no, but he was in the right spots and had the puck on his stick more often than not. Controlled the pace of play...from the wing. Which is really really hard to do. I honestly thought it was a no brainer he would start this year with the Kings.

I have seen a handful of games this year and it is the same this year as you have stated from last year. He is very much deserving of a call up and a decent shot at making the nhl this year.

Mersch had his shot last year and camp this year. they kept Andreoff and King both on the roster and added setoguchi for the right where he wasn't able to convert to. they didn't call him up when andreoff was hurt. square peg, circle hole situation with Mersch he's not cut for the top 6 in the NHL and the kings are full of better options.

kempe, auger, brodzinski come on down.
