lol eklunds at it again saying we have interest in dougie Hamiliton How we would fit him in is something i would like to know ? also what we would give up But for giggles would he fit here ignore the cap for a moment

Browsing Lewis' stats 2 things I found shocking:1-he was drafted in the 1st round. Who was the scout and when was he fired? 2-Lewis has 1 power play point in his career. In 2012-2013 he averaged an amazing 1:07 on the PP, proving Sutter loves Lewis and love is blind. For this season Lewis is averaging :05 on the PP but that's about to go up apparently.

It was 48 seconds on average that year, which was 10th for forwards, and 14th overall, although Gagne and Toffoli only played 11 and 10 games in the regular season. Martinez and Penner missed some games too. Looks like Lewis was thrown out there as one of the last resorts.

not only that but it would heavily impact who gets protected in the draft. just dont see it happening unless a dman is going the other way. I really like what Im seeing in Forbort and Gravel anyway, do not want Hamilton at his cap hit

I don't like him but he, on paper, fills the Voynov hole.

There is not much you can do, with Gabo/Kopitar/Quick injured.

Not even sure Gabo is a top end player anymore. The guy has 12 goals in his last 50+ NHL games.

It's like the young player myth, never dies.

Trevor Lewis playing all this PP and top six time, is just that, a myth.

The guy has spent the vast majority, like 95%+ of his time, as a bottom six player.

I had low expectations coming into this year, but...

This team has had every excuse to just lay down and die, and they aren't. The young guys are showing inexperience, but they are still playing pretty darn well. It sounds cliche, but this team is building character.

If they can hang in there until guys get healthy, they could go far. Don't underestimate a battle hardened team.

You're right, it doesn't happen that much, but when Lewis gets put in the shootout, criticism is deserved. I'd argue loud criticism so it doesn't happen again.

Also Lewis should never be in the top6. We know he can't finish. It is known. Putting Lewis in the top6 is effectively shutting down one of the lines. Just about anyone would be better, even if their skill is just driving the net and creating havoc.

I disagree. Pens showed us last year that you don't have to have the perfect goalie or defense if you can put enough up ice pressure to back the other team off and use your forwards to shelter the D. That will not work in Kings style hockey. That will not work for Sutter. For Sutter to win the D has to play perfect. It's asking a lot and probably too much from guys like Gavel/Forbort.

Besides Kings can't even beat the Ducks or Sharks at this point (look at the record over the last year) so how do they get out of the division? Oh yeah that's right wildcard to the central division.

The Pens last year were around .500 at Christmas, they were scuffling and dealing with injuries to various guys. That's more what I'm talking about.

Oh, and your description of the Penguins sounds eerily similiar to 2014 when the Kings did just that and won by outscoring their opponents rather than out defensing them ;)

People forget real fast how awful the Pens played for about three+ months last season.

They were a mess all the way up until Jan/Feb, where Crosby started to put the team on his back.

Do coaches listen to fans?

We also know that Lewis is used to prove a point. He's the guy every coach loves. He goes out there, does what the coach says, and then comes back and does it again the next day. If Lewis is playing more than you in the top 6, or hell even the top 9, you're not doing your job well enough.

Almost exactly what I posted right now in the GDT. I'm kind of impressed and hopeful at this point, especially seeing guys like Forbort and Dowd excel in pressure situations.

No the coach does not listen to the fans. He does however start to realize when the Kings fans are pissed off in large numbers. They're still selling a product and can't anger their base supporters. I'd say this is generally the reason coaches get fired. It makes the product look bad and is hard to sell.

That's not true about Lewis playing in the top6 either. You'd like it to be true, but fact of the matter is Sutter will throw guys like Brown/Lewis in the top 6 even if they're struggling.

That was largely due to a new coach, new system and getting Haglin and Bonino to create a speed 3rd that caused matchup issues. He began playing like Crosby again because of that.
Had none of that happened, they would not have gone deep if they did make the playoffs.

2014 was the year they won the Jennings? Just curious. Still had Voynov, Mitchell, Regehr. The defense was a lot better then it is right now. That team was still built on defense first.

I am surprised that they are still in the mix. I still am doubtful about their chances but given all that has happened, things could be worse. Gotta win those head to head games against SJ, Anh, and Edm, tho.

No, they didn't and no professional would ever do that. Losing key players happens to every team and you don't use excuses or lay down and die. If you do, shame on management for putting together a team w/o leadership. Most NHL players have a lot of pride, and that is not something any of them would do.
That's what caused PK to be traded . Price went down and the whole team fell off a cliff, he and Patches, did nothing to inspire, or motivate that team, rather just the opposite. And Weber is a huge loss forthe Preds, in more ways then one.

Didn't see them going far even with Quick healthy, not with the system they play. It's just too hard over 82 when you are competing with too many teams with speed. Esp breaking in new d (and I like Forbert and Gravel, and look forward to LaDue next year).
They are a good team, and on most nights, put a pound of sweat in most shifts. But you need more than character and grit to win, esp over a grueling NHL season.

Lombardi, like most GM's, makes the call , it's what they do. He makes calls on players that Eklund doesn't know about or pass along because his sources didn't hear that.
Most GM's make calls that lead nowhere, but if you hear a player might be on the market, it doesn't hurt to make the call.

Hamilton's shrugging and so is the team. He's only 23 and I don't see why the Flames would trade him because he's had a tough start. Unless they are getting another young high end d in return.

Coaches mostly get fired when they lose more than they win. If a team wins, how a coach does it doesn't really matter, does it? The Kings went 6 games back in Jan/Feb of 2014 when they scored 3 total goals, all by Kopitar. Then they won the Cup that year.

Yeah, but it's not about Lewis or Brown. It's about the other guys that are supposed to be producing in the top 6. Well Brown is being paid to produce in the top 6, but Lewis is a barometer for how things are going for the team. If he's with Kopitar or Carter, then someone somewhere isn't scoring. I know what you're thinking, and no, it's not Lewis. Lewis is the constant in a sea of variables.

You should be surprised until you take a look at the Pacific Division and how awful it is. We're almost 20% through the season and the division is a collective -40 in goals differential.

What's up with San Jose? They're the only team I consider a serious contender in the Pacific. They just bored with the regular season knowing what they did last year? Or was last year a mirage (hard for me to believe that given their roster)?

Before the season started, I had zero expectations for this team. Now, I am actually very impressed in the .500 play with all of these injuries; definitely not in the doom and gloom crowd here.

With Gaborik out, and now Kopitar, we are essentially missing our entire first line. With those two back, it will provide our team a whole new look. In addition, we now finally have a solid third line center in Dowd, and a scoring third line with Brown finding his game again with Dowd and Seto. Finally, our defensive pairings look a whole lot better than last year. In the last six games, Fobert has been on the ice for only one goal. He is controlled, great at the break out plays, and very physical. He might just be our Voynov replacement. Add in the good play of Gilbert and Gravel, and if Martinez and Muzzin get out of their poor playing funk these last few games, our pairings look solid.

Once the team is fully healed, and a possible acquisition at the trade deadline (hopefully a scoring winger), this team will be competitive to make and do well in the playoffs.
