They're not trading Beck for Cozens.

Plus the reports around Montreal are basically they got in the discussion but there isn't really a fit for what the Sabres want, which is a mix of young roster players and futures and it seems Detroit is really leading the charge.

Hasn't Hughes really run a tight ship thus far and thus we wouldn't actually know?

I've learned a lot with guys like Beck over the years. They almost never reach that high end potential and it takes them a long time if they do. You can apply that to both Danault and Evans. Lehkonen is another. These are names we are picking that reach or come close to reaching their ceiling level. But then you can look at guys like Poehling. It's too easy today to say Beck is "way better" than Poehling pre NHL. Both were B+ guys with decent potential pre NHL.

I see what you see in Beck but if you that kind of hope in Beck, you should also have it with Cozens. Pumping Beck and deflating Cozens is evident here.
I just like Beck , for reasons given, but am no talent evaluator. I think Dach and Cozens are kind of similar. I pointed out Cozens' best year was a bit boosted by an above average shooting % and that's just a fact.

I'm just not interested in moving Beck for Cozens. Could I be wrong ? Yup, for sure. I mean who the heck am I ? I'm not going to die on that hill. Just my 2 cents.

It's all good. None of us know the future with all 3... Dach, Cozens, and Beck. All we can do is take our best guess at what we see today. At the end of the day, these are secondary core parts.

Beck looks to be much further ahead of where Evans was at the same age.
He is and when his coach says he can play with anyone you can't get a higher compliment than that for a rookie center iceman. I like the fact that he steps in and plays a wing like he's done it his entire life.
Something Kapanen struggled with and which ultimately got him send home.

Beck has impressed me the last couple of games. It would be nice to keep him around for a while but with Heineman likely back after the break he will probably go back down. He could add some life to Dach's game along with Newhook. He plays with a lot of energy. Too early to tell where he will end up but he looks like a keeper. Looks like a largers isze Gallagher.

No Cozens not for me. Had one outliner year with huge contract. It's going to be another mistake. I'm tired of bringing in somebody's problem child.

I'm not keen on him, or Casey Mittlestadt that's now being thrown around. I'd rather ride it out to the summer and then address the C issue if Dach hasn't picked it up. I mean unless an opportunity pops up.

Beck is not the same type of player as Gallagher. He’s bigger, faster and plays a much more dynamic game than Gallagher. The team already has a larger sized replacement for Gallagher in Laval: Davidson, who should be pushing for place on the team as early as next fall.

I will agree with that for sure but maybe Beck gets to Evan's level (what we see today) a few years earlier. Age 25 vs 28 for example?

We will see... Beck is going to start out from the bottom and work hard to move up. Like Suzuki did. Suzuki started 4th line RW in the NHL... didn't last long.

Would you say Beck is a Suzuki light type? Smart like Suzuki and a true type center but not as much offense? If not Suzuki, who would you compare him to?

I never thought of it that way but your characterization of Beck as being Suzuki- light may be spot on. I think at the same stage of their respective developments, Beck has an edge on Suzuki: Beck’s faster and stronger. But Suzuki did pick up that extra gear that allowed him to evolve into a number 1 center in the NHL. Suzuki is also one of the smartest players on the team, if not in the league. Will Beck ever be able to match Suzuki’s production? That’s a bit of a reach as of now. But this kid is sure-fire NHLer whose skills and effectiveness will only grow in the future.

Beck is definitely smart but I don't think he has the execution tools of Suzuki in stickhandling and passing. I think he is Danault but more physical , with at least the same skill set, maybe better but that's TBD. So I think he is a guy who could be defensively very good and annoying to play against who could also score 20 goals and 50-60 points if all goes well. And great at face offs.

Seems like we have more hope in Beck reaching 2C levels than we did with Poehling (pre NHL)? Valid hope or a reach? I guess we are going to have to let Beck show us what he is made out of.

Definitely a NHL player. Just not sure where he maxes out at. Suzuki-Light or Danault ish might be the right labeling for what we see today

Dach isn't playing the role of a center so how can we assume he'll be fine as a center. We have come to the point in the season where answering questions for next year is the most important thing we can work on now.
Number one top of the agenda is fixing our hole at 2C not RD which so many people are speculating on.

Personally I think Dach is a winger but if we are to find out if he can play 2C he has to play 2C not this hybrid shit we are seeing. That means Heineman up and Newhook down so there can be no confusion as to who's role it is. If not then put him on Suzuki's RW and see if we can salvage the last part of his season some how.
Slaf can put on his big boy shoes and go try to drive another line and work his way back up.

You have the TDL that may change the roster also. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still with the club or back with the club before it closes.
