I wanted Kempe and LaDue on this team.

LA will have to add youth by next season and trim some fat.

I'd be surprised if LA gets in the playoffs at all honestly. Kopi, Quick, and Doughty all need career years and to stay healthy.

Never want to see another let down like last season again.

Kempe isn't ready. He would likely drive DS nuts with inconsistent play. Let him excel in Ontario to see if he can be more than the next Craig Johnson or Brad Richarson.

The Kings will need to see what they have with Gilbert before throwing LaDue to the wolves -- a guy with zippo pro experience.

I'm not expecting much from the opening day lineup so I think they should have great opportunities to force their way onto the team.

Lots of questions but I think this could be good team. Decent chance that some of that depth puts in good seasons (contracts don't you know) and if not we now have 2 or 3 young guys to be mid or late season call-ups.

That's what you want. Guys working hard to prove they should still be here and young guys moving on the wings.

Grats on Forbort and Dowd, they both had good camps, they earned a shot at a regular lineup spot.

Kempe/LaDue both also played well, but they are better suited for the AHL playing big minutes. They will get their shot soon enough.

Mersch still is a really slow transition player, his skating looks better, but he is still way too slow in transition. Not sure how he resolves that.

Greene, fully healthy, was always going to make the team as a bottom pairing guy.

Lombardi was not ever going to deal someone like Clifford/King, just so an AHL player could have a shot. You guys should know this by now.

but Ziggy Stardust promised me Greene wouldn't be on the opening night roster and i didn't put in a bet like i should have

all this is just terrible

Had Any AHL player came in last season, and replaced what Greene actually does well, I could see the Kings moving on.

Sadly no one stepped up, and his role was not filled. Net coverage in front of Quick was awful on the PK last year. Something Greene actually does well.

Forbort-Greene

Lord help us.

They will be sheltered all year, like they should be. It's not any different(minutes wise/Role wise) had the pairing been:

Forbort/Gravel.

Except Greene can PK, it's something Greene is actually good at.

Don't get me wrong -- I have faith the org is making the right decision given the circumstances (Lord knows I'm not qualified to gainsay 'em) -- just expressing concern for my heart when those two run into some difficulty Wednesday night.

It's a process.

I don't know if I'd rather have this or McNabb-Greene...

Forbort.

He is a much better skater, and his IQ is higher. So when Greene's lack of foot speed gets him in trouble, Forbort can at least help out.

McNabb had a rough preseason, hope he plays better.

Kings are starting with Gilbert, Forbort, Greene and Gravel as the bottom pair...I don't think it's terrible...they will probably roll out Gilbert-Forbort to start.

I said that about Scuderi. Had no clue what the hell was going on with Greene as he tends to get hurt so often.

I guaranteed that Scuderi wouldn't be on the opening night lineup like you had predicted.

You're misremembering. In his last active year he was absolutely brutal on the pk. I remember cheering when he was the one taking a penalty so he wouldn't be out there killing it.

unless ur a gm undercover in here you don't have a clue who is lining up for anyone :help:

I'm just going by your rave reviews about King. Slow, looks lost, not good defensively, and can't score. Almost $2m on the cap, and the money you have to pay him is over $2m this year. It should be easy to dump that on some other team.

You have one more year of King, and then he's gone, because that money has to go to Toffoli or Pearson. Maybe less than a year if the team is out of it, and Lombardi can convince another GM what King did in the 3rd round in 2012 can be duplicated.

As much as I like Greene, I think his foot speed has made him obsolete. He's not going to be able to keep up with the pace of the game, much like Scuderi. I picture Forbort and Gilbert edging him out of the lineup most nights anyway. McNabb will be replaced by Gravel/Forbort/Ladue very quickly if he keeps playing the way he did in the preseason...

Hey guys. Leafs fan from Toronto. I'm visiting LA right now. I'm in the Marina Del Rey area.

Hey hey hey, McMatthews! Welcome to L.A.! :yo: Hope you manage to catch a Kings game while you're here. Obligatory I love L.A. video:

or this:

I saw on Sheng Peng's Twitter this about former Kings prospect Alec Dillon. Guy cannot catch a break.

I'm headed home to Toronto on Wednesday.

Been spending most of the time in the Marina Del Rey area and the Valley.

You guys are sooo lucky.

Bought a LA Kings lanyard on 3rd street.

Seeing the contract Gaudreau signed, I'm hoping it's a sign that Toffoli will get less than that.

A long term commitment at $5.5M would be ideal. He should get a deal around the same ballpark as Mike Hoffman.

As for Pearson, he has so much to prove. I don't think he's worth over $2.5M yet. He needs a big, productive season to prove his worth.

Woah, Toffoli's numbers have been really good the last couple years. Getting him locked up for around $5M would be good.

Gaudreau deal should help.
