Kucherov re-signed a 3-year deal at less than $5M, which will keep him as a RFA. Nobody saw that coming.

Getting both Toffoli and Pearson locked up at under $8M would be great for the team. Plus a few contracts will be coming off the books next summer, in addition to another contract that will be absorbed by the upcoming expansion draft.

My only guess is that it's easier to do when you haven't won yet. Chicago, our beloved Kings, who's taking that much less after the Cup wins? Toffoli did, probably, but he won't next time. Toffoli hadn't even had the same production as Kucherov.

That, or Yzerman is a steely eyed demon.

Both a little over $4.5m total right now. If Toffoli gets another 30+, and Pearson has the kind of year they need out of him, it'll be tough.

That's why Dean needs to do a deal with Pearson NOW!!! Pearson's had consistency & injury problems that have prevented production. Dean could probably get a 3-4 year deal outta Pearson @ $1.9 million per year ......NOW ..... but if he waits too long, that figure would likely only increase.......

pearson is looking at a starting point of 3.5. he's not signing for clifford or lewis money.

Except Pearson and his agent know that as well.

And where is Pearson's 20-goal season? Pearson's put up Dwight King numbers, so should receive Dwight King $$$ .... for now!

Right. Pearson isn't going to sign a contract now. I mean, he could, but why? Maybe if it was a big offer. If he has the same season as last year, he'll still get a decent raise. Other than trading him, what option do the Kings have? If he gets more playing time, scores 20+, it's probably worth another few million in total.

Pearson is going to bet on himself, and his potential success can only help the team this year, but will cause potential cap headaches. But like Kopitar, or Brown, or whoever, that's not his problem to worry about if he chooses not to.

That's the absolute minimum he'll sign for. If he gets anywhere near 20-35-55 then he'll be asking for $3.5 million minimum.

he already took his bridge deal making king money.

take a moment and look at his comparable contracts upgrades based on his current production path off show me bridges.

turris from 1.4x2 to 3.5x5

benoit pouliot from 1.3x2 to 4x5

lars eller from 1.3x2 to 3.5x4

matt beleskey from 1.3x2 to 3.8x5

A lot depends on what Pearson does this year. Every goal he scores, we'll have to boo him. Just one of the great perils we have to deal with being fans of a league with a hard salary cap.

i'd rather he score his way off the roster and gets traded at deadline for something equal to better in return for the defense. another one of those perils.

Pearson has so much to prove. In spurts he's looked like he could be a legit top 6 forward, but more often than not he hits a dry spell and doesn't engage in the fore check as much as he should.

He's still a work in progress and has ways to go to be considered a player worthy of $3M+.

His career high of 36 points needs to be topped this season. At this point, I don't think he's worth more than $2.5M per year. If he cracks 20 goals and 45 or more points, then he's worth closer to $4M and will fulfill his potential as the Justin Williams like winger a lot of his projected him to turn out to be.

So the lines for tomorrow appear to be...

Setoguchi-Kopitar-Brown
Purcell-Carter-Toffoli
King-Dowd-Lewis
Clifford-Andreoff/Shore-Nolan

Muzzin-Doughty
McNabb-Martinez
Forbort-Greene/Gilbert

Quick-Zatkoff

The 23rd player in the lineup will be Pearson, who will likely force one of Dowd, Shore or Andreoff to be scratched once his suspension is over.

 Maybe the Kings will catch the Sharks not taking the game seriously after they see this lineup?

Edit: They should run Toffoli/Kopitar/Carter with Dowd/Shore/Andy down the center. At least then they'd have 1 good line.

Unbidden, an image of Kopitar as Atlas, with Seto and Brown on his back, entered my mind.
