I would love to get Voynov back. He was our second best defenseman, and there is no indication that he is on a decline or anything like that. With Voynov back, we could afford to trade both Muzzin and Martinez, stock pile picks and get forward(s) on their ELC. Whatever Voynov did is between him and his wife and its time to move on. Not our business to get involved in his personal life. Also, it wont be a PR nightmare. The LA media does not even cover the Kings. It will be covered the first week of the NHL season, and then forgotten about.

Funny how most posts on Voynov, a decent defenseman who pretty much screwed over the Kings for at least the 2014-15 season by committing an actual crime, are generally positive. On the other hand, most posts about hiring Rob Blake, one of the best defensemen of his era but guilty of the crime of negotiating his contract in public like 15 years ago, are almost entirely negative.

Would Voynov have to clear waivers if, in fact, he decided to come back, and if the NHL and immigration allowed him?

It depends on the circumstances. If he decided to sign with an NHL team this summer, there would be no need for waivers. If he decided to sign with an NHL team during next season, after having played in the KHL, then he would need to pass through waivers.

The Sobotka situation doesn't apply. He did not need waivers to rejoin the Blues mid-season because he was on the Blues reserve list. Voynov is an UFA in the NHL, so isn't on anyone's reserve list.

Voynov should still be under contract with the kings. His contract was never terminated and the remainder should still be valid. Should he desire to return and the NHL allow it will be as a member of the kings.

aside from a few people in this thread saying they'd welcome him back, the vast majority of posters on this forum (that Ive seen) dont look at VV in a positive light. a LOT of people think positively of Blake, too.

I'm in between. I don't see him in a positive light but that doesn't mean I'd stop being a fan if he came back. For a while I'd be like "ehh....yuck" but there are other players in the league with similar situations and nobody seems to be clutching their pearls when these guys play. I don't take much of a personal stance on the morals and behavior of strangers playing a sport on TV, but that's just me.

If I remember correctly, there were tweets from court, and lets just say it wasn't a simple "misunderstanding".

Read an interview from Russia when they were talking about him being in World Cup and had to petition for him to play , thy mentioned that it was exaggerated and that they are still together along with her kid

They just had a kid of their own too. So two kids now.

No one will know the full story (and truthfully I don't care because it's none of my business), but those quotes aren't very convincing. Russian culture versus US culture is very different.

I too would welcome him back, he's done his time. This moral measuring stick against anyone or anything on this board can be liberal & hypocritical at times, just sayin.

this whole thing drives me nuts...since when is someone not allowed to make a mistake and then be forgiven on the notion that him/her has learned from this mistake?

I don't even understand why it should be an argument. Sure, if the guy was a multiple offender, it's a different story....but hell, this guy has basically been banished from the league for 3 seasons and there are still people who wouldn't give the guy an opportunity to redeem himself? absurd.

Amazing what some people will forgive if they think it will make their sports team better.

I read the police report. Guess I'll have to avoid this thread until the few wife batterer worshipers crawl back into their holes.

Hey look everyone, PJ Kings Hockey has never made a mistake in his life....what a great example for all!

The white knight has arrived! Nobody is worshipping Voynov. You're exaggerating other people's position to elevate your own so you can take the moral high ground and act superior.

I'm not forgetting (or even forgiving, really) what Voynov did, but I wouldn't want to be defined by one mistake for my entire life.

The Kings can and should do anything they want regarding this, their a private company, but they have to be ready to face the repercussions of their actions. It wouldn't be enough for me to stop watching games, but exercising a double standard between Voynov beating his wife and Richard's possession of Oxy, basically saying that one is fine over the other just because one player can still play hockey, is certainly detestable. That might be enough for some people to stop coming to games, or at the very least coming to less games.

If AEG's goal is really ticket sales over actually making a contender right now, they should consider what such an action could do to their bottom line. They certainly benefit from the lesser media attention hockey gets; if the Lakers did something like this it would be all over the news.

Also, we can't take into account what Voynov's wife says in public; sometimes abusers exercise massive amounts of power over their victims. The situation could be that she would say anything in public to keep him happy.

Or she could have forgiven him. it could certainly be either thing. You just can't assume one over the other is my point.

On paper, bringing back Voynov could fix this team. You could have a proper balance of right-left in the D, while being able to trade Muzzin or Martinez for an impact forward. That with the high pick from this year might have us retooling very quickly.

While I'm no way condoning what Voynov did, I doubt he would have been suspended this long if he was a Football, Basketball or Baseball player. Would US grant him a work visa again?

While I'm no way condoning what Voynov did, I'm not sure he would have even been suspended if he was a Football, Basketball or Baseball player...

Let's not go down this rabbit hole again. But how many players in those sports are on work visas? And that's your issue. But he would have been suspended in the climate that existed then. But that would have been the end of it.

Those that morally object should state that is the sole reason why they wouldn't want him back since he paid his dues to society via his jail time, had to self-deport and was suspended for an entire season and--not sure--might still be suspended.

I did not have an issue with him coming back after serving his sentence; however, I'm now more of the belief that the ship has sailed and just moving on is the best bet unless they can bring him back and then trade him for something.

Can't imagine Luc/Blake bringing him back for one of their first moves. The have ZERO capital to play with right now when it comes to something like this while Lombardi still had plenty of goodwill in the Summer of '15 when they were trying/expecting to have him back.
