It ultimately doesn't matter if another team picked him up or not. If we bury him in the minors, his salary will have no cap hit on the big club.

Looks like the Kings can keep him for expansion draft fodder. Zatkoff won't be picked, but at least he can be the goalie the Kings expose.

Campbell is eligible for exposure as well. Even if someone was desperate enough to claim Zatkoff, the Kings would still meet the requirement of exposing a minimum of one goalie.

Of course but the idea was Campbell is a guy we're working on, Zatkoff is not. Even if Vegas has 'better' goalie options available, the Kings have a rep now. Hell, we couldn't even sneak JF Berube through waivers.

Zatkoff cleared. Nobody wanted a crappy goalie.

Seriously. If you can't play behind the Kings smothering system, you can't play anywhere. The professor looked like a starter when he was here.

Guess which year he was in the Kings :)

Note that it would have been even higher had he stayed the entire season.

Goals per game difference between last year and this year up to this point of the season:

Carter, +.171 (.171 x 82= 14 more goals)
Pearson, +.138 (11 more)
Nolan, +.098
Dowd, +.077
Clifford, +.040
McNabb, +.040
Forbort, +.033
Lewis, +.026
Gravel, +.025
Shore, +.024
Brown, +.021
Muzzin, +.019
Martinez, -.011
King, -.016 (1 fewer)
Doughty, -.038
Gaborik, -.064 (5 fewer)
Andreoff, -.133
Toffoli, -.134 (11 fewer)
Kopitar, -.198 (16 fewer)
Lecavalier, -.238
Lucic, -.247

Carter and Pearson have made up the difference lost by Lucic. Everything Carter and Pearson have done has been canceled out by Kopitar and Toffoli. Individually Dowd has not replaced Lecavalier, and Lecavalier ended up being better than could've been hoped for at the time of that trade.

Been said time and time again, by many, many people, both far and wide; Kopitar, Toffoli, and Gaborik are killing the season. They've all been hurt at times, so that's a factor to some extent. Gaborik wasn't good last year either though. Kopitar had 2 goals in 15 games(11 goal pace) before his wrist injury. Toffoli was on a 20 goal pace before his injury, and is on a 20 goal pace over 82 games since coming back from his injury. Andreoff's goals from last year also helped.

Said it before, Toffoli hasn't looked right since returning from his "lower body" injury. Never a good skater, but now it's painful looking. Kid is not healthy.

maybe I am in panic mode, or just sick of this team not being able to score. But if Duchene is seriously available I am becoming more and more ok with paying a huge price for him.

Love Duchene but what makes him so good, would not apply to the Sutter philosophy. He needs a coach and system who play a more positive upbeat style that emphasizes scoring and cycling. And since (as the Mayor pointed out) Sutter can't be fired (contract) he has to leave by his own accord, that may mean 2 more years of this ineffective stiffling system.

On the other hand, if the rumor is correct and DL is being booted upstairs, and the Avs don't trade Duchene next week, then maybe Blake's being GM changes things. If Sutter leaves because the DS /DL marriage is over, Blake would pick his own coach, which may or may not be Payne or Stevens (whose system by the way, is not the same as Sutters; In PHlly 2 of the 3 seasons he coached, Flyers were top 6 in scoring) he changes the philosophy, from the old style big and heavy game to a more effective system that emphasizes speed and skill. That of course, would require personnel changes. And might take a few years to complete but it would be a start.
ANd if that is his plan, Duchene would fit , if the Kings had the pieces to go back the other way.
OTher teams have better pieces.

But Blake or whoever the new GM is , has to see it's not good when your top 2 centers are 30 and over. And no center in the pipeline to take Kopi's place.
I wonder if the Kings would consider RNH, he's supposedly available.

You might be right. Everyone goes through slumps, but we should have seen something from Toffoli by now.

Gravel played a strong game last night and almost scored a second goal. If LaDue is good to go tomorrow, who do you sit?

TT mentioned in an interview the week he began skating again that he was still having discomfort . If you read that last sentence, you could take that as the injury isn't a short team fix. And he does look like he's not 100%.

Toffoli indicated that he is still feeling some discomfort and that he is working on how to deal with that.

“It’s something I’ve got to get used to,†he noted. “Hopefully, it’s not going to linger. But it’s one of those things where you don’t know what’s going to happen.â

The Kings need to waive Gaborik. He is just floating out there. Obviously, no team will pick him up, but it will create roster space to give Brodzinsky a cup of coffee. After last year's poor playoff performance, I thought DL would trade away some roster players, but he just kept things as is. This team now needs to know that you won't be on this team if you don't perform.

Muzzin has looked more lost for longer than Martinez. Flubbing shots, bad decisions, falling down, shots are now missing the net by 3 feet. Remember when he changed his stick and scored a goal and the thinking was he just needed the change? Wrong. His shot is now much worse than it was before and it was bad before. Muzzin has officially entered Sydor Territory.

It's that beard that makes Muzzin look like that guy from Hoarders who kept a graveyard of old car parts in his backyard. The beard has aged him 40 years.
