Watched Windsor again tonight. Man, Day is so maddening. He's IMO the most graceful skater in the OHL but easily one of the worst defensemen from his side of redline.

Puck management is tough to teach. You're either stupid, smart or average. He's somewhere between hockey stupid and criminally stupid. He shows occasional poise -- that's a good thing. But his nonchalant ways catch up with him. And coverage is still an abomination.

Someone needs to light a fire under his behind. Like before every game, do to Day what Spicoli did to Charles Jefferson's Camaro in Fast Times.

Where we stand in CHL POs:

Seattle leads their series 3-0
Prince George series with Portland is tied 2-2
Regina wins series their 4-0, advances to Quarterfinals
Windsor leads their series 3-1
Soo leads their series 3-1
Rouyn-Noranda series tied with Halifax 2-2

Morrison did not play tonight. No word, but he may have re-injured the ankle. Sucks. :(

No word on Gropp's injury. We just know that he took a high hit for which a player was suspended.

I agree about his defensive play and positioning, what annoys me the most is his complete lack of gap control for no reason... With his skating and size he should play with a really tight gap control but he doesn't seem to know what gap control is sadly :/

I don't really agree with his puck management though, i think he's very calm with the puck and rarely throws it away and mostly just keeps it simple on the breakouts.

Day's gap control can and will be fixed. He has no choice if he wants to be a Pro. Further, Day needs to play more physical. In all, if he can play tighter & stronger in the D-zone...we have another Skjei on our hands.

Here's hoping. Skjei seems to be on his way to hitting a ceiling nobody even knew he had. How often do guys actually reach their very best development outcomes? If he keeps this up he's going to wind up as the best defenseman we've drafted possibly since Zubov.

Del Zotto (2008): Skjei's already better than he ever was.

Staal, Sauer (2005): Prior to injuries Staal was a monster, but he only made an impact on one end of the ice. And I loved Sauer, but he was never this good.

Tyutin, Zidlicky (2001): Tyutin never had the offense. Zidlicky is an interesting case. He obviously put up points and his possession numbers were pretty good. He didn't play his first NHL game until age 26 though.

Kloucek (1998): Sauer before Sauer

Purinton (1995): Unfathomable how the HoF continues to snub him :sarcasm:

Johnsson (1994): Had some decent years in his mid-late 20s. Skjei's ahead of where Johnnson was at Brady's age.

Norstrom (1992): Great career, but strictly a defensive guy

Zubov (1990): Never should've traded him

Even though he was the GM that brought the cup, I hate him to this very day for that trade.

Some people will call this sacrilege, but I think the Rangers come out of the 90s with as many or more Cups if they didn't freak out after 92 and start making all those win-now trades. I don't think Tikkanen, Matteau, Noonan, and Anderson did more for them in 94 than Weight, Amonte, and Gartner would have. Those deals and the post-Cup panic trades of Zubov, Norstrom, and Kovalev are the only reasons they didn't seriously contend straight through the 90s.

Soo just went bonkers and scored 4 goals in a little over 3 minutes of play. Winning 6-1. They're going to win their series vs Flint tonight. Gettinger already has 2G & 1A tonight.

Rouyn-Noranda was tied with Halifax with about 5 minutes to go in the 3rd...then gave up two quick goals. They're down 5-3 now. Looks like they're going to go down in this series 3 games to 2. Not good. Fontaine has 1 assist tonight.

26 seconds into the 3rd OT our boy Fontaine put one in the net for Rouyn....but they have been reviewing it for several minutes due to high stick. It's close....
