2 question

*What's the point of this summer camp considering that some of these guys might not get invited to the actual camp if they perform horrible through the year and players that weren't invited to this camp can get invited to the important one?

*Out of the Canadian player who weren't invite to this camp, who do you guys think has a shot at surprising the brass, getting invited to the winter camp and. Possibly even making the team?

That is exactly the point of this summer camp. ... if they preformed horrible, they won't be invited and spots open up for others who were bubble players or who play their ***** off to start this season and catch the attention of hockey canada's selection committee

More information is better than less information. The coaches have a better understanding of 40+ players now than they did two weeks ago.

I'm assuming that defence is pretty wide open. I could see someone like Nicolas Meloche getting a look as a right handed, more defensive defenceman. They might also go for someone like Bryen Martin or Matthew Spencer depending on how they play this year.

Also - it's not like I have any problem with Marner and Strome together. I think they play extremely well on the same line (I just wish that Marner would shoot more rather than always going for the beautiful pass - but that's o/t).

Agreed, that Marner and Strome combo looks great. However, Strome's biggest strength over Marner (other than size), is his shot. Strome's shot is more lethal than Marners while Marner's playmaking is more lethal than Stromes. Looks like the perfect combo!

Michael Dal Colle - Dylan Strome - Mitch Marner
Josh Ho-Sang - Robbie Fabbri - Jake Virtanen
Lawson Crouse - Braydon Point - Travis Konecny
Anthony Beauvillier - Jared McCann - Matt Barzal
Nick Merkley

Travis Sanheim - Joe Hicketts
Haydn Fleury - Noah Juulsen
Brandon Hickey - Travis Dermott
Thomas Chabot

This is what I'd like to see as of now.

Dermott should be over Roy for sure

Four of your top 12 forwards are Islanders prospects. Being an Islander fan, I would love to see this come true!

still can't believe the Islanders get to draft Barzal. This team is gonna be awesome to watch in the near future (oh wait, it's already awesome)

I think Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and Barzal should definitely be on the team.

Beauvillier will probably be right down to the wire. But I'm not a Perlini fan and being from Quebec, I can definitely say that Beauvillier is a solid 2-way player that plays with a ton of energy while having chemistry with Barzal at the U-18 so I think he fits in there.

Definiteky a forward prospect pool to be proud of as an Isles fan IMO.

I'd like to see Dermott-Hickey as well. Could really surprise people as the third pairing. Big fan of Dermott going into the past draft, was hoping Calgary could get him.

Dal Colle-Point-Konecny (Bring Speed-Skills&Tenacity)
Ho Sang-Strome-Marner (Bring Speed-Size-Skills)
Crouse-Fabbri-Virtanen (Bring Speed-Size-Skills)
Perlini-Quenneville-Stephens (Bring Speed-Size-Skills+Intensity)
Merkley

Hicketts-Sanheim
Fleury-Juulsen
Hickey-Dermott
Chabot

McDonald
Blackwood

Barzal&Gauthier were barely left off

Mitch Vande Sompel too...isles are loaded...

I think if mccan make this team he is the 3rd line center because he is probably the best two way center avaliable. I also like to see a Chabot on the team instead of a Sainheim or Roy. I also think that Fabbri Viratanen and dal colle have a chance to make there team I actually think 2 out of 3 of them do. I think that Koency could move up and play in fabbri place and Crouse could take Virtanen or dal colle .Don't think any one of the dman make it to the nhl so we don't have to worry about that

No way Sanheim is left off. Missing Dermott on the back end.

I think we can safely assume Fabbri will not be unavailable. The Blues are being decimated by injuries in the summer. Ouch. That will hurt.

Possibly. If Lehtera is good to go at the beginning of the year then they only need to replace Berglund. It's possible they could sign someone, or maybe move Backes to centre and bring up Rattie. In any event, losing Fabbri would be bad, but not crippling.

a difficult tournament to handicap, as the 96s are not particularly strong from any of the top contenders, as Sweden, U.S. and the Czechs will all be missing top players...

And I do rate the 96 Czech group as the best in a while and a solid medal contender if NHL GMs don't interfere too much.

If Canada is only missing four players (Ekblad, McDavid, Bennett, Fabbri) I'll take that as a win. Better than most years.

some years it is more of a concern than others. For the Tor/Mtl tournament, I wasn't the least bit concerned about 4-5 players missing. For this coming year? I'm somewhat concerned. I'm holding out for Bennett and Fabbri.

I can't imagine Bennett being available after Calgary stupidly burned a year of his ELC. Possibly if he is playing limited minutes for them, but Hartley likes playing his young guys. Fabbri still has a decent chance to be there in my opinion. I'm pretty confident in the forwards regardless though, lots of talent there. The defence doesn't look exceptional though.

I agree I think the defence is what makes or breaks us. I'm not sold on the group were expecting to bring as of right now

Do the Ho-Sang developments today hurt his chances? If so who might be the replacement as a lot of people had him penciled in their preliminary lineups after the summer camp

Yes, you don't want attitude or head cases in the dressing room plus he has tons of holes in his game anyway.

I don't believe he would have made the team anyway, even before this issue with the Islanders. He's pretty much blown whatever chance he had left now, I would have to think.
