Brayden Point has been returned to junior.

Re Crouse - i was reminded today that he has an OHL suspension that won't expire until Oct. 16, so wouldn't expect him back to the OHL until then (assuming he comes back - I haven't seen him in Fl).

Re Strome - if he doesn't make the team it would be a shocker (assuming he's available). How impactful he might be is another debate...but I don't see him missing the team. Lol, I'm good at predicting wrong for this tourney, so we'll see!

That's interesting. I never heard that. What was it for?

Perhaps my negativity on Strome is a lasting effect of his elder brother's efforts in 2013. Although he did turn in a better effort in 2012 as an 18 year old...so, there is that hook on which to hang a shred of hope, I suppose!

That's great news for Canada. In the absence of Fabbri, I could see him slot in as our #1 center.

Strome makes the nhl, whereas he would be sub par player at the World Juniors if he would be there on international ice. Funny how that works.

I think McCann will be available. He's looked exceptional in camp and should be playing in the NHL but there's just no room for him on the Canucks, unless they move him to the wing. Virtanen is more likely to stay the year in Vancouver.

Team Canada could use both, though.

D.Strome would absolutely make the team if available, but he won't be imo.

I'm more concerned about players like Virtanen, Crouse, or Fabbri, who could all be playing the NHL in December. Good for them, anyway. :) But there is no doubt that the team would be stronger with them.

On the other hand, the team will be pretty ok even if all the TOP6 forwards are in the NHL (McDavid, Bennett, Fabbri, Strome, Virtanen, Crouse)

We still have Marner, Point, Barzal, Dal Colle, Konecny, hopefully McCann, and others like Chartier, Perlini, Merkley, Ho-Sang, Beauvillier...I would still be pretty confident with those players.

imagine the best roster though...

Bennett - McDavid - Marner :amazed:
Fabbri - D.Strome - Virtanen
Crouse - Barzal - Point
Dal Colle - McCann - Konecny

that first line would be phenomenal

It's a pretty good one. But Thank God for the GTHL, spitting out the best players at a good clip. Now if only other parts of the country (Quebec) could get their heads out of their *****....we'd be in better shape.

and don't give me the Veleno crap.

that's definitely true. There's a room for improvement and a lot of potential to go up.

Any chance Blackwood grabs the starting job, considering his hot start to the season and whether he can sustain such play throughout December?

Strome makes the nhl, whereas he would be sub par player at the World Juniors if he would be there on international ice. Funny how that works.

Which is why at the summer camp when people were going gaga for Marner and were criticizing Strome it was insanity.

People need to realize the NHL and WJC are not the same. Hence why Brayden Point will likely dominate the tournament this year... but will have his work cut out to make the NHL.

If McCann goes back to junior i expect him to get a top 6 C role. Hes better than Strome and Barzal as of today. He should put up some big numbers if he gets sent down.

It will be very interesting to see who sticks in the NHL for more than 9 games. Ekblad, McDavid, and Bennett won't be there. Fabbri looks like he has a fair chance to make St. Louis, though even if he does I would hold out hope that he could be sent to the WJC when St. Louis' injured centres return, and it doesn't hurt that Armstrong is tight with Hockey Canada. Crouse has an NHL style game and physique, but who knows what Florida wants. Barzal probably has no chance to make the Islanders, given their solid forward depth and his immature defensive game. I would be shocked if Strome stays with Arizona given that they seem highly committed to losing, which isn't a great environment for an 18 year old. You can't even say that Strome has nothing left to do at the junior level (despite his scoring title) given that he's never had a season as the top centre on his team. I doubt that McCann makes Vancouver since they already have a strong young centre in Horvat and apparently people have been liking Vey at centre. Virtanen... I think he will get a long look, given that his style is well suited to a bottom six NHL role.

I'm not overly worried about the forwards on this team, even if a few players (say Crouse, Virtanen, Fabbri) are missing in addition to those who are already NHL locks. If the defence holds up (by far the biggest question) and the goaltending is solid, then there is more than enough forward talent for Canada to win. Canada has won this tournament while being led by Blake Comeau and Steve Downie at forward. An overpowering group of forwards is not required to win.

Strome's been sent back to Erie.

The notable players still up that I can think of are Fabbri, Barzal, and Crouse. Not including McD or Bennett.

Blackwood and McDonald have the #1 and #2 spots locked down. The both did very well and basically tied each other during the summer camp. I think they'll go back and fourth in the tournament until one of them has a bad game.

Crouse back to Kingston.

4 players, Fabbri, Bennett, McCann and Virtanen who may or may not be made available come December. My guess is that we may get 1 or none.

Fabbri, McCann, Virtanen out of those 3 I can see two being in the lineup come boxing day.

We shall see, but either way even if 2 are loaned this team has the tools to win this tournament. 97' depth is incredible. And Chychrun will be a star.

I'm not one of those who trumpets the Hockey Canada and Bob Mckenzie mantra of it's a tournament exclusively for 19 year olds...It's a skill tournament not an age tournament. is my mantra...

but a team of predominately 18 year old players + a double-underager will be hard pressed to win this tournament. If we can get 2 of the 3, then obviously that is a big plus, and I'll be more confident, but minus 3 centers + others, I have my doubts... I admire your optimism, I'll be rooting for the miracle, rooting, but skeptical.

I'll be shocked if McCann isn't involved in the WJC this year. If he's there, that should take care of the third centre spot. If Point looks anything like he did in the summer camp, then there isn't much to worry about with the top centre spot. Barzal is good enough to centre any line 2-4. Marner will likely be a winger, but he is good enough at this level to make any line dangerous. If given the right coaching, this team will be able to score even without McDavid, Bennett, Fabbri or Virtanen.
