He plays LW for his club team which helps his case. He can play C in a pinch too. I could see him being the 13th forward because of his versatility, but he needs to continue his strong start.

I would love it! But as you said it will depend whether he is able to continue in his strong performance but also if players like Bennett, Fabbri, McCann or Virtanen will be available or not.

From the Flyers standpoint just imagine Konecny, NAK and Sanheim all on team Canada for WJC. When was the last time something like that happened for the Flyers? Well, if I remember correctly a few years ago we had Laughton and Leier but still, this would be awesome.

Probably an outside chance. The forward group is pretty strong this year, and unfortunately for him most of his competition is also right handed. His summer camp was pretty good though.

Haven't seen a Flames game yet the year, but Bennett is putting up zeros across the board; I don't think he's returning to junior at any point, but if he starts sitting out some games, then he just may become available in early December. That would be nice.

any update on Fabbri? tough break to start the year.

Here's my line-up:

Dal Colle - D.Strome - Marner
Barzal - Point - Fabbri (could be loaned)
Ho-Sang - Konecny - Crouse
J.Gauthier - Beauvillier - Perlini
Extras: Chartier, Merkley, Sprong (think he'll be sent back to junior after 9 games)

Sanheim - Juulsen
Fleury - Chychrun
Chabot - Hicketts
Extras: McKeown / J.Roy / Dermott

McDonald - Blackwood - Monteambeault

I watched half of one Calgary game and didn't notice Bennett, not that that means much. Given the praise he's been given by their organization, and this being the second year of his ELC, I can't imagine he is released unless something goes very wrong with him. No idea with Fabbri... just a concussion, out indefinitely. He seemed to play well prior to that.

I don't think Sprong is currently eligible to play for Canada due to not having citizenship.

4 Islander prospects? Me likey.

I know Dermott had a great camp and all, but nothing about his play in junior makes me think he should be on this team. Unless of course, the other potential D candidates have been playing relatively mediocre hockey as well.

Saw Dermott play twice this season including last night in Peterborough. He played very well both games. Last night was tough in his own end and moved the puck up ice at will. I don't see any other D men that were at the summer camp that should be ahead of him. Otters seem to have him playing with a very young line showing great confidence in his game at both ends of the rink. Would be totally surprised if he is not in the top 4 for team canada.

I think the only one with three was having Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, and Rejean Beauchemin on the 2005 team. Of course Beauchemin was the backup goalie to Fleury.

Jeff Glass was the goaltender. Fleury was too old.

The Leafs also had three on Team Canada in 2003 with Colaiacovo, Stajan and Wellwood.

McCann has a pretty good chance of being on the team IMO. He's not strong enough for the NHL yet, yes he's got the skill and the shot but he gets manhandled out there by the opposing defenceman. I think he should be sent down after his 9 games.

Virtanen, however, may stay because he is definitely physically ready for the NHL. He'll likely be playing on the fourth line with Prust and Cracknell, so I could see the Canucks send him down for the WJC if he isn't producing offense. If it were up to me I'd send him down as well, he hasn't generated much offense in the WHL and I'd like to see him develop his all around game down there.

If the two were to make the WJC Canada would get a huge boost to its top 6.

Why is the gold medal game on a Tuesday? Semi-Finals also on a Monday. Right when most people are at work.

I can't believe that this is actually a question.

tournament always start on the 26th. whatever day that happens to be...and ends on the 5th..whatever day that happens to be.

Malmo 2014 the tournament opened on a Thursday and ended on a Sunday.
Toronto/Montreal the tournament opened on a Friday and ended on a Monday.
Helsinki opens on Saturday the 26th. and ends on the 5th. Tuesday.

Guess what? the 2017 tournament in Montreal/Toronto will open on a Monday and end on a Thursday.

Oh yeah, that's right. It sucks especially when it's in Europe and on a weekday because of work.

Yes, well, we shouldn't complain on the WJH schedule and hosting privileges, as we come out far ahead in that category... as we should, the tournament is what it is thanks to TSN and Canadian hockey fans.

Although I would like to see Hockey Canada and TSN tone down the marketing hype and blitz a degree or two, as I'd like to see it on occasion be a junior tournament hosted in junior cities where these junior players actually play. It would be nice once a decade to see.

Imagine when the games are in Canada and people in Finland, Sweden, or Russia want to watch? An 8pm game in Canada is 3a-5a over there. Even when I worked midnights during it two years ago, that was tough. We've been lucky in Canada to host it so much.

As much as I'd like to see the games played in Junior cities, it won't happen. The money and advertising potential is too great in the big cities. They'll keep rotating it in Canada between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal, with possibilities in a few other cities (Vancouver, Quebec City?).

Michael Dal Colle needs to severely pick up his play, or he has no chance at making team Canada. I think he should be there, and will likely end up there but at this moment he's just not playing well enough. I unfortunately don't think Joe Hicketts is good enough to be there, but HC will keep him around. I'm going to say what my team would be, which would be different from the real team I'm sure.

Michael Dal Colle - Robby Fabbri - Mitchell Marner
Anthony Beauvillier - Dylan Strome - Brayden Point
Lawson Crouse - Jared McCann - Jake Virtanen
Brendan Perlini - Mathew Barzal - Travis Konecny
Jayce Hawryluk

Haydn Fleury - Noah Juulsen
Jakob Chychrun - Roland McKeown
Travis Sanheim - Jeremy Roy
Thomas Chabot

Mason McDonald
MacKenzie Blackwood

In the end I would say Hicketts makes it, and Fabbri is probably a long shot to be released depending on how much he is playing at the time.

Other names to consider:

F:
Rourke Chartier
Julien Gauthier
Nick Merkley

D:
Joe Hicketts
Brendan Guhle
Travis Dermott
Brandon Hickey
Jeremy Lauzon (Really think this kid could find a way onto the team)

Dal Colle-Point-Marner
Perlini-Strome-Konecny
Crouse-Barzal-Beauvillier
Hawryluk-Stephens-Lemieux
Merkley

Sanheim-Hicketts
Hickey-Juulsen
Chychrun-Roy
Fleury

McDonald
Blackwood

Changes with the NHL additions:

Dal Colle-Fabbri-Marner
Virtanen-Strome-Sprong
Crouse-McCann-Point
Beauvillier-Barzal-Konecny
Perlini

Have to say honestly, out of anyone I'd be most surprised if Fabbri gets sent back to play for the team.

Somewhat of a homer question, but can anyone outwest speak to Andrew Neilsen's play and whether he has a shot at playing his way into contention for this team?

Was very impressive in Leafs camp, late blooming two way d-man top-5 in dub d scoring ahead of notables such as Hicketts, Juulsen, and Fluery while being known mainly a physical defensive guy.

Has he been as impressive as the numbers suggest?

Thanks for any feedback

Sprong can't play for Canada. And Lemieux is a complete idiot. If he makes the team I will be most upset.
