out of the 3 games canada has played i have seen about 1 and a half
so dont take this is as gospel, this is my opinion from what i have seen and read on here a bit

but heres a short list of who has a good shot at making the team

haydn fleury
vincent dunn
travis dermott
noah juulsen
joe hicketts(returning player almost guaranteed)

out of the games and bits i have seen these D man have impressed me the most

hmm tough to say, id say he has a chance, he scored tonight and played pretty good overall, didnt notice him too much beyond the 1st though
Could possibly be a 7th dmen then?

Not being noticed is usually a good thing on D. However when you're trying out for a team you usually need to do something to be noticed, ESPECIALLY when you're a 7th round pick. Even if he doesn't make it, the fact that he played his way to a invite and then performed really good at the camp is a pretty positive sign. The CBJ board is voting on top prospects right now and we're getting into the teens and he hasn't even been voted into the poll yet :help:

Sanheim will make this team. Still has some rounding out to do in his development and overall game but at the very least would be an impeccable 7th defenceman with PP time. I expect him to play a top 4 role regardless.

Juulsen and Dermott really impressed at this camp.

i didnt watch too much of sanheim tbh my list was mostly based on what i saw
and sanheim made some mistakes but anyways im sure he has a shot like you say

Strome amazes me whenever I see him internationally. He manages to look like he does less than nothing, and then comes away with a point or two. It's very peculiar, but generally a good thing. Also, I'm glad that Barzal looked good.

Going by Gord Miller, than it seems a forgone conclusion that Strome has already made the tournament team and that he and Marner will be joined at the hip. You got to think he's hearing that from HC people and he's just echoing what is said to him.

And that's too bad. b/c I'd like to give a good ol' HC snub to the 3OA pick. :) He should be good to go for the 2017 tournament back on home soil though.

The Jeff Carter effect.

Bennett, Dal Colle, Fabbri, Hawryluk, Perlini, Point, Virtanen. Bennett outproduced Ho Sang. Dal Colle outproduced him. Fabbri outproduced him. Point outproduced him. Virtanen is a natural wing, brings a physical presence that Ho Sang lacks and is clearly a better fit for a role on the lower lines. Same thing with Perlini.

I'm starting to believe that you are you intentionally missing the point (Mr. Writer made it also), and saying "la la la" in the face of what was obviously going on that summer. Ho-Sang's numbers were very similar to those guys. The idea that that Fabbri scored a few more points on a great team made the difference, as opposed to that narrative, is humbug and everyone knows it. (BTW I'm not engaging in a Ho-Sang should have made the camp instead of Fabbri debate, nor would I back the ludicrous claim that Ho-Sang should make the team instead of Marner.)

Juulsen, Dermott and Dunn were apparently all highly ranked by the Habs, many people claimed that we've overrated all three and they had guys such as Roy and Meloche higher, yet here they are all looking very good.

Hickey is a rock back there. More of a defensive d-man but I will be shocked if he's not in the top four.

Sanheim played brutal in this tourney but I expect him to turn it around.

I fully understand the point - it's just wrong and thus I disagree. Ho Sang was a marginal player to receive an invitation, and thus him not receiving one is not a significant snub. Fabbri scored a few more point (significantly in 10 fewer games) and then had a huge playoff run, while Ho Sang did nothing of note in the playoffs. Fabbri was better. That's why he was invited, it's why he went on to make the team, and it's why he was drafted (and projected to be drafted) earlier. If Ho Sang had been invited it would have been fine. Him not being invited was no significant issue.

I was able to attend 3 of the 4 games, and watched the 4th on TV. My defensive pairings, *based on this week*, would be:

Fleury-Hickey
Dermott-Juulsen
Chabot-Hicketts

The 7th defenseman could go a few ways, obviously. It likely comes down to Sanheim and Dunn. I thought Sanheim struggled for most of the week, which is why he's not in my top 6. One wildcard I would throw out there is Dante Fabbro. He was my top defenseman in the U18 camp. He'd need a very strong U18 though, because it would be hard to take an underage player from the BCHL.

My personal D pairings would be:

Sanhiem- Fleury
Hickey- Hicketts
Chabot- Juulsen
Dermott/ Dunn

One problem is that Juulsen is the only RHD listed (I think).

I've heard this rule mentioned before. Where is it coming from?

It's an obscure rule they used on Mackinnon in the summer camp of 2012 for the 2013 Ufa tournament. Team Canada was playing 4 exhibition games, 2 in Yaroslavl, Russia, but Mackinnon couldn't play those exhibition games because, according to Hockey Canada, he had to first play a U18 event, which was the Hlinka tournament. So instead of getting some reps in with the team everybody and their grandmother knew he'd be playing for, he had to go off with the U18 team to the Hlinka tournament that Canada wins every year (almost)...

But, I'm sure with the politics Hockey Canada likes to play, they'll find a way to bend the rules in this case. I'm not 100% convinced that Chychrun is good enough to make it as a double-underager. So, we'll see...if he can stay off the IR long enough to force an invite to the November SSS and December camp.

Interesting. I assume that, given Chychrun was scheduled to attend the U18 camp and only missed it due to injury, they would make an exception if the coaches wanted him on the team. This rule seems more designed to ensure top-end players don't skip the U18s.

Is it that simple. Comparing points? What about board play, picking up passes in the defensive zone, strong on boards in defensive zone for easy exit, physical play, simple passes, teammates like him...it isn't all about points, especially when he will likely play a lesser role than he is used to.

Who are you talking about?

So it's LHD:

Fleury
Sanheim
Hicketts
Dunn
Hickey
Chabot
Dermott
Leblanc
Vande Sompel

RD:

Juulsen
Roy
McKeown
Carrier

I was a little skeptical at first, but I'm liking Juulsen's chances more and more, considering the way Roy and McKeown showed up at this camp.
