Maybe because he was BY FAR the best player for the same group of kids two years ago at the WJC. Maybe because he faced the second most shots, on a bad team defensively and yet still had the second highest sv % in the Q.

Also he is by far the strongest goaltender technically. That first goal was bad but he hadn't faced a shot for four months before that. After that the Russians had several good scoring chances and Mason made them look routine. He's always in great position.

The fact he's not playing tonight pretty much shows what Craig Button was talking about. Hockey Canada knows what they have in Mason and they want to get another look at the other two guys.
They may want to get another look at the other two but there is no chance Mason is the lock to being the starter at the WJC. He maybe a slight favorite going into camp because he played on the Under 18 team, realistically they go with the hot goaltender.

damn marner took a very early penalty

beauvillier, with an amazing dump and chase that almost led to a goal

marner, with a good backcheck and later on dangles and a great feed, drawing two players on him and strome almost scores

point drawing a penalty and merkley with some nice moves

mdc half fan on a shot should have scored

Best way to describe Point is nifty. Awesome sense of time and space.

I was going to complement Marner on his terrific balance but then he fell over a couple of times haha. Still, great balance, one of his best traits as a smaller player.

Vince Dunn finally showing his skills on the backend.
