How do you know they were going to pick Strome?

What? Arizona obviously knew Arizona was picking strome?

I'm saying I'm curious as to what the offers were that Arizona refused to accept just to be able to pick strome at 3rd

Anyone else unimpressed with sanheim? He's gotten straight up danced around quite a lot in both the games so far. Fluery as well has been the same.

Juulsen looked much better, arguably the best dman tonight, dermott was pretty solid as well

I thought Strome would've played much better tonight then his first game but he was completely invisible in this one. Every game I've ever watched of stromes have been identical to how he's playing now. Very unengaged, floats around, not moving his feet, ect.. Literally everyte he gets the puck in the offensive zone he's to slow and gets pressured right away so he just muffins a pass to no one in front of their net.i know these games don't have much weight but If he keeps playing like that there's not going to be a spot for him on the team come Christmas.

Don Maloney

used the words "Pause to consider" and "convincing offer" to describe a trade for the 3rd overall pick.

It doesn't mean that team would have used the pick on Strome.

They could have picked Marner, Hannifin

Why would that matter in this case? Arizona were taking Strome, thus would be receiving offers for Strome (3rd).

What? The poster is just stating that he was wondering what Arizona passed up in terms of offers for the #3 overall pick. They ended up refusing said offers and taking Strome. Meaning they turned down the offers to take Strome.

Classy way to end it, couldn't even tell who started it. Ruskie guy was upset though

Haha typical Russian thing to do. Zero class from that country when it comes to international play. We've seen it before and we'll see it again.

How do you know the unknown teams were going to Choose strome??

That's ALL I am saying, you have no idea who the team would have selected.

McKewon or however you spell it was terrible. Dermott played great, love the kid. So smart and poised. Wish I had him in Vancouvers prospect pool. Ho-Sang was a beast tonight, hands of gold. Thought Roy played meh game, lots of mistakes.

Agreed.

at 6'0 and just shy of 200 lbs dermott is pretty thick, has some nice weight to him
hopefully he can be a two way force for the leafs after some seasoning in the o and then ahl

How did LeBlanc look? I was suprised to see him get a invite to camp and I've only seen his name mentioned once in this whole thread. I guess that could be a good thing as its usually a good thing when you don't notice a Dman. However not so much in a tryout scenario.

So you know for sure they were going to choose Strome if they got the 3rd pick????

I don't quite think you understand.

Arizona WAS taking Strome at 3 regardless. The offers they were receiving was for the 3rd pick. It was either trade the pick away (I.E trade away Strome), or keep the pick (I.E Strome).

Who the other teams were going to take has literally nothing to do with this. Arizona was either taking Strome, or trading the chance to draft Strome.

Haha wow these Russians are so dirt. They don't play the game right and this is another example of many. Dive, slash, try to start a fight then look at the ref when a Canadian gets a real fight with them. Just for example, Russian pushes Fleury after the whistle, Fleury pushes and then taps him on the glove and the Russian looks at the ref.

Look after the handshake, Canadians not doing anything and goes who's the hothead running around? The Russian. Nothing changes with the Russians, still the immature babies. And it's not like one person, it's the culture in Russian Hockey. It's sad how they build their players, Ovechkin comes to North America and changes the whole way he plays and acts.

I've been saying it for years, Hockey Canada needs to end all involvement with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. That includes finding other teams for an August exhibition series, ending the November SSS and everything else. Anything involving Canada v Russia that doesn't fall under the IIHF banner I would like to see end. We can get our summer reps in without having to put up with their particular brand of nonsense.

Before this started I had Strome on the bubble, long shot to make it as a 13th forward. Right now, Strome is considerably behind the 8-ball.

I had Juulsen making it but Roy ahead of him. Now Roy is on the outside looking in and Juulsen is moving up.

I'm rooting for Ho-Sang.

Yeah, I bet that Bragin little **** sees it as a way to get some cheap shots on some Canadians. He brings all these big Russians looking to hit everything because they never have the puck. I'm fine with bringing other teams than the Russians because it builds better and more competition and they won't play like *******s.

I'm not impressed with Strome at all and it's not because I don't understand how he plays. Sam Reinhart is a similar player, great playmaking ability, smart, tactical player always doing the right things but Reinhart was very good at the summer camp and the puck always found him. Strome just doesn't get the puck or make the right plays, he's just invisible out there in every way. His skating just hurts his chances.

Juulsen, Hickey, Dermott, LeBlanc have looked very good IMO. I wasn't sure of LeBlanc but he's looked really good. Smart, moves the puck up the ice, plays tight aggressive defence and he's physical along the boards winning puck battles. Juulsen is the same except probably more smarter. His IQ is like Ekblad's where he knows what to do in every situation. He looks good right now but I can't wait until 2017 with more weight and maturity in his game. I bet he'll anchor our D then. Hickey was everything I expected. I saw some BU games and he's exactly the same player, athletic, mobile, aggressive, and doesn't give up any space to the forward because of his great skating. Reminds me of Nurse because of his big frame and great mobility. Dermott, just like Juulsen. Smart player, moves the puck up well, uses a good stick and wins the puck battles along the boards.

I hope Ho-Sang makes it too but he still makes those mistakes where he does too much and it's because he has so much confidence. He's not the same selfish player, he made great passes to teammates and is a dual-threat. He skates very well which helps and isn't a soft guy either. Some players who hurt their chances and IMO aren't looking like they'll play in December are Sadowy, DeBrusk, Stephens, Watson, Chartier, I'm especially looking forward to see how Merkley, Barzal, Aube-Kubel, Gauthier.

Good game by Ho Sang. I'm not a fan of his and I think Canada has several better options who do what he does, but he looked good last night. Chartier was pretty good at both ends, and looked like a guy who could contribute on the lower lines. I was pretty disappointed in the defence given that most of the top defencemen played last night. Roy still didn't look good, and Sanheim and Fleury don't look like solid number one defencemen.

Did anyone else notice that Ho Sang seemed to revert to his selfish play in the second half of the third period and made a couple of bad giveaways? Sometimes you just need to make safe play, especially at the end of a tight game.

Except he definitely had a problem winning defensive zone faceoffs. He lost at least 4 dzone faceoffs clean.

I love Ho-Sang, any Canadian player with the stones to criticize Hockey Canada is aces in my book. I hope he has 1 hell of a dominate year in junior and forces his way on to the team, but you are right, it's a tough choice on RW, and if it comes down to a choice between Marner and Ho-Sang, I'm taking Mitchy boy....but if Marner is at center, then that's a whole different ball game and I take Josh on my team.

You don't make concrete judgements like this in a summer exhibition game.

As much as I wanna agree, he's left too much to be desired and his flaws seem flagrant. Don't get me wrong though, he might still make it, but I can't see him having too much success, most people here had his stock on the rise, only recently.

Ho-Sang flies on the ice, guy was clearly the best forward last night - wasn't even close.

Really liked Spencer Watson. Always seemed to be in the right place in the offensive zone, and seems like he has a real knack for the power play. But in the defensive zone he disappeared(Like almost every forward yesterday)

A little bias, but I thought Dermott was the best D on the ice. Every time he was on the ice (After the first 10 mins of the 1st) he was either getting under the Russian's skin or making a great play.

I liked

Ho-Sang,
Watson,
Quennville,
Konecny,
Dermott,
Fleury(except on the second goal),
Sanheim(In the offensive zone),
Juulsen

I did not like

Strome,
Virtanen,
MacKewan,
Debrusk,
Montembault(sp?)

But it is only summer camp, most of these guys are just getting their feet under them and I'm sure will be much different during the middle of the season.

McKewon and Roy are cut

Sanheim has all the tools yet he was consistently getting beat out there.

Really like Dermott, Hickey and Fleury, Juulsen too. The only problem with this Canadian team is that most of the d-men are defensive d-men. We don't really have a true puck mover/ PP QB. Maybe Hicketts and four forwards?
