WJC: 2016 — Finland Roster Talk

Someone calculated that Finnish skaters average height is 187.5cm (6'1'') and weight 86.95kg (191.6 lbs). Damn this is a big team. Lower if goaltenders are counted but still 187.09cm and 85.83kg.

Ok so what happened? A few years ago we were lucky to have one or two 6'2+ forwards on the team, and usually they were slow grinders. Now there's 3 players under 6'0... I like this.

You high or something? We have best forward in tournament Rantanen (Nylander is same level), one of the best forward groups if not the best, good defence, top 3 goalies and we have those top3 goalies two, Vehviläinen and Kähkönen, other countries have good 1 goalie but their second goalies suck. Also our team is huge (height 187.5cm (6'1'') and weight 86.95kg (191.6 lbs) and still they are good skaters, not only good skaters in big guys but they are good skaters in general. Also, very good coaches.

Have to quote myself, given I questioned something earlier a bit...

Looks like Jalonen has decided to spread the wealth a bit. With Repo in the 4th, every line is technically a scoring threat. Although I have to say, I'm not sure who's supposed to be the go-to-guy in the 3rd, as it consists of three guys who usually play center. Well, Lammikko and Saarela are pretty good all-around players and especially Saarela has a wicked shot, but still.

I'm happy that Jalonen made the Lammikko <-> Repo switch inside the game, made a world of good for both lines. It's a no-brainer things should stay that way for now.

Now, if only our 1st gets it going on full speed (not that they were bad here, not at all), and this team's gonna be hard to stop, no matter who they face.

this year i would take them over Russia easily. Idk about defence, but their forwards are much better than russians.

we have those top3 goalies two, Vehviläinen and Kähkönen, other countries have good 1 goalie but their second goalies suck.

That's not true, Russia has two good goalies.

How did Niku play?

Niku played really well no much mistakes or puck-losses etc.
He also scored Finland's 3rd goal.

He was front of the net and his shot was quick and it went top-shelf.
No chance for Belarus goalie to catch that shot.

This is what I thought.

Finland gets a reputation for having a pretty boring team, but wow, this team is exciting, especially the Aho line. I think Finland has a good chance to win gold, if they are good defensively, and its hard to know that after this game since they played Belarus.
