The Fins are just flying. I, for one, will be rooting for the Czechs tomorrow. I do not want the Fins in the Quarters.

update
Can we all pray the Czechs beat the Finns tomorrow
Quite the road we will have
Best of luck boys

I think it will be like this:

1st place Sweden plays slovakia (no matter what happens in canada sweden game - since sweden beat usa)

2nd place USA plays loser of czechs vs finland

3rd place Canada plays winner czechs vs finland
Russia plays denmark (unless swiss beat usa. Then russia would play swiss I think)

I think

Team Canada/Hockey Canada could have avoided all this if they just had kept with last year's 100 year anniversary jerseys. They brought a level of awesomeness to every team Canada last year. Ditch the Hockey Canada corporate logo on Team Canada jerseys forever, please. Oh..and of course, picked a better coach would have helped. but when Lowry was named I was in favor of the selection since he was a part of last year's team...but I prefer to criticize the coach and not a bunch of teenagers who are undoubtedly giving it their all.

Yes! Love those jerseys I was thinking the same thing earlier.

How is Virtanen hurt? He was playing in the AHL before he came over.

Not sure if you're serious or not but I'll bite.

Its suspected he has broken ribs from the Getzlaf crosscheck. He missed the rest of the road trip. He only played for Utica a couple of days before going to Canada camp to get a conditioning stint. Canucks called it a hip pointer or hip injury to avoid players targeting his ribs. He has broken ribs. Trust me

Lol okay.

If thats true, then Vancouver is completely stupid to allow their player to play with broken ribs.

I'll trust the random poster on an internet board rather than what their organization says.

These conspiracy theories lol. If he did have broken ribs, it would be hurting him to breathe.

That is correct. I don't think we have a chance in hell against the Fins at this point. Our hope, the Fins burn themselves out today and the Czechs find a way to finish 2nd in their pool. I was hoping the Fins' game would go into OT today but that is not going to happen.

Well, you missed the point completely. Strome and Barzal are playing well and might be building some chemistry with linemates. Strome and Marner already failed, and Barzal/Marner makes no sense as both want the puck. There is no need to lose the modest gains made by Strome and Barzal on their lines just to try to get Marner points. For better or worse it looks like Marner and Point are going to be stuck together.

Not much left to say prior to the Sweden game. I've been unimpressed with some of the comments the players have made since the beginning (one in particular) about their performance. If they can't get it going against Sweden then there isn't much hope for the elimination games.

How is it that big of a change? Barzal's line interchanges forwards all the time. The 13th forward swings in constantly and it doesnt seem to affect him. I doubt subbing in Marner is that big of a deal.

After a bit of time to reflect on this team I honestly think we're going to peak in the elimination rounds and be a force. Konecny and Barzal are better skaters than anyone I have seen in the tournament. They took the Swiss a bit too lightly but we definitely not be in an position to do so from here on out.

This team is sorely lacking in the physical play and it is showing. Barely anyone is finishing their checks and finishing checks often times creates offensive chances because it puts a defender out of position for a half second that leads to open opportunities.

The boys need to stop being so cute with the puck and just get it to the net as often as they can (i.e. Denmark game). Also the obvious coaching decisions that have been extensively discussed apply.

Objectively, this team is extremely talented and capable of beating anyone in this tournament. If they catch fire during the Sweden game and through the elimination round they are capable of winning gold. But if they continue to pass up finishing their checks, awful PP strategy, and double shifting players who shouldn't be double shifted we might be in for an earlier QF exit. I think the boys will pull it together though.

GO CANADA GO!!

As a whole the team has over passed looking for the perfect play and/or hesitated in the shooting lane. A few players have been a bit unlucky (Virtanen and Perlini esp.).

The shooters on the team have to be ready to shoot because they should know they will he puck in scoring position.

This Swiss team is fantastic, they're nearly impossible to beat.
It's no wonder that Canada had such a hard time winning in a Shootout....

Am I the only one feel like, Canada not playing as physical as they should be?
I mean when you see other teams not being afraid to be little bit chippy, I feel Canada is missing that edge, We just don't have that identity of physically intimidating any more.

Why didn't Canada get to play this goalie yesterday?

damn

Enough with the excuses, boys - altho, I think you are being sarcastic. We have played below our fighting weight all tournament and, if things don't change, we will be going home in the Quarters.

One thing I noticed when watching the other games was how the bounces for the Finns and U.S. seem to be going their way. Like that Kapanen goal went off a skate and top shelf, that Pulijarvi shot bounced off 3 skates right to the Finn behind the Slovak defenders. In the U.S. game a point shot bounces off a skate, Dvoraks blade and 5 hole. And that was in the last 10 minutes.
I guess you have to be good to be lucky and lucky to be good.

I agree - to a certain extent. Again, we have not played well. Having said that, a lucky break or 2 could change our fortunes.

I never expected Strome to outshine Marner by such a large margin, either. He's been extremely good.

Half sacastic, half serious. The boys played horrific yesterday but the goalie would have definitely made some of the goals scored today.

We have nothing to lose tomorrow against Sweden. Win or lose, our path won't change so... things will either click for Canada or they won't.

If the Czechs can somehow beat the Fins tomorrow, that would help. Otherwise, the smart money sees us losing in the Quarters.

Strome and Barzal has definitely outshined Marner. But Marner isn't the cause for worry w. Canada. If Marner takes 1 minute shifts instead of 3 minute shifts he will be fine.

The Defence and Coach is what worries me.

Marners puck skills are undeniable. It's a game very much suited for JR hockey and time will tell if he can translate it to the NHL. He reminds me Sam Gagner when Gagner dominated w. The Knights.

What is questionable about Marner is his desicions when he has the puck. It leads to a lot of Turnovers. His strength is very much too weak for the NHL at the moment. This isn't a dis to him because prospects aren't perfect but this tournament has left me wanting more from Marner rather than being impressed. My 2 cents.

Marner is more like Kane than Gagner. Gagner doesn't have Marner's skating and was never the top guy on his line/team like Marner was, He's also always been pretty bad defensively and while Marner needs to gain weight he still has shown quite a lot of 2 way potential in his game and his skills are certainly suited to the NHL he obviously can't get away with all the stuff he does in juniors but High end hockey IQ,Skating and puck skills usually always translate.

Serious question, is this the softest team Canada we have ever sent?

Hockey Canada can't win. If they send a big team, people complain we left skill at home. If they send skill, the team is soft.

At the end of the day, this team has not gelled nor have they caught any breaks. We will need both or we will be leaving this tournament early.
