Some players may be playing well but i'd hardly call that something thats been 'workin'. The team as a whole hasnt been playing well and havent had the results we expect. Are you really that content to leave things as they are? We barely beat the swiss.

Well, you missed the point completely. Strome and Barzal are playing well and might be building some chemistry with linemates. Strome and Marner already failed, and Barzal/Marner makes no sense as both want the puck. There is no need to lose the modest gains made by Strome and Barzal on their lines just to try to get Marner points. For better or worse it looks like Marner and Point are going to be stuck together.

Not much left to say prior to the Sweden game. I've been unimpressed with some of the comments the players have made since the beginning (one in particular) about their performance. If they can't get it going against Sweden then there isn't much hope for the elimination games.

So it looks like we're destined for third in the group, regardless of what happens against Sweden tomorrow. That would mean we would play the 2nd seed in Group B in the crossover, but what happens after that? Can anyone tell me who we would be in line to play in the semis? Would it be the winner of 1A-4B?

The winner of Canada's game against the second place team in the other group will play the winner of the Sweden/fourth place game.

It probably makes me the odd man out here but I thought many of the players selected were chosen because the game would be on bigger ice and fast skilled players were the way to go. And against powerhouse Denmark those guys did play 2 good periods. But I am not seeing results I expected from the hype generated about these guys. I do not see the playmaking of Reinhart, the speed and skill of Domi or Duclair, or the magic of McDavid. We were spoiled.

The goal should be to win gold and this team as it is, isn't good enough. IMO, getting Marner going is the best chance. I don't agree that Barzal and Marner won't work. They are all creators, but can put the puck into the net. I think they'll make a dynamic line.

This is a completely underwhelming team that is coached badly. The top group of players that Lowry is riding like Secretariat is really weak compared to some of the past teams. People have mentioned he 2013 team as a comparable, I don't think they even measure up to that team either.

Well, the 2013 team was super strong but was plagued by horrific goaltending and abysmal coaching.

As of now we play Czech and winner so Sweden and Finland
USA would play Slovakia and winner of Russia and Denmark

Thats why I can't stand reading comments after tournament games. Like its 3 games of mediocre play and people have completely turned on really, really good prospects.

I agree that there has been too much "what have you done for me lately" attitude and generally there is no need for the pissing contests we are having every wjc, but the wjc does actually say something about the nhl potential of prospects. The squad spends enough time together to find their respective roles on the team. The quality of the squad and their competition is higher than in the chl, so you can look how they adapt to their new roles and whether they build chemistry easily.

The wjc is far more than a couple of games.

Lol @ the Marner hate. He's been very good IMO and is easily one of the top forwards on the team, especially when it comes to sustained pressure.

Game 1: Meh by his standards
Game 2: Excellent
Game 3: Good

Agreed. I'm not a massive fan but there is no denying the kids talent every time he has the puck.

His defensive play is also very solid.

Lots of negative nancies in this thread who are sitting on their couches and boiling with jealousy. It's sad.

The kid is very very talented.

Team Canada/Hockey Canada could have avoided all this if they just had kept with last year's 100 year anniversary jerseys. They brought a level of awesomeness to every team Canada last year. Ditch the Hockey Canada corporate logo on Team Canada jerseys forever, please. Oh..and of course, picked a better coach would have helped. but when Lowry was named I was in favor of the selection since he was a part of last year's team...but I prefer to criticize the coach and not a bunch of teenagers who are undoubtedly giving it their all.

Most of those guys were nineteen year olds too. With another year of experience this team will have several dominant players.

Point hasn't generated enough offense on a consistent basis, as is expected from him, but for the most part has been playing a simple, safe, and effective game. When he isn't generating chances he isn't turning the puck over constantly either.

Lowry is on pace to pass spott

What a disaster this has been

Lowry
Spott

Never to head coach in the nhl

Being a turnover machine more often than not isn't very solid defensive play. I haven't seen anyone criticizing him for not back checking hard and getting in position to cover guys in his own zone, the criticism has mostly been that he has been the reason why he needs to back check far too often. Defensive play doesn't just involve your own end.

It's almost like you made most of that up and haven't watched. Marner has caused far more turnovers than he's had, and had less than Barzal. He's also the kid who back-checked and prevented a sure goal yesterday.

At this point Marner and his constant turnovers are a myth created from a few choice situations that have been repeated and amplified.

Marners puck skills are undeniable. It's a game very much suited for JR hockey and time will tell if he can translate it to the NHL. He reminds me Sam Gagner when Gagner dominated w. The Knights.

What is questionable about Marner is his desicions when he has the puck. It leads to a lot of Turnovers. His strength is very much too weak for the NHL at the moment. This isn't a dis to him because prospects aren't perfect but this tournament has left me wanting more from Marner rather than being impressed. My 2 cents.

Marner will be back in wjc next season. He is just way to small for the nhl and his hockey is not ready for the nhl

There will be many returning players next year. Including crouse

Point is gutting it out. He is fine. Him and Virtanen are obviously playing hurt and its very commendable.

Marner gets a ton of ice time, there would be something wrong if he wasn't generating chances over other people because he's out there ALL THE TIME with offensive zone faceoffs and PP time.

I don't think Marner is a problem. The main problem is the top four defensemen are generating almost nothing offensively.

That's his game though. For how much he handles the puck, turnovers are going to happen statistically. You take the good with the bad. In my opinion, the chances he's generated so far, have far outweighed the number of turnovers (and he still has a lot of room to improve).

Im seeing turnovers from lots of guys. Konecny had a few brutal ones yesterday, so did Barzal. It comes with the style of game they play.

Like I said, the kid is very very talented. He stands out to me almost every time he's on the ice. Definitely deserving of forth overall. I'm not a massive fan of him but i acknowledge his skills and talent. I think he's played very well so far. The points will come for Marner.

The amount of negativity, jealousy and hatred pointed at an eighteen year old kid is very strange.
