Julian Gauthier. Admittedly he is no Shirley though.

I am really doubtful that Dal Colle will get picked. He's having a bad year, and he had a bad summer camp and a completely mediocre super series game. I don't think HC is going to have a huge problem cutting a fifth overall pick in a year when there are many other good forwards available.
Oh my bad. Brain fart. Watched him in the SuperSeries and he had great speed and great size. But he wasn't able to get a point in two games against the Russians so no.

who will be this years Crouse, not many thought he would make the team as an underager last year.

I think the only '98 player who has a chance is Chychrun. Gauthier might make it...but he's a late 97.

I guess Patrick could be the surprise a la Crouse; but he didn't look too good at the Can/Russ series.

EDIT : Full roster prediction

Point - Marner - Watson
Beaullivier - Barzal - Konecy
Crouse - Stome - Chartier
Shirley - Bleackley - Virtanen
Richard

Hicketts - Fleury
Mckeown - Dermott
Van Sompel - Sanheim
Chychurun

Blackwood
Hill
Wells

So Ho-Sang is just too outspoken to play hockey for Team Canada despite being more talented than most of the players listed here - another mistake just like leaving off Domi and Nurse 2 years ago.

Bob McKenzie said that what Hockey Canada didn't like about Ho-Sang at the summer camp was his high risk playing style and that (not alarm clocks or outspokenness) is why he wasn't invited to the super series.

You don't think P-L Dubois has a chance? He's just as good as Svechnikov if not better on the Eagles this year and svech will be playing on russia's first line most likely.

In defense of Dal Colle he's still a talented player. Sam Reinhart and Max Domi were pretty ordinary in league play last year, but when it came to the WJC they really turned it on. I have no doubt Dal Colle is a better player than he was last year, but with the Memorial Cup hangover and being on a rebuilding team there's not much to play for in junior. So even though he's looked bad I wouldn't rule him out entirely. It's still a 19 year old's tournament.

Reinhart and Domi were good in junior last year. If they were mediocre then Dal Colle doesnt even register on the scale.

Honestly, I think Walman can make this team. He's a really really good player, who cares if he wanted to play for the US? His best chance was with them, but if he's good enough to play then I think HC will take him.

However, I feel like he would say no... his best chance to play in future international tournaments likely lies with the US and he realizes that. However, if he decides he wants to play for us this tournament, then I welcome him with open arms.

Domi wasn't ordinary at all prior to WJC. At the time he left for camp, he had put up 57 points in 27 games. It was after he returned from WJC that his play fell off.

Yes I do think Dubois has a shot to at least get an invite. He is playing great this year and his all around game is something Canada will need a the world juniors this year. Don't think he can play the same role as Crouse, but he can play a role like another 17 years old a few years ago, Toews..

So who thinks Fabbri or Virtanen gets released?

What about Nick Ritchie or is he not available since his birthday is the 5th of December?

Probably not. He is playing very well with the two Russians this year though. In a year with fewer forwards playing well he could make it, even as a 17 year old.

It's only a "19 year old's tournament" is Hockey Canada decides to make it so. This year the team should have more 18 year old forwards than 19 year old forwards if they are picking based on merit.

Wow, what a blessing for Canadian hockey if Jake Walman deigns to wear the Canadian jersey.

It all depends on birth year. Anyone born 1996 or later is eligible. Ritchie is too old.

I am doubtful that any of them go, but I think Fabbri has a better chance. St. Louis is getting healthy, the GM is close with Hockey Canada and Fabbri was barely able to contribute last year. Virtanen is in a situation somewhat similar to Horvat's last year, and Horvat did not go. Horvat was playing bigger minutes for Vancouver (akin to what McCann is doing) but Vancouver can also claim that Virtanen has already been there, done that with regard to WJC success.

My immediate response is no. Having said that, it could be I haven't seen enough of Dubois.

It hadn't occurred to me he'd be on the team - but it's not like I'd have a problem being wrong or anything.

I wouldn't welcome him. He already decided to play for the US. I'm pretty patient of players who have dual citizenship and decide to play for the country that suits them best. Having said that, actively deciding to play for one country and then showing up at the other country's camp b/c first country didn't work out tests my limits.

Agreed...the bulk of the available talent at forward is the 1997s. Hopefully Hockey Canada recognizes that.

Ryan Jankowski seems to grasp the idea you should look for the most skilled players...at least going by his media comments. So hopefully that will show in the camp selections.

I get that he made a decision, but if he's good enough to be there don't you want the best players? He's IMO good enough to at least get a shot and potentially make it.

I want the best players drawn from the subgroup of "players who want to represent Canada". A player who makes himself available after USA Hockey loses their appeal to allow him to play for them (which is what he wanted to do) doesn't fall into said subgroup, as far as i'm concerned.

Look, like I said, I'm more patient with these dual citizenship kids than others are...but the way his sudden availability came around leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
