WJC: 2016 — Canada Roster Talk (Part II)

Everybody said that Crouse was too young to make it last year, and he made it. So anybody saying that Shirley isn't going to make it, doesn't mean crap really. I mean, there's a guy on here wanting Brendan Lemieux on this team. A player that isn't on the radar and wasn't invited to the SSS either. So I mean..... really?

I would like to see this, either on a senior or a junior level :nod:

It would be good, for start, seeing a rotation of Russia and USA as the superseries' opponents for CHL.

You're correct. Most people getting a prediction wrong in the past invalidates the opinions of everyone else on completely different topics.

I also like the addition of Shirley twice. Might throw opposition teams off to have a line with Shirley at centre and at wing.

not really, it's possible, but I don't think it would be really funny unless he actually makes the team, which is not gonna happen.

People here aren't making fun because he predicted Shirley to be at the camp, they're making fun because he's the only person who's predicting Shirley to be on the team, and he's insisting on it.

Lemieux being suspended at the time was probably a factor in his not being invited, if it didn't outright disqualify him from being in the SSS.

Shirely can play both the starter and backup roles on this team. He's that good!
 
I'm gonna admit my naivety in this scenario. Can someone please explain who this Shirley player is and what he's done to garner so much attention in this discussion? I don't know much about him.

Shirley had five points in the super series with team WHL. Some people put a lot of stock in that.

Collin Shirley. a winger in the WHL of very little distinction who has absolutely no business being anywhere near Team Canada at an elite level tournament and whose only experience with Hockey Canada at any point (before this year's WHL v Russia games) was a U17 tournament 2012-13 Canada West. He did attend a summer Hlinka camp but was cut. If he's invited to December camp I'd be shocked. If he makes the team, then I'm giving up watching the junior tournament forever.

But, he's a legend. ))) And the legend grows.

Shirley is easily more skilled than Marner. He's going to dominate in the WJC.

Marcus Stroman and Josh Donaldson are wayyyy better than Shirley though. I mean, as dominant as Shirley is, I still see Stroman and Donaldon dominating at the WJC. They're pretty much locks at this point.

I was thinking more along the lines of this

Osuna - Stroman - Donaldson
Brady Gilmour - Lemieux - Burgess
Bautista - McCann - Virtanen
Dal Cole - Merkley - Patrick
Ho-Sang
