That's Hockey did a segment tonight on WJC. Here's the link: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/will-fabbri-virtanen-mccann-play-for-team-canada~758396

It seems to be up in the air a bit about whether the TSN videos can be accessed outside Canada...so in case anyone has geoblock issues with the video i did a brief write up on what was said:

- mdavid, bennett, ekblad are obviously a write off for team canada roster-wise
- if Van & StL had to make a decision *right now* none of Fabbri, McCann, Virtanen would be there;
- good chance Nylander won't be there. Kapanen might not be there either.
- Crouse, Barzal, and Beauvillier are going to be heavily counted on
- Konecny will be expected to produce a lot offensively
- Strome, Marner will be heavily counted on
- Point is penciled in as 1C (although he's injured right now)
- defense - dominated by 19 year olds. Hicketts, Sandheim, Fleury will be core guys

Wait! What? No Shirley? fools. what kind of crap show they runnin over there at HC HQ?

And I get a kick out of Farmer Bob trying to convince people that Canada missing its 6 NHLers, the U.S. missing 3 and 1 each for Sweden and Finland is pretty much a wash. a Team Canada with all its eligible players probably would rank up there in the TOP 3 junior teams in the history of that event, with a good shot at the title. And if the U.S. had all it's eligible players, it would perhaps be the best U.S. team in the history of the event.

Why don't we just play a best of 7 with the Yanks...when will HC and USAH get off their butts and make this happen.

And I believe both Nylander and Kapanen will get released.

TSN is in the business of promoting the WJC, the talking heads are not going to say that Canada is disadvantaged unless Canada loses.

All that they said is perfectly reasonable otherwise. Point, Crouse, Barzal, Beauvillier, Marner Strome, Konecny do have to be the guys up front. Add Shirley, and then all of the other players are guys who compliment the main guys or can play a specific role. Hicketts, Sanheim and Fleury will all be there, and hopefully with competend compliments.

I'm really curious about Fabbri. He hasn't produced all that much thus far for St. Louis, Stastny is healthy now and Armstrong is close with Hockey Canada. It seems reasonable that he could be loaned. McCann is playing too well to be loaned. While it does seem reasonable to loan Virtanen, given that he isn't in a big role in Vancouver, I am not expecting it. Vancouver didn't loan Horvat last year when he was in a somewhat similar situation (his role was bigger than Virtanen's now, I know) and I believe they implied that he didn't really want to go again, having already had a WJC experience. Considering Virtanen had a positive experience already and has a teammate who last year may have turned down the very same opportunity, I doubt that he would tell Vancouver that he wants to go. Just speculation.

One player who may get an invite to camp and surprise people to make the roster is Brendan Lemieux from Barrie. He scored 40+ goals last year and recently returned to Barrie and has 9 points in 8 games.

That would be pretty surprising since he wasn't invited to the summer camp and certainly isn't having a banner season thus far.

The nhl ruins Hockey by offering a stale product. And now it's ruining this tournament by keeping these players that make no difference in their teams whatsoever.

I'm sure the likes of Bo Horvat, Jonathan Drouin, last year and the countless before really helped their teams in the 10 games they missed.

There should be a clause where unless your a star, you are loaned to this tournament. It's a joke Nylander has to waste time playing in front of 140 americans in the crowd with useless ahl games, instead of the millions that will watch the biggest event in the Hockey calendar until May.

Perron, is making a real case for himself, his speed would also be an asset.

I hope that he at least gets an invite to the camp. I'm not expecting it though.

I hope he doesn't even get invited. Chose USA, deal with it.

Agreed. He's a Canadian player who chose to try and represent USA on a technicality. I'm glad that the IIHF's rules (which aren't strong enough) prevented him from following through. McKenzie says that Walman will probably be invited to camp, which I find highly idiotic of Hockey Canada. If he thinks so little of playing for Canada, then he shouldn't.

At the very worst at least the US will not have him, he was a lock on their defence. Their defence now will become even more suspect going into this tournament. I agree I hope he is not on the team however even if they invite him to camp I think he will be in tough to grab a spot in less he is over the top amazing. Canada has a few guys that are essentially guaranteed to make this team on defence like Hicketts, Sanheim, and Fleury. From there he would have to surpass the likes of guys like Chabot, Dunn, Chychrun, Dermott, Roy, McKeown and Juulsen...which will be hard to do.

Shirley? I hope this is a joke. There is like 100 better players than Shirley. Maybe you are Shirley?

Now now that might be true. He had a huge 2 games for Team WHL vs the Russians and has 15 goals in his last 15 games in a tough league to score in. I could see him being invited to the camp, but not necessarily make the team. Add to that he's a big boy as well who can skate.

I'm glad that USA cannot take another Canadian player, but certainly wouldn't want him on Canada either. I have no idea if he is good enough to play on Canada, but he at the very least has numbers.

Interesting to see McKenzie say that there will be 10-11 defencemen at the camp. A little bit bigger than the camp last year, would be nice if it was bigger though.

Konecny is one of the best skaters in junior hockey, I can see him being dangerous on the big ice. He is playing well this year, he will be interesting to watch as one that can really excel for Team Canada when selections are made.

Also want to see Crouse with a bigger role this year. He will be the only returning 17 year old from last year on the team. One year's experience is invaluable.

Looking fwd to seeing him play with a Top Center for a change. Strome, Barzal ect...
