How long will it take the ohl to announce the suspension length? It is sounding as though it's going to be something around 5 games which means he'll be fine for the tournament.

Jake Walman left the game vs Merrimack early in the 3rd. Did not return to finish the game.

Could be injured for camp possibly?

Hawryluk took a shot from a teammate last night and left the game. Not playing tonight.

Any chance that one of Nick Merkley or Rourke Chartier crack this roster? Seen they were invited.

Played great in the WHL playoffs and during the Memorial Cup earlier this year.

Merkley could play a Gallagher/Marchand role, while Chartier reminds me more of Pulkkinen with a nose for the net with clutch goals. Has the injury hurt his chance? Think he could be a darkhorse as a game-breaker.

Anyone that watches them think they could have an impact if they make the squad?

Looks like Walman is done for the tournament:

Do they invite someone else or go with the candidates they already got?

yeah, the forwards are pretty wide open with maybe 5 locks at most (Barzal, Crouse, Marner, Point and Strome)

I don't wish him any physical ill will, but I'm certainly glad he won't be on the team. Now playing for Canada won't get in the way of Walman's goal of representing the country he's spent nearly two years in.

funny. on a much more important note. any news on Blackwood's suspension?

That analyse by Bob Mckenzie look to me very "OHL/Ontario" especially when talking about players fighting for a spot. About the forwards, he only talked about 4 players from the OHL (Dal Colle, Perlini, Stephens and Watson). And about the defense, he talked a little bit of the only 2 RH shot we have (McKeown and Juulsen) and of course about the Toronto native Walman.

Is that analyse was for all people living in Canada or just for Ontario? :dunno:

Isn't the Walman story interesting
Would he have the nerve to ever try out for USA again?
Dal Colle continues to play himself off
He was minus three last night with two assists
Is Perlini injured?
Didn't see him play Friday

I just hope they take players that are hot at that includes Merkly
Mackenzie and Button know what we have this year and they aren't playing this team too much
They are leaving room to say things like the team lacks big time experience and grit
Wait and see

Karma's a *****, kid. Ain't it? Next time know what country you represent.

Walmam is only acting in his narrow self-interest. Hockey Canada shouldn't have named him to the December camp roster in the first place...any controversy that would have arisen over this situation would rest squarely on their shoulders, not Walman's. They should have looked past him. Its a moot point now anyway.

Fingers crossed we don't see anymore names on here regarding injuries. First Blackwood (suspension) and then Walman and maybe Hawryluk. Man oh man we can't afford to miss any other players.

I really don't understand why people get so worked up over this. His mother is an American, and maybe he is just closer to her side of the family. Once he made the decision last summer but was denied by IIHF, he should have just informed Hockey Canada that he was going to stick it out with the U.S., or, as you say, HC should have made the decision for him, but whatever, we have more pressing issues to worry about in our game.

Dubois is the only forward who would be a surprise to me. He's good enough and I like his game, but it would be a surprise in the same way Crouse was.

Something interesting with regard to a player like Merkley is that he is one of several playmaking wingers that Canada will be choosing from. Canada generally has playmakers at centre and goal scorers on the wing, so it's interesting to see players like Marner (presumably a wing this tournament) Beauvillier, Konecny and Merkley being strongly considered in some cases. The presumed top three centres (Point, Barzal, Strome) are all strong playmakers as well, so it will be interesting to see how things fit. A player like Merkley would be a great fit on some editions of team Canada (like 2014) but I don't know that his skillset is all that useful with many forwards already doing most of the same things (minus the agitating). My guess is that a player like Gauthier, who is similar to Merkley in terms of ability, had a big advantage because he is one of the few goal scorers at the camp.

Crouse Point Marner
Beauvillier Barzal Gauthier
Watson Strome Konecny
?????? (Stephens) (Hawryluk)
???????

My guess is that nine spots are gone already. Hockey Canada likes Stephens, so he probably has a good chance despite his injury. Hawryluk has looked good in the evaluation exercises thus far and is having a good year, so if he's healthy I think he's a very strong candidate. Last two spots will depend on who performs in the camp, with some players (Dal Colle, Perlini) probably getting the benefit of the doubt.

Farmer Brown your lines look exactly like mine. You've moved one or two players to the opposite wing. I had Gauthier on the right wing and Beaullivier centering his line and now you've done the same. I mean I know I've put together a good team based on the players weve been given but geese, live a little. But I guess you are living a little by potentially having Stephens knock off a returning player like Chartier

Any chance Hockey Canada (and Lowry) see Chartier and Merkley as a package deal? We know how HC feels about pre-existing chemistry but that thought process hasn't been as prevalent at the junior level. They play well together and could presumably fill 2/3 of a third or fourth line for us. Chartier was one of our final cuts last year and both guys performed very well in going to the Mem Cup last year. Merkley especially is a great skater and both could play in a quasi-defensive role if necessary.

Point - Barzal - Marner
Watson - Beaullivier - Gauthier
Crouse - Strome - Konecy
Hawryluk - Chartier - Merkley
Perlini

Dermott - Hicketts
Fleury - Mckeowan
Sanheim - Juulsen
Chychrun

Blackwood
McDonald

What? My roster is almost the same as what I've been posting for a while, I do have Gauthier on the right wing, I don't have Beauvillier as a centre, and Chartier is not a returning player.

It's possible, but I assume that McKenzie or Button would have mentioned that chemistry if Hockey Canada was seriously factoring it into its decision. Quenneville and Hawryluk are in basically the same spot (WHL linesmates and fourth line candidates) but it hasn't been mentioned for either. I haven't noticed HC looking for league chemistry at the junior level since the failure in 2010 with Hall - Henrique - Nemisz. 5+ years ago, when Canada always wanted a pest type on one of the bottom six lines, I suspect Merkley would have had a better chance. If I was picking the team he would be a contender for 13th forward, along with Dubois. My guess is that he will be one of the last cuts for HC, with them keeping Dal Colle/Perlini.

Are you putting up the same lineup every time or are you putting different lines every day. You've had at least 5 different lineups in this thread already.

Pretty sure Merkley makes the team as the 13th forward. He brings so much to the ice. This kid can skate, pass like a centre and can play any role. His showing at the Memorial Cup was great. An injury at the Yotes camp slowed his start to this year.
Chartier missed a lot of games with his injury and returned to turn the trick in his 1st game back. I think he missed too many games to be be playing at this high a tempo and be effective.
