What? This is not true at all. Chabot has had an absolutely outstanding season so far.

I have a sneaking suspicion you are a Sens fan. Dermott has been also great, IMO better than Chabot but not by a large enough gap to not be able to have a solid argument for Chabot.

IMO you can't really go wrong with any of the defensemen Canada has invited to camp, they are all very good skaters, good puck movers, and good two-way defensemen. As a group Canada has the best defensive corps in the tournament. The Canadian GM group must just be laughing at the decisions that were made for the USA squad. USA had the opportunity to be just as deep as Canada skill-wise up front however they cut many of their most skilled players...

I am a Sens' fan. But I try not to let that bias my opinions. Chabot has put up similar numbers on a worse offensive team, leads his team in plus/minus, is bigger, and is a better skater than Dermott.

The Otters have 4 players over a ppg this season, and 1 player over 2 ppg. In comparison, the Sea Dogs have 0.

Hey Canadians, what's the situation for Jake Virtanen.
Some random Finnish hockey fan ( not me) rumored, in jatkoaika com ( Finnish Hockey board) that Vancouver Canucks wont release Jake for U20 WJC's
Is that really true?.

Jake's father is from Finland, and even i wanna see him on the ice in Helsinki.
And how's that Mackenzie Blackwood's slashing, he probably gets suspended for that.

So does that suspension, affected his participating for world juniors?
Also i wanna apologize, when i'm been too offensive for my comments in here.

I don't wanna insult any of you guys.
I'm always respected for Team Canada, and i wanna wish all the best for your team in world juniors.

Let's play good and exciting U20 WJC hockey in Helsinki.
Welcome to Finland team Canada, your team will get my support if Finland loss in quarterfinals.

Regardless if the Canucks release him or not, he has a hip pointer that will most likely keep him out until after the tournament.

Hockey Canada probably won't know for a bit about Virtanen. As of now I would say he probably will not get released, but there is still a chance. As for Blackwood, the suspension length has not been determined yet, if it is less than 6 games this would not affect him participating the tournament.

And? Have you watched Dermott play to say definitely Chabot has been better? Dermott was recently named OHL dman of the month, and from all accounts, looks like one of if not the best overall dman in that league

I'm sure Canada will pick Chabot if they think he's the best dman, but let's not pretend Dermott hasn't been fantastic for the #1 ranked Otters

Does anybody know when the Blackwood suspension will be announced? How long does it usually take for the OHL to make these decisions?

I don't know why people get so defensive...where did I "pretend" that Dermott isn't a great number 1 dman in the OHL? I'll give you a hint: I didn't. I simply think Chabot is the better player.

And for the record, I'm extremely jealous of where the Leafs snagged Dermott.

Of course if / when Jake has, some injury it's better to focused for recovering.
You guys have so many candidates, for your team.

And Canada's tournament wont fall that, if / when Jake Virtanen can't play for world juniors.
By the way how's McDavid, would he get released for Edmonton if he had not injured in October.

Do you really want him playing so Canada can win every game by 5 goals and with him averaging 5 points per game? I think Edmonton would only release him if he's allowed by to play with one hand on his stick so he's tested and develops his strength.

I fail to see how you guys are stronger than Sweden, Finland and Russia.

And keep in mind, this is big ice in Europe.

Canada showed in past men's world championships, that they can dominate the game.
No matter for that, how big rink and ice will be.

That how Canada destroyed Russia, in IIHF's 2015 men's world championships gold medal game.
Was something really beautiful and that kind domination no-one hasn't seen since 1970's and 1980's, when soviet union dominated international hockey.

If you bases your Opinion that, how Canada played for 2014 U20 WJC's in Malmö.
That wont matter, or count anymore. It was nearly 2 yrs ago so let it be.

It's not about being defensive. It's about recognizing the value in each player. For all we know, they both could make the team. I've watch a few of Dermott's games in Erie. For a few games after he came back from Leafs training camp, he was underwhelming and looked off, so I was very critical of him to start the season. But in November, he looked very very good.

And the fact that not only Hunter, but Jankowski described him as a player who can raise his level of play in big games, it makes me think we can't afford to leave this guy at home.

As for Chabot, I haven't watched him play so I can't be certain of his game, but if he can add an element to our team that no one else can that can get us closer to the gold medal, then I want him too.

Not being defensive at all, but there are good reasons why Dermott would be considered a lock if what McKenzie said is true. He's a fantastic overall dman, and the best dman on the best team in the OHL.

If HC think Chabot is better, then he will surely make the team as well. No need to question 1 prospect just to justify your team's prospect

Fleury-Juulsen
Sanheim-Hicketts
Dermott-McKeown

Chabot/Hickey

Cut:Walman-Chychrun- Chabot/Hickey

Bob McKenzie saying he's a lock, and I would guess he has sources to be that confident.

Let's be clear, he didn't say Dermott was a lock. Basically, Dermott was on a list with the title saying Locks & Leading Contenders

So by no means is he a lock, but he probably has better chance of making it because he'll be 19 during the tournament. McKenzie made a point of pointing out Team Canada prefers 19 year olds. Chabot will turn 19 after the tournament which probably didn't factored into McKenzie's example.

So Dermott can have a bad camp and still make the team?

No. If he has a bad camp, I don't want him on the team. Players on the team need to be able to step up when it counts.

Lol please just take a look at the rosters. They have the best defence in the tournament and their offence is at worst on par with Sweden and Finland. Russia is below those three teams but Samsonov could steal them games.

USA's camp roster looks pretty weak IMO. We should be favourites now.

Canada was always going to have a better roster than the United States, even before the recent odd American decisions. Forwards roughly even, Canada with clearly better defence and goaltending. I commend TSN on continuing to hype USA as the favourite before these tournaments though.

That's good, considering Canada has been by far the most successful country on the large ice since it started sending legitimate teams in 1982.
