Wow, that could really hurt Canada's chances. What a dumb move on his part.

I mean he'll miss 2 round robin games. Hardly will hurt our chances. He'll get game 3 and then whoever played best will get the medal round.

That takes him out of 2 games(according to Bob McKenzie), do they even take him at this point? He's allowed to play pre-tournament games but not even being allowed to backup for 2 games they need to take another goalie, any chance they just leave Blackwood home altogether or are we gonna take 3 goalies now?

Blackwood is permitted to play in WJC pre-tournament games. Cannot be on roster for 1st two Team CAN games at WJC.

Take 3 goalies and leave the grinders home.

I believe OHL rationale for 8 game suspension is because if it were 6, Blackwood would only miss Barrie games he was going to miss anyway.

In real terms, Blackwood's suspension is actually two games, albeit two games at the WJC. Discuss amongst yourselves.

dumb reasoning, if 6 games is essentially no punishment, it's still 6 games, if someone does something really stupid and suspension worthy and gets hurt on the play do you suddenly add 2 games onto whenever he is healthy? No, if it's 8 games worthy then give him 8 games, but don't give him 8 games for something you thought was worth 2 games because hey he was gonna miss the first 6 anyway.

So it's an eight-game suspension that really isn't an eight-game suspension. He gets "suspended' for 6 OHL games he wouldn't play anyway because he'd be at the world junior camp. Makes sense. :naughty:

I really don't think this will end up being a huge deal...looks like they will take a 3rd goalie. The real only big game he will miss is against USA and it wasn't even certain who would be playing that game anyways.

The purpose of a suspension is to make the person serve a penalty and think about their actions. There is zero point to suspending a player if they aren't going to feel any consequences. As much as it sucks for Hockey Canada and us fans, I understand and support the 8 games.

So if someone say broke his leg on a hit and then took a baseball swing at the guy who hit him in retaliation you don't think a 5 game suspension is fair? There are no consequences, he's hurt anyway, just as well to wait until he's healthy to play again and then suspend him 5 games.

I totally get why they did it, it makes sense, I just think altering suspension numbers based on the timing of the incident and the scenarios happing with the player afterwards is dumb.

Suspensions should count for pre-tournament games, that way he could be suspended a proper number of games and miss the pre-tournament(and not some x number he misses anyway +2), and thus likely losing the starters role on the team, that would be fair punishment.

This is most certainly a big deal as our Boxing Day game is against the USA this year. I'm sure Blackwood and Hockey Canada will have a long chat about temper control, especially with the tournament overseas this year.

I still think Blackwood makes the team, they brought Griffin Reinhart even though he was suspended a few years back. They'll bring over a 3rd goalie (Carter Hart, I hope) and go from there. McDonald gets 2 games, Blackwood gets the 3rd and they make a decision from there.

Well considering they have to dress a backup for the first two round robin games, a 3rd goalie will definitely be brought in.

Really, I on the other hand don't even think it needs to be brought up by HC, given his history and his personality. This is a one time incident that he will learn from and move forward.
