I would be so upset with HC if that happened. They have to bring in a 3rd goalie. Absolutely have to.

Since they're clearly going to ride either McDonald or Blackwood, I would rather just take someone like Hart that could get some experience for the future. As for Blackwood, they have to take him. If he's the best goaltender then he's the best goaltender and missing two games won't change that.

Play McDonald in the first two games, vs USA and Denmark. Then play Blackwood against Switzerland and presuming he's OK play him again against Sweden. Go with the better performer in the quarterfinals.

So if someone say broke his leg on a hit and then took a baseball swing at the guy who hit him in retaliation you don't think a 5 game suspension is fair? There are no consequences, he's hurt anyway, just as well to wait until he's healthy to play again and then suspend him 5 games.

I totally get why they did it, it makes sense, I just think altering suspension numbers based on the timing of the incident and the scenarios happing with the player afterwards is dumb.

Suspensions should count for pre-tournament games, that way he could be suspended a proper number of games and miss the pre-tournament(and not some x number he misses anyway +2), and thus likely losing the starters role on the team, that would be fair punishment.
This is only a guess (although I realize you don't agree) but I'd imagine the OHL gave him the extra 2 games because of a similar case with Lawson Crouse. Crouse was given an 8 game suspension in last season's OHL playoffs which he was to begin serving at the start of this season. However, he started this season by attending the Florida Panthers' training camp while missing the games with the Frontenacs. After they played their 8 games, he was sent back to Kingston. In his case (and as with Blackwood's if he had got 6 games instead), there would be no downside for the player to miss the OHL games since he had a better opportunity elsewhere anyway and got credit for the games missed. It's like the player getting a win/win situation and I'm guessing that the OHL looked back on Crouse's situation and wanted to prevent it from happening again.

Leave Hart in the WHL where he belongs. You think 6 shots a practice is good for his development?

Hart has ample opportunity to play WHL games this year and the next two. I'd much rather him get some experience attending the World Juniors that could prove helpful as soon as next year.

Virtanen sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint, maybe the will extend that to an AHL/WJC conditioning stint, here's hoping

To me it just feels like, since there is no U19 tournament 18 year olds are already in their proper age group tournament, as it being a 2 year age gap.

I get that they're a year younger, and 19 year olds are favoured and the 18 year olds can come back next year, but I've always heard the 17 year olds as being the under agers because they're still eligible for a tournament below the U20's being the U18 level, and they have to wear the full cage.

Just what I've been familier with.

Thats always how I looked at it. Do the other countries have enough depth to put out good rosters with just '96 born players? Sweden is one.

Jeremy Lauzon is another lefty D. He's having a very good season so far with Rouyn-Noranda. I think Jeremy Roy is injured right now so that would explain that decision.

Lauzon is the better player, that's the reason for the decision.

Roy is not a guy you want on international ice.

There's nothing to experience as a 3rd string goalie. He won't get any game time and he won't receive any decent amount of shots in practice. Other then two games he gets to sit in the press box. I'm sure he'd like to be there however it's honestly best for him to keep being a starter in the WHL. Next year will be his year.

Roy is right now injured, so we will probably never know what would have been the decision by HC. But with the lack of RH shot from the back end, Roy would have been a good candidate for sure.

Sherbrooke, without Roy in their line-up are 1-10-1. When he's in : 11-5-4. Just saying.

Montembeault was terrible in the Q series and the summer camp compared to Blackwood and McDonald. Oh well, hopefully it doesn't affect us too much.

I doubt he will play...on another note hopefully Jake Virtanen is now loaned after being sent to the ahl....

There's a lot to experience. It's called Life Experience which helps with the maturation process. It all helps. And remember, we are not just developing hockey players here. And if all you think that goes into the development of a hockey player/goaltender is 450 shots over a 10 game period in a junior league at 17 years old, then I'd suggest you put a little more thought into it.

I'm surprised it's so long. I thought for sure he'd get some softball suspension so he could play.

What's HC going to do now? Just hope MacDonald doesn't get injured during the round robin?

I guess Hockey Canada receives no benefit for acting as the recruitment arm for the CHL.

I think MacDonald is the better tender anyway...so call in a 3rd to backup for 2 and then all goes back to normal, MacDonald and Blackwood can duel it out for the starters job.

Irrelevant now since he wasn't picked, but getting exposed to the tournament (ie the pressure the other goaltenders face, the routine etc.) could bode well for Hart if he plays in future tournaments. 10 WHL games or so isn't an overly significant loss, but again it doesn't matter at this point.

What are we thinking the odds are on Virtanen? Seems like a rather convenient time to be sent down...

Could be... though if Vancouver wanted him at the WJC, they could just have him sit out a bit more to recover from his injury before sending him to camp. I'm not sure that it's a good sign.

MacDonald is the better tender in what way?
