Can't wait for the TBN columns after every loss. "What more do you expect from a team coached by a guy who doesn't really want to be here in the first place. Someone should be held accountable and Tim Murray certainly isn't going to speak up!".

But seriously, even if we don't get him, it gives us that much more of an opening for a Blashill or Richardson, should we choose to go for the "new blood" approach

It's nice to have an owner that honestly doesn't give a **** about what everyone else thinks of him. The man basically makes a target on who to hire and writes a blank check. It's nice to be in the discussion for the best names available. Not only would this hiring be the bow on top of this re-build, but it instantly gives us credibility for any FA signings or the idea of waiving a NTC. I really hope he comes here.

Someone used the word "embarrassing"? I don't think any amount of money to secure the best coach in the league (by a large margin) is embarrassing...

Get it done.

$50 million would be embarrassing...

Just wait until some of the reactions from other GMs and owners around the league start trickling through the media.

Who would have ever thought the Sabres would be owned by someone that money is no object to? :handclap:

It's nothing more than the benefits of having a wealthy and interested owner. A quality organization is just that from the top, down

50M sounds like they asked Mike for his price, Mike bit his lip nervously, spat out a number, burst into a fit of nervous laughter to defuse the tension, passed out, woke up being fanned by Kim pegula, wearing a sabres cap that he didn't have a moment ago, and the first thing he hears is Terry saying, "of course, michael."

LeBrun's article/update:
Babcock declined to elaborate any further, saying that's all he had to say until his decision was made Wednesday.

A Sabres source told ESPN.com that Babcock spoke again briefly with Buffalo on Tuesday morning and also exchanged emails with general manager Tim Murray about the team's second offer to him.

The source said the Sabres made a second contract offer to Babcock over the past weekend.

If Babcock takes the job in Buffalo, the Sabres just did themselves a solid in terms of increasing their ability to bring in free agents. Wow.

So the news breaks over the weekend that Babcock is talking to St. Louis and San Jose on Monday. Then 1 day later Babcock himself says they were just courtesy calls. Then it gets mentioned that Buffalo made a 2nd better contract offer over the same weekend. Very sneaky Babs, very sneaky.

If his wife and family really wants to stay in Detroit. It's very possible he turns it down. Though it would be incredibly hard to do.

With 50 mil I'd just buy a new wife & family that wants to live in Buffalo.
:sarcasm:

I just feel like it'd be absolutely insane. If he turns it down because his wife didn't want to leave Detroit... His wife would be the craziest person in sports.

Lol...three years away from a good on-ice roster maybe. Not three years away from a good program, that's already in place, but I get a hometown guy being critical for the sake of it.

Redmond is one of the worst homers out there you'll find on the airwaves - Ken Daniels is tolerable as their PxP guy but Redmond praises the Wings for every thing they do well and blames them for anything they don't; the other team is never a factor in how well or poor the Wings play.

Isn't his GM cut from the same cloth? Murray seems to care little of what the media portray of him.

It's how Mike Ilitch built up Detroit into the best franchise in the NHL. I like Pegula. He has his passions, fortunately one of which is hockey. :)

The past few weeks saw a lot of message boards debate which owner was richer but maybe in the end, the ability to drill a few more gas wells meant more than the ability to sell a few more pizzas.

The cash they dropped on Leino looked desperate. This just looks confident.

It makes sense. You have arguably the most important development season ever in the Sabres history which could have a franchise altering effect moving forward. Why not spend what you need to in order to ensure that the best available leadership is in charge.

dear god that's Ville Leino money!

(i/e who cares, this guy is more important to your future than any crappy UFA you'd give the same money to)

Well put. We need the right guy for the job, and it shouldn't matter to anyone but him and the organization what he's being paid if he's the right guy. It doesn't matter if we have the nicest, shiniest, highest performance bus in the league if the guy we hire to drive it doesn't know what he's doing.

Wish we did land Doan... could have enjoyed the last 4 months of the season after we wrapped up last place in December.

Re: family considerations, I don't see much of a difference, if any, between Northville and say Clarence. It's only the change itself and leaving friends that's the real consideration IMO. The missus definitely needs to be on board since Babcock's travelling as the team travels.
